@@tavar16he’s definitely the best of the bunch, but he’s not a decent person. His character clearly has some sort of saviour complex, and he’s someone who gets off on trying to fix those worse off than him. Oliver clearly wasn’t the first he’d brought to Saltburn and the entire family have this weird saviour complex that we see in other characters like Pamela. Incredible story telling in that Felix is so charming we also don’t think much of it!
@@summer__444 Well, the other friend Felix brought was a childhood friend, so presumably from a fellow wealthy family - and the way he explains what happened to that friendship is pretty different than the impression Venetia and Farleigh gave.
They made it sound like Felix simply grew tired of the friend, while Felix said the friendship fell apart because the friend started hooking up with Venetia - which is, imo, an understandable reason to get upset with a friend whom YOU invited home as your friend.
I’m not saying Felix was a great person, and you’re right that a big part of why he was drawn to Oliver was because he thought Ollie needed “saving,” but I really don’t think that’s what his aforementioned previous summer friendship was about.
Also, I personally think his savior complex was motivated by genuinely wanting to connect to and help the less fortunate, but that his good intentions were sullied by the potentially unbridgeable gap of the sheer magnitude of how out-if-touch his upbringing made him. In other words, out of the whole Catten family, Felix seemed to be most kindhearted and generous, and the least dazzled by wealth and status, yet he couldn’t quite escape the 20+ years of marinating in high society culture.
What made Venetia a horrible person? I found her to be tragic
ewan is such an interesting character because for every press tour he just becomes his character, like we never see the real ewan and it’s just fascinating 😭

I got to the bath scene and went ‘what on earth am I watching’ and kept going and during the final scene where Elspeth was in the hospital bed I thought for minute “Oliver better not eat her out” and to my delight he didn’t

Same! Their chemistry is excellent (of course Pike and Carey have been friends for over a decade) so yeah, why not a prequel of Elspeth and Poor Dear Pamela instead? I'd love that, I just wish there was more time between Pike and Carey as their characters

Not wrong though, Rosamund Pike was absolutely the best part of the movie. She looked like she was having the time of her life being on the set. We absolutely need a movie with her character..

I love how expressive Barry was in the film. Just certain expressions or pauses would give me chills or make me smile. And the movie transformed his appearance a lot which was very intriguing.

It's so sweet seeing Carey Mulligan talk a little bit about her relationship with Rosamund Pike after reading the tweet as this movie is their third collaboration after Pride & Prejudice and An Education. I hope they work together more in the future. Maybe in another Emerald Fennell movie? Why not? They seemed like an excellent combo ❤️

Saltburn was my favorite movie this year. I could watch it again and again. It is so nuanced and frantic, one viewing is simply not enough to digest the smart and sassy dialogue, facial gestures and incredible acting by all involved

It took me back to a different time in movies before every movie had a person who could fly or was part of a franchise.
Barry Keoghan's slow burn presents was amazing. The building of his insidious design to be part of Saltburn plays out magnificently! A+++

I have watched this movie 5 times now I think. it is something so different and refreshing and just absolutely insanity that had me in awe at so many moments when they just kept going but I love it and it's going to be tough to find another movie that hits you just right like this one does. I'm currently binge watching every Barry Keoghan movie because Saltburn wasn't long enough!
I know my baby Jacob was busy filming movie after movie when they recorded this. He was missed, and this movie has not left my brain since I watched it. They took the saying of "Loving so much I'd drink your bath water" to a new level. I mean what! Iconic.
Need this film to sweep during award season it was just that good i love when you go into a movie and come out of it surprised and unexpecting of what happens especially in this day and age where trailers basically give way to much of the movie to feel like your just rewatching it during your initial watch movie left such a mark on me that the antics of it all havent left my brain once the edits and actors ate this one down to the bone!
i wish it would! the trailer was so ominous with just enough information to entice me. i actually went into the movie thinking felix would be the killer so that was fun to have my assumption flipped upside down at the end.

Love the grave scene . After seeing Saltburn ,mi went back and rewatched ‘Summer of 85’ ..love their grave scenes as well. Glad they have broken the ‘taboo’ of desecrating the grave in romantic ways

Just saw this movie. I haven’t been really challenged like this in years. The squirm factor was delightfully outrageous and the cast was superb. Went in as a Barry fan, came out as a super fan, but also my God the rest of the younglings! Jacob, Archie (beautiful US accent, btw), Sadie and Ewan I now have to follow forever. And as a boomer, love Rosamund, Richard E and Carrie already. Need another viewing STAT.
Sadie Soverall was also outstanding in the short-lived TV series 'Fate: The Winx Saga'. She played a whipsmart, very sassy 'bad girl' with a good heart buried underneath. 🙂
I watched over a 2 midnight screening. It was magnificent. Just a brilliant film. I stopped just before the maze.

Duncan the butler and old friends and family members returning to Saltburn, and Oliver thinking he can take control of them and it not being a worry with his new group of sociopaths he constantly has around, forcing him to eventually pile up bodies within the estate due to everything he worked for falling apart

It was actually tame 😭. I got traumatized by "Strangers from hell" recently. I was numb. The menstruation scene had me shook. And the bath tub was nasty😂

I used to think that reading these comments by the actors would be aggravating to them, having probably tired of hearing so much positive remarks from people around the world, but. ..
I've come to realize now, after hearing different podcasts on how actors focus on the little negative comments so much even with the overwhelming positive comments online, that this is actually pretty cool for them and that they probably really do appreciate when crews set up these type "interviews" where they took the time to select very loving comments for the actors to read 😃.

I first saw Barry in American Animals which I watched for Evan Peters (My number crush of all time) I was impressed by Barrys acting so I watched Saltburn, oh and all the stuff people had been telling me about it.

That woman is amazing. I agree. She is one of the "auteurs," those rare directors/writers whose work I always check out, every time. For me, the two others in that category are Almodovar and the late Agnes Varda. I first started watching Almodovar films (at the time quite obscure) in 1984 (yikes, FORTY years ago). At this point, have seen them all and have several collections.
If by chance you have not seen any or all of his work, I highly recomend it!
