    They are awesome man nice youngsters. Great info as well. I see these palms all over Southwest Florida when I visit my mom in the winter. So cool 😎

      Thank you! I was surprised at how quickly and easily these things can grow. I heard they have blown up in popularity in South Florida.

    Hi, I have managed to aquire one of these fantastic preleaf seeds i live in the UK I was told by the seller to acclimatise it to full sun now further information I have managed to repot into a 12inch pot any help would be greatly appreciated. Kind regards Frank.
    Ps the soil that the sprouted seed came in had 3 bismarkia seeds in there not germinated how best to get them to germinate.

      I would keep the seeds that haven’t sprouted yet in a consistent temperature of 32-35 Celsius with the soil lightly moist. Depending on how fresh the seeds are it may take a while. I’ve had some that never sprouted even though they were in the same conditions as ones that did. I have a few like that right now.

      You might be able to use a 3 gal if the roots aren't too deep. I needed the width of the 5 gal, because the first two seedlings had the roots growing more outward from being in the baggie for too long. The other two had more normal root systems and the 5 gal seemed like more than enough room them.

    Greetings from North Saanich, BC. Just found your channel. Straight to the point and love that you actually say how long it took to reach that size.
    Out of curiosity, what do you do to debug yours pots before bringing them indoors? Are you using grow lights to keep them going over winter or just have them in window sills?

    • @zonehardypalms1188
      @zonehardypalms1188  Před 3 lety

      Thank you! Luckily I’ve been able to keep these outside the past couple of winters. They are in a south facing area near the front entrance, so it’s a nice little microclimate. They’ve seen upper 20’s at night with no problems. If brought indoors, I’d replace with new soil, being sure to clean the inside of the pot thoroughly before adding the new soil. I have tried things like neem oil, but didn’t see great results with other indoor plants I’m growing. They require a lot of light, so a south-facing window inside should be sufficient. Otherwise, grow lamps may need to be used for most indoor growing. Additionally, if they are going to be in chilly conditions, be sure to keep the moisture low, as they don’t like wet, cold climates.
      Hope that helps a bit. Thank you for the comment!

    Hello thank you for youre video. I'm in douther California zone 9a .do ypu know of i can put mu new seedling that just started rooting in a greenhouse to make it warmer to grow faster now that winter is coming. Or just put them outside I got like 1200 seeds that o started germinating and some seeds are showing roots allready thank you in advance

    • @zonehardypalms1188
      @zonehardypalms1188  Před 3 lety

      In 9a I would keep them in a greenhouse or in a sunny position indoors the first year or so since they are just rooting. Also, be sure to plant the new seedlings in a 1 gallon or taller pot as the roots will need a lot of space to grow. Otherwise you could get a deformed seedling if the roots get too obstructed. Thanks for the comment!

      I had the same issue with about half of the seeds. The ones that sprouted took 2-4 weeks. The other ones I left in the bag for a few months, but nothing. Same bag, same conditions, but totally different results. I know some seeds can take over a year to sprout.

    I would appreciate your input on how long one must wait before the fruit is ready to plant? I have a Silver Bismark with seeds that are about the size of a large grape and is green in color. How long does it take to mature and fall from the tree?
    Thanks

    • @zonehardypalms1188
      @zonehardypalms1188  Před 3 lety

      Not sure how long it will take for them to fully ripen. It may vary depending on the climate conditions. Could take at least a few more weeks before they start becoming viable. You want to make sure they are completely dark brown, almost black before planting them. Some of them may ripen faster than others and start falling from the tree, but if they’re still green they will need a little more time.

      Do these need to be kept inside or can I grow them in a full-sun lanai in central FL?

    • @zonehardypalms1188
      @zonehardypalms1188  Před 2 lety

      They would do better in a lanai with full sun. Not much of an indoor palm due to lack of sunlight.

    please tell me: I was transplanting a small Bismarck palm that had just emerged from the ground, and I broke off the tip of the main root. I immediately treated it with activated carbon. Will she be able to survive this? It has small lateral roots.

    • @zonehardypalms1188
      @zonehardypalms1188  Před 3 lety

      Sounds like it could be fatal since the main root was broken. Especially at a young age. It will likely go into some level of transplant shock, so avoid giving the palm any fertilizer at this time since it could add more stress to the root system. Your best bet is to keep the palm as happy as possible in a warm, sunny area and keep the roots undisturbed, so they can resettle. Fingers crossed 🤞

      @@zonehardypalms1188 okay, thanks for the advice buddy, I can keep her in a warm environment, but there are no Windows, and there is no sunlight. I will also provide peace. I still hope that while there is a recharge from the seeds, and that it is small, he will survive. I have seen large bismarckia transplanted with small remnants of earth and roots, and they have survived.

    • @zonehardypalms1188
      @zonehardypalms1188  Před 3 lety

      If the skin on the seeds are green and have already been removed from the tree, there's a chance they may not sprout. They will turn a dark purple when ready and are most viable as soon as they drop to the ground. Try leaving them out for a few days and see if they darken up. When you're able to remove the skin, try soaking the bare seeds in a glass of water. If they sink to the bottom, there's a good chance they are viable. If they float, keep them in the water for a couple of days. If they don't eventually sink, they may be bad. I would still try planting them anyway just in case. Lots of heat humidity will give them the best chance at germination. Hope this helps!

    • @zonehardypalms1188
      @zonehardypalms1188  Před 4 lety +1

      Same form. The silver Bismarck can vary in coloration. I’ve noticed that the seedlings I have are shooting out bluer looking strap leaves when young, but have been turning more silver as they get older. Full sun and high heat will bring out the bright silver color more.
