Rescuing The Unmade Warband

- This week I take on a $16 find on ebay. The Warhammer Warcry warband, The Unmade. I have wanted to get my hands on this warband for quite some time and I finally found it for a good price! There's always a little risk when you find a box like this on eBay, but luckily everything but one hand was still in the box.
It’s been brought to my attention that this video very similar to Marco Frisoni’s video on painting the same warband. I remember watching Marco’s video on The Unmade when it came out, as I do with all of his videos. I didn’t realize that these were so similar or I would have mentioned it in the video. It’s certainly not my intention to rehash someone else’s video, I guess it just stuck with me and I didn’t realize how much. Marco is a fantastic painter and teacher, and I didn’t mean to tread on his work in any way, so, I’m sorry.

I like your finished work! One tiny thing triggered me sort of... I would've colored the hands that function as some kind of loincloth on 2 of the models different.. maybe more leathery or more white to show its death flesh...
Other than that you did great!

You aren't the only person basically redoing his video.
I would be very surprised if Marco himself complained or cared about that and to anyone else complaining, they should just shut up. Someone else probably did something similar before Marco too
it would be so easy to get lost in the details of these models and spend the rest of your life dabbing away with a 0000 brush, but you show how they can be tackled with confidence and still look fantastic. Thanks for the tips and de-mistfying the process of painting a host of miniatures!
I'm seriously loving all the new experimenting you're doing with the channel, Casey! Different music choices, a bit of flair when it comes to showing off the paints and inks you're using, showing your basing process... Lovin' it man. Keep it up.
I don’t play tabletop games, I’m not crafty, and I don’t paint... anything. But I have been binge watching all of your videos the past week. You do an amazing job and love how much your channel and you have grown. I would love for you to rescue some models and then collaborate with Jeremy of Black magic crafts. Have him put together a diorama for the models! Then throw it up on eBay and maybe donate the proceeds to a charity of y’all choice. I think his and your style are so very similar and would be fun to watch!

Your video coudln't have come at a better time. I was painting a spirit host with inks for the first time today. Love the approach on the leather.Also dig how your first past of ink with the oil wash came together.
I like the word you use "Rescuing" in your channel. Sometime I love to see people turning 2nd hand or scrap into something meaningful

The inks were a great call for preshading everything in a really spooky way.

Love the Flesh Tearers Red over the metallics. Definitely trying that! 👍🏻
Another cheap method for making contrast of a given color; get some contrast medium (enough to cover what you're painting), take a couple drops of the colors you want to use and mix it all together. So, you only spend $7 on the medium and can create any contrast color you need.

As a model rescuer. I was wondering how you would rescue a GW WH40K landraider thats been painted with testors enamel paints . Painted thickly.
Hey, do you allready have, or if not could you consider doing a hobby space video? I'm curious about your desk setup. Did I see parts of a standing rolling toolbox? Just curious cause my own hobby space is super tiny and I'm in desperate need of organization lol

Warcry new box looks very good thoughts on you making content on the models when it comes out.
Great content as always. One critique, the comment about the 8$ pot of contrast was a little underwhelming when your solution was three bottles of ink, also usually around 8$ a pop, and a 10-12$ bottle of medium.
Like I know you can get a lot of mileage out of all of those but that ain’t a really newbie friendly alternative.

Thanks man! The liquitex medium is great, it mixes in really well to give you nice consistencies and making, essentially, contrast paints, is super quick. The bottle is huge too so it will last for a very long time. The glaze medium is really good for the price as well. I like to put a little bit of each on my wet pallet, they are nice options to have sitting right next to your paints.

Question: have you ever had a mini that's so caked in superglue that you have to soak it in LA's Totally Awesome for 3 months and still have some problem places? Cause I'm currently going through that via a 45 man unit of Eisenkern troopers and all of them had heavy amounts of superglue on them when the original owner built them. HELP!
put them in the freezer. Freeze/thaw cycle a few times and superglue will fall off
Well you have me infected with rescueing miniatures from ebay.
Already have saved 3 Space Marine Cybot, and 5 more got repaired, restocken, based and primed so far .( the metal one among them even has a wooden foot replacement 😁 )
But since all of them were cheaper than the new ones, I am going to make them nice and ready 😁
So jealous. I have a search agent and check several times a week, but even if I find something good and cheap, the shipping to Austria destroys it for me most of the time.

Well of course you have to calculate wisely, because some are more expensiv than buying new ones.
But searching on ebay is quite a challenge today, since ebay seems to overlook your search and brings not all matches for it.
Oh, maybe we should also exchange what you are looking for, so that we dont interfere with each other. (I can speak German also 😁 )

Lately it feels that everyone is using those vallejo metal colors (and with good reason), just wondering if they just got discovered by everyone, or if that is just selective recognition by me, cause I also use them.
yeah think they just came to light, and for good reason. the coverage looks amazing. I been meaning to grab some and give them a try. especially the dark metal one Jeremy from BMC uses alot, and the bright chrome KC used here

Im sorry to say but the helmets look close to only based compared to the rest of the models. The color pops nicely but it really didnt work for me at all. I would have atleast done some kind of edge highlight on the helmets. They look really "flat" vs the rest of the model
Nice painting on some really cool models, I feel your video is too dark though and I can't make out the details on your minis properly.
Looks a lot like enemys from Diablo's Jungles.
I was gonna suggest a new motto: "Time to finger your minis"...but looking at that sentence, I retract my idea and stand in the corner.
