I feel like you’re spot on with everything that you said! Let’s bring it home this season boys. #GoNiners
One of your better discussions Larry, Keep up the good work
I think that you are absolutely right this year's draft was to set themselves up to be the best position they possibly can for next year's free agency my question is what do they do in next year's draft
Hey Larry, NinerDad here. Love your stuff, always have. I think another big cut/trade next off season, that will help free up some cap space for Brock, would be Javon Hargraves. Older player on a 2 year guaranteed deal.
As a Seahawks fan, I thought San Fran missed some opportunities in the draft. I thought the Pearsall pick was confusing. I thought they would do everything to try and get Roger Rosengarten. He would instantly give you a better right tackle and have potential to replace Trent down the road.
I thought Ladd McConkey was actually a better BA replacement. Very solid route runner with a desire to block and high upside.
I don't really buy the theory. Pearsall as a first round pick works because of the immediacy of his potential impact. He's been in college for a long time, he's polished. That's his strong suit, rather than some potential trajectory. He gives you immediate redundancy and leverage to move Aiyuk and or Deebo if the opportunity arises. He makes less sense if you want to replace Deebo or Aiyuk next season because he probably never becomes your #1 and there were probably better choices in the draft if that what you wanted. Mustapha also could be called upon sooner than next season if Hufanga takes time to get to form after rehabbing all offseason. He could very well not be the same guy. The corner situation for different reasons, with so many bodies theyll have to make difficult roster decisions before theyre in a position to have to consider resigning anyone. Thomas for instance may be cut for the rookie. And Ward and his contract may not be addressed til after this year. Where was Kittles replacement? They dont even have a reliable backup for old ass Trent. They would need a miracle draft to fill those gaps next year.
For sure Brock would take a team friendly deal.
instead of players being paid crazy money, how about lowering ticket, merchandise prices
You’re on a list now
You got that right all these players are over paid the rich are killing the country
They go hand in hand with salaries….
Won't change the salary cap
H
I like your thoughts. Great points
Salary cap will continue to grow exponentially!! We’re good
Most days I tell myself that Aiyuk is the guy we should prioritize but then I start thinking about who has more impact plays in bigger moments and I still think that leans towards Deebo. I think it was John Lynch in interview mentioned something Deebo said during the half time break in the NFC Championship and that was to get him the fuck*ng ball and lo and behold. Guess who comes out and breaks out for a huge impact play that kickstarted the comeback.
Always need some good players on rookie deals for sure
Agree The ‘24 Draft wasn’t about the Open SB Window for the upcoming Season!
The Players they did draft seem to be lower pedigree with limited upside overall!
Perhaps in theory less ceiling less costly contracts down the Road! Reminds of an article titled(?)
“Protect the Lemonade Stand” an article from 9ers Nation last Year.
Bottom line is that this 24/25 season is the backside of the window of opportunity for this team, as assembled, to win a championship.
what ever happened to Danny Gray? i had high hopes
I agree 2025 is a big part of it. But I also think they saw Brocks success being an older more experienced and polished draft prospect and targeted experience over upside.
Shanahan and Lynch will have to blow up the roster in 2025 because of Purdy's pending contract.
😂 Agree, the draft is always about replacing weakness or salary cap concerns. WR Pearsall n Cowing could be replacement for Deebo or BA. But why keep Jennings if Bell was his replacement? LB Winters n Graham could be replacement for Warner n Greenlaw. CB Luter n Green could be replacement for Moody or Lenoir. SS Brown or Mustafa could be replacement for Hufaguna. Wills n Latu should have been replacement for Kittle. But Niners ignore OT. Williams is 35+. Could retire or get injured. OG/OT Puni n Kingston could be at least backups for starters. Guerendo could be another reach like Latu. On measurebles. Change position. Could he be FB like Juice or TE/HB like Wills (Walker). Niners also been ignoring the D-line in draft lately. Opting for FAs n Trades. Might be hard to build chemistry with players that changes every yr. Defense fell to #12. Its rare for UFAs to make 53. Last yr UFAs all are no longer with team. College make not fully developed players. Physically n mentally. Up to scouts n coaches see untapped potential. Role players are important too. Niners been letting go role players, they didn't pay up for, but didn't find replacements for. Like DT DJ jones or FS/slot CB Ward or LB Alz. Used to be the draft was the way to improve. Now, because of the salary cap, team must release players they wish they vould keep, but can't because of cost. Brock deserves more pay, but 60 mill might put team in rebuilding mode, as many starters might need to be traded or release. Brock should be like Brady, he didn't take highest salary, he knew he need a team to win. Titles more important than $$. BA should realize this too. Can get highest WR pay, on weak team, that goes no where, double teamed because everyone know he's the only option. On a little less play, on a team bound for playoffs. Might even get more open because the other targets mean defense can't double team him.
What you are describing Larry is what is usually the case, no?
Thank you Larry. Pig in a pickle.
Larry don’t you think purdy takes a team friendly deal like Brady
Most of us think he will🙏🏼
Let's hope. But, Brady had a wife that made more money than he did, which is not the case for any other athletes. Also, Brady had already tasted getting rings, and he wanted to be able to have the pats keep good players around him, thus that sacrifice. Brock has to get his first ring.
Extend Lenoir and Banks. Trade Huff if possible if Mustapha plays well.
Banks is ass, had one of the lowest grades in the Super Bowl
Banks sucks, he looks good next to Trent but he is nothing special.
They are going to give Burford every opportunity to win RG so puni can replace banks. If Burford fails, they probably have puni at RG and figure out LG
What about Feliciano?
Greenlaw is probably gone next year
Brock is Not worth $50M +
Then they can trade him and watch him win Super Bowls with another team. They can bring back Garoppolo or Trey Lance or whoever.
When you look at what other guys are getting paid, it's hard to argue he's not.
Like it or not, thats the market, by next season qb price will go up, but I believe Brock will take a team friendly, I not believe he will command $55-60
By the time Purdy's contract is renewed some QB will get about 70 mill. It goes up every year. Dak wants 60 and the Jags QB got 60 and didn't even make the playoffs. If Purdy repeats last season he is going to get 60. They got a lot out of him as a rookie on a cheap contract so they shouldn't mind too much about paying him, as his cheap contract helped them extend Bosa and other players.
