I first heard this record as a young guy of 21 in 1970. I am English and I had never heard of Joe Dolan until I heard this and I put it on continuously on the juke box in my local pub. It is so well produced and this was made for no one but Joe himself and as soon as I heard the finger-snapping toe-tapping intro I knew I was in for a moment in heaven. i WAS NEVER DISAPPOINTED.. The world is a poorer place without Joe being in it. The man was a star and I was proud to be a quarter Irish (my Dad's Dad) because of the remarkable talent Ireland has given the world for such a long long time. God bless Joe. You will always be remembered with great love and affection in England.
2021 and I'm still enjoying Joe on CZcams. He, Ben and the band entertained us in Northern Ireland at the Orpheus dance hall in Belfast when we were all young and during the troubles when other entertainers wouldn't come here. My husband and I went to all of his shows every time he came up here. The atmosphere was electric! On the day of his funeral we set out at 6.30am from Whiteabbey in NI and drove through the dark, wind and rain to Mullingar. We couldn't get into the Cathedral but kind people who heard of our journey, shuffled us to the front so we could see the cortege coming out. On the way back home we agreed it was the right thing to do even though the family were worried that at our age we'd lost our wits! Thank you Joe, Ben, Adrian and Ray and all the band members over the years for being a part of our lives. 🥰
Imagine this man in today's era of things like X Factor and such there would be one hell of a rush to push that Golden Button. A true man of talent and compassion. R.I.P Joe
may your soul rst in peace, I grew up with your songs.Loved mostly all of them, but Make me an island, was the best.Hope to meet you someday in heaven. All my respact to your family, and loved ones.
A great song from Joe Dolan and a treasure to include in My Favourite's.I will always remember seeing him coming on stage in his white suit in St.Mary's Hall in Portadown one Year's Eve night.I can't remember the year but it would have been around 1968/70.His opening song that night was "Your Such A Good Looking Woman".Sadly,it was the only time I can recall seeing him on stage, but it was a night to remember.
I remember Joe from when I was a patient in a nearby hospital in Coole, Co Westmeath and Joe used to come and visit the patients with his brother Ben and use to sing in the hospital hall, this was back in the sixties when he was first starting out on his showbiz career. He was great with the kids and even made friendships with some. RIP JOE.
There are so many people around the world that wish God Rest to such a talented and popular gentleman. A favourite for South Africans - last weekend we had a reunion "braai", sheep-on-a-spit with wors and all, his music made us so happy - verlang so baie. We were in a long forgotten world when he was in the charts . . .
