I wonder if Diana and Twiggy spoke to each other backstage. The older set here will remember Diana use to mention Twiggy in her stage patter during The Supremes live shows.
Interesting trivia; Edith Head appeared as herself on an Episode of Columbo in January of 1973, complete with her collection of Oscars on her desk. Columbo asks "is that the woman from the academy awards?" Anne Baxter's character has Edith find a more fashionable tie for Columbo. In real life, Anne Baxter and Edith head were friends, and the latter had dressed the former in the Ten Commandments.
1974!!! Geez!! I was only 18!! Graduating high school!! Gosh that was soo long ago. I've been watching the Oscars probably since 1965!! They've been wonderful every year (: I wish I could win one!!!
Thank you very much. Really, thank you. You should also upload the main awards of the movies. About The Sting, the screenplay award. Also the Chariots of Fire screenplay.
Edith Head would win 8 Oscars in her long career. The ironic thing is, she lobbied very hard for the Academy to create the best costume design category in 1948.
Pete Falk almost never gets comments about how much sex appeal he really had - so cute and coarse and 'street classy'; a real dream boat. Check him out in 1976s 'Griffin and Phoenix" opposite the divine Jill Clayburgh where he plays a role against the type he was mostly playing at that time.
Edith won more Oscars than any other female. This was her last. Still I wish it would have gone to Moss Mabry who never won and had his last nod that year. Thank you for posting winning moments again. I was afraid they had stopped. Eagle eyed viewers can see Edith pass former winner Maximilian Schell on her way to the stage. She also passes the great icon Francois Truffaut who won an Oscar that eve for DAY FOR NIGHT. Any chance you can post that? Keep up the good work!
The thing about Miss Ross is that if you see her without make-up and gowns, she's what in vulgar terms is known as 'plain' - but ah, that is the secret! Replace 'plain' with 'tabula rasa' and you have the answer...if you check her out in some of the shots where she is in Bob Mackie's gowns in the 70's or ANY frame of "Mahogany" you see how stunningly beautiful she is...then god back to "Miss Plain" and then you REALLY see how beautiful she is.
@ legedaryone she has hosted the USA Academy Awards ceremonies more times that a person cares to count. She's show biz royalty, and rightfully so _____________________________ legedaryone 4 weeks ago Did Diana host the Oscars that year?
LOL....You don't know "The Academy"? Edith Head won because her body of work as lead costume designer for over 40 years at MGM & other studios that thought after her relentlessly for important film projects. LOL....The same reason the Oscar (The Academy) went to Liza Minnelli for "Cabaret" and not Diane Ross for "Lady Sing The Blues" YOU HAVE TO PAY YOUR DUES BEING THE BEST OF THE BEST AND AT A GIVEN MOMENT LIKE "EDITH HEAD" YOU GET YOUR "OSCAR" Diane Ross didn't have the patience & stamina!
She was an iconic fashion model. She helped contribute to the "MOD" fashion era. She was very slight of frame. She became a celebrity as a result. She used to appear on TV shows of the era and could act a bit and tell a good joke. I think she was on "Laugh In" at least once.
Edith Head won an Oscar for a movie she didn't even design, Universal just slapped her name on it the real designers of The Sting were Vincent Dee, Peter Saldutti, Bernie Pollack and Andrea Weaver.
@@michaelkarnerfors9545 Those designs were illustrations done by sketch artist Richard Hopper and she just signed her name to them. Ask any professional costume designer and they will tell you the same thing. Edith Head didn't design the Sting, she was used as a promotion since her name was well known.
I think Edith used to say that the most important thing for costumes is that they help the story that the film is trying to tell. To that extent I think the costumes in "The Sting" were spot on.
The greatest costume designer Hollywood has every seen! Period.
Look at how BEAUTIFUL Diana Ross is!! She's glowing
Yes she is. And she’s *STILL* Shining today. :D
Classy speech! Edna Mode had big boots to fill.
Edith Head gives great costume.
The pure glamour Diana gives is worth more than an Oscar ❤
Now I know where they got the idea for Edna Mode from the Incredibles. LOL
love twiggy ...and her beautifull 70s BIBA dress...she look woow
The Sting has great costume design.
That’s debatable.

Edna was in fact modeled after Edith.
Diana's curly afro made this for me
This was the last Oscar who Edith Head received.

Look, it's Edna Mode from The Incredibles.
Welcome back, Oscar ceremonies videos!!!
I love the background music.
Wonderful
NO CAPES!
ross was rocking that Oscars and angela davis look
Diana got a big good-looking afro!!!!!
very talented woman.
No capes! Only suits!
Ah ah, Peter sure is cute ! :)

why all the music video in this era doesn't use the indoor camera like this? it has an awesome color and so sharp

Did Diana host the Oscars that year?
yes, with david niven, john huston and
I agree
That where that character came from. They modeled Edna after her.
twiggy you look more beautiful now
The movie soundtrack, that won an Oscar for Best Score Adaptation that night.
That year Marvin Hamlisch won in all three musical categories!
TIME magazine griped that Edith Head won her THE STING Oscar for remembering how people dressed in the '30s!
I don't like what Twiggy was wearing but she's still cute af. And Diana, woo...women were a different kind of beauty back then!!
LOL....You don't know "The Academy"?

Diane Ross didn't have the patience & stamina!
It's always made me wonder why they can't just go to Macy's and buy some of that stuff.
+BroccoliBeefed Under the lights the seams show. And it looks cheap. that's why they spent so much money to outfit Sarah Palin.
What was that inside joke about Peter Falk?
His rumpled look on "Columbo".
Did Diana host the Oscars that year?
Apparently, that's who she was based on!
edith head had th ecutist voice in her old age, plus she was very quirky!
Sorry, I guess people didn't get what I meant. Diana is lovely here.
He is flirting with her the whole time. I believe thats what he is doing...the whole time.
sorry but im not being rude but was was Twiggy famous for? and how did she get on the Oscars? she must have been a big deal once? yes?
She was the Kate Moss of the '60s.
She was an iconic fashion model. She helped contribute to the "MOD" fashion era. She was very slight of frame. She became a celebrity as a result. She used to appear on TV shows of the era and could act a bit and tell a good joke. I think she was on "Laugh In" at least once.
What the hell was going on behind the curtain??
Edith Head won an Oscar for a movie she didn't even design, Universal just slapped her name on it the real designers of The Sting were Vincent Dee, Peter Saldutti, Bernie Pollack and Andrea Weaver.
Just search for "Edith Head" "The Sting" and you end up with images of the signed designs by Edith. The others were consumers, not designers.

I believe you.@@johnyzero2000
Touche to those who say black women ain't fine.
I mean Diana is simply lovely and incredibly sexy here and that the beauty of black women has been undervalued.
She's lovely here. I still think Mary was the hottest Supreme, though.
Yup, Mary is the hottest. She's still hot too.
Edith Head não merecia esse oscar....
LOL...Twiggy was the High Fashion Supermodel of the day and Diane Ross was THE POISON SUPREME!
Edith Head's win for The Sting is lame. The costumes are mundane. Cries and Whispers should have won.
It did win for cinematography, by the great Sven Nykvist. (That year, THE STING was sweeping the Oscars...)
I think Edith used to say that the most important thing for costumes is that they help the story that the film is trying to tell.
To that extent I think the costumes in "The Sting" were spot on.
What is Twiggy wearing? What a hot mess!
a BIBA dress, she look so trendy
Diana girl...Love that hair. About Twiggy only the Hair Bandana, cause the dress is awful.
Piero Tosi should have won. The costumes for The Sting were dreadful and boring.
The Sting has great costume design.
