In November 2016 this area was devastated by the worst forest fires in over 100 years that did estimated 5 million dollars worth of damage and hundreds left homeless this is a short video just showing the true devastation that accured here. I personally was not immediately affected by the fires but I am good friend with people who were and eveything is replaceable and rebuildable we are positive and we are #mountaintough through everything that has happened we will continue to move forward and rebuild!

My family and i were staying in our vacation cabin in Cobbly Knob for the holidays. That Monday we left at 430 pm for Sevierville due to the smoke. Our cabin burnt down and i am so blessed that myself, my son and his family we are with me. I still hurt for the neighbors who lost all.

My wife and I stayed at the Tree Tops Resort in Gatlinburg Tennessee this past week. It's so disheartening to see the devastation that happened 6 months ago. It's one thing to see it on a video and totally different to see it in person.

We were there last Christmas. You can still see where some houses used to be and burned areas. Sad.

so very sad to see and to see the places like Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge all with alot if not totally destroyed is heartbreaking.Your video is nice and only shows some of the damage.Still my heart breaks for those that lost everything and even family members.God Bless this beautiful place and even though they will slowly rebuild, still it doesn't bring the loved ones lost back or the keepsakes and heirlooms that the people lost that can't be replaced, they will always have their memories.

My son took up donations and used his Simi and trailer and brought down 2 Simi loads down to Gatlinburg just after the fire from his home in southern Illinois.

The one responsible for that fire needs to spend the rest of theire life in prison without ever getting out there was things burnt up that can never be replaced its not the cost of how much burnt but the houses and other things that burnt up and burnt down they need to spend the rest of theire life in prison and watch a tape of the fire every day to think about what they done if i had been there i would have chained them up and let them burn up in the fire while the people that lost theire homes and buisness whatched then you could say justice was served tax payers shouldnt be resposisble for keeping them alive thinhs will never be the same because of that fire

This video is a grim admonishment to everyone who owns property near wilderness. As a firefighter, we are limited by numerous factors. A property surrounded by brush is nearly impossible to defend against fires at speed. Visit firewise.org to learn how to safeguard your home.

Very sorry to hear that. I just love it there and it is such a shame. I hope you can rebuild. At least you are still here. I'm from Indiana but was there a month ago and accidentally drove through the damage path. I was shocked. It's a wonder more people didn't make it out. Good luck to you.
