    I love my Icelandic horses, there's nothing better. These folks seem so familiar to me here in the middle of the US. So many Nordic peoples settled here that their ways seem like home.

    That was very thoughtful to take two horses to give one of them a rest on the way back. 🙏💖💖💖

      I have heard that's a custom in Iceland. That way one can ride further on long rides too, switching horses back and forth. AND when you ride on your own, with another horse along the one you're riding will step livelier! Or should. And a second horse always gets exercise too. So, lots of great reasons, when one thinks about it to take a second horse along.

    I have been watching Meg Elphick ride your horses and now watching your videos. So good !
    May I ask why you use bridles and not just a halter if you use bodyweight to communicate.

    This is on my bucket list, to visit Iceland and ride one of these beautiful horses. I really hope I can do that one of these days. I have ridden gaited horses before and they are such a pleasure to ride

    Absolutely epic and made my day Mr Iceland, thank you! Can I ask a silly question - how do you make sure your saddle fits both horses?

    • @MrIceland
      @MrIceland  Před 3 lety +2

      Hi Sandy, what a great question! To be honest not all horses have one size for saddle, but they are adjustable and that helps. But in most cases if you saddle correctly and adjust your saddle should do the work :)

    I wonder what style horse riding they do in Iceland. My grandfather never bounced on a horse. He was an excellent horse rider.

    Beautiful horses. Love the saddles..are horses shod? How often do you see Icelandic sheep? Do they milk their cows by hand or with machine? My mother-in- law rode bareback in winter so horse could keep her warm, but she was lighter than you, so good you use saddles. Knitting with icelandic wool. Thanks for showing us your happy life.

    • @MrIceland
      @MrIceland  Před 3 lety +1

      Yes horses are shod, and you see Icelandic sheep all the time during summer months in iceland. We normally use machines to milk cows. Keep up the knitting - the Icelandic wool has saved my life many times!!

    Do you have criteria for taking 2 horses on a ride? Is it distance, time, speed, road/trail conditions, weight of riders? In this video why did you take two horses for the ride?

    • @MrIceland
      @MrIceland  Před 3 lety

      hi Pierre, yes basically all of the above you have to keep a close eye on the condition of the horse and then make the best judgement call. As a rule the best think is to chance horses as often as possible since the rest while jogging next to you
