    Me watching this without headphones so I can clean while listening, then they say please turn on Klingon subtitles. My fiance who is a HUGE Trekkie... "Wait did they just say Klingon subtitles? Are they going to start speaking in Klingon? This channel is amazing what are you watching?!" Also him immediately says "tlhIngan maH!" he was very disappointed when you didn't speak Klingon. 😂

    Wow, another great playthrough. Honestly, watching the two of you play is almost as much fun as playing the game myself. (It must be the tight editing! :-) ) I can't wait for this to arrive in my mailbox! I think you could really do a lot with a green screen, a la Rhado. It would allow you to give close-ups of the cards and game pieces which would really help your already excellent videos.

    While I think you did a great job working with what you had, the final scores of this game might create the wrong impression about how much Newleaf changes Everdell. Monique comments at the end that it’s a powerful expansion, but I think that the high scores have a lot to do with rules mistakes.
    My understanding is that the golden occupied tokens are just like regular occupied tokens except that they are not attached to a specific critter but rather a type (unique, common, tan traveler, purple prosperity, etc.). Like regular occupied tokens, these represent a critter occupying a building you constructed. So, when a card allows you to play any tan traveler, for example, it is implied that it is any tan traveler critter (thus the image of critters in the bottom corner where you place the occupied token), not a tan traveler building.
    Naveen was wondering if they made any mistakes with the combos; it was pretty interesting to trace out how significant of an effect Monique’s combos through misuses of the golden occupied tokens had on her final score. Hopefully this is helpful to others and not just pedantic:
    At around 41:15, Monique uses a golden occupied token to play “any tan traveler,” and chooses a Hot Air Balloon, which is another construction, not a critter. Then she uses that Hot Air Balloon to copy Naveen’s Ranger and then go to Hotel to play the Clock Tower, worth 3 points (plus another later as a unique construction).
    At around 50:00, Monique similarly uses the Bank to play the Palace (one of the most valuable and highest cost buildings in the game). That Palace later scores Monique 4 plus 7 more for each unique building, for a total of 11. Monique then uses this illegally acquired Palace to acquire the Queen for free (4 base points). Then Monique uses the illegally acquired Queen to play the Library for free (3 base points plus five more at the end of game).
    At around 55:50, Monique uses golden leaf on Corrin Evertail card but does not have any red destination buildings to place her golden occupied token on (she only has the Queen, which is not a building), so she places it on the upper left of the card, opposite to how occupied tokens work. That card ends up giving Monique 10 more points, with the base value plus 8 coins for giving away cards and resources.
    There’s a lot more butterfly effect, including Monique later using the illegally placed Queen to use…the butterfly Poet for 4 more points. All in all, these misuses of the golden occupied tokens probably added around 40 points to her score. Naveen did a few of the same things, but with less dramatic combo-ing effects.
    Others have pointed out that you are supposed to remove 1 worker when using player powers, starting by not receiving a worker in spring and ultimately taking away 3 total worker placement movements. That adds a big boost to the scores as well, especially given how powerful Monique’s player power was. Legendary cards tend to add another 10-15 extra points to final scores.
    So I would say that Newleaf isn’t going to create as dramatic an increase in scoring as this playthrough makes it appear, though it will open new scoring opportunities and synergies for experienced players.
    Thanks for the playthrough-and for indulging this long comment from an avid Everdell fan.

      @glennherrera4537 Před 2 lety +1

      This is an excellent trace through of the missteps that really change the game (and score 😅). There are enough nuances to the Everdell rule set that make the base game a bit trickier than a new player might expect, but it spirals pretty quickly with the (yet to be released) expansions. Naveen noted there were "some pretty crazy combos" and he wasn't kidding, but it's nice to see a solid correction that should hopefully make the game feel a bit more interesting to new and existing players. Berry well done!

    • @MrBants
      @MrBants Před 2 lety +1

      Naveen also played a undertaker with the cemeterys effect and for some reaso put an occupy token on the cemetery when he didn't need to. Also didn't even use the undertakers effect. Alot of misplays and drawing and doing things in the wrong order so these points at the end don't really mean much

    • @zacdredge3859
      @zacdredge3859 Před rokem

      I think her Bats player power was just way more impactful overall. Hoarding cards that don't take up space gives you a more economic scoring at the end game(aside from just letting you pick off valuable stuff before you can afford it) compared to the increased flexibility in not being able to be blocked which Naveen did more often anyway and seems less relevant in 2 player than 3.

    You can use a minor mole to copy another minor mole to activate a production in your city. That's one of my favorite combinations.

    • @johnleavelle8036
      @johnleavelle8036 Před 3 lety +1

      This is accurate. A minor mole in a persons city (Monique) CAN be used to activate a minor mole in an opponent’s city (Naveen), which in turn can activate a production card in a different opponent’s city. The opponent for Naveen is Monique, so Naveen’s minor mole activates (or reactivates) one of her production cards. A minor mole chain like this is essentially the same action as activating 1 chip sweep in a city your own city. It’s an awkward chain and can get misused or be misunderstood a lot. Minor moles do not work well with other opponent production cards like an opponent’s storehouse, husband, or the chip sweep.

    • @ryanhorricks
      @ryanhorricks Před 3 lety

      I have never used these new Farms yet but when using the Minor Mole to activate it is possible Naveen could not have been able to acquire a second berry since he would be the opponent and had no Farm. That's the rule with mirroring the minor mole (opponent) vs the "your city" with the Chipsweep. With the chipsweep the your relates to the city it resides while the minor mole relates to opponents of the city that card resides in.

      Yeah, it's amazing they were able to pull off that price point!

    • @zhivik
      @zhivik Před 3 lety +2

      Something very important here - the $200 price tag DOES NOT include VAT/sales tax. They state it clearly in the “Taxes” section that they will collect tax through a pledge manager after the campaign, along with shipping costs. I am not very familiar with how sales tax is applied in North America - I do know rates differ among US states and Canadian provinces, but I believe shipping is not taxed everywhere. However, if you are in Europe, your final price is going to be:
      ($200 + shipping costs) multiplied by 1.19 if you live in the EU (except France), by 1.20 if you live in the UK or France, and by 1.25 if you live in Norway
      As I understand it, this brings the final price pretty close to the retail price for the full package, if you buy everything separately (using the listed retail price for the two expansions in the campaign). You still get a deal, though, as you will obtain a single storage solution and all the upgraded components, which could be a pretty decent sum on their own.
      Just wanted to clarify that, as $200 for the full collection sounds great, but it is not the actual price you are going to pay.

    • @s2slamuel
      @s2slamuel Před 3 lety

      Zhivko Yakimov shipping included were at $226 in US..... that whole package costs EASILY between $450 and $500 and that’s IF you get free shipping from the retail sites you buy it from. Tax adds another $13. I’m frankly baffled at the price they chose, and if I had been backing since the start would be unbelievably pissed at that complete collection price. The original backers payed over $150 more for all the stuff complete edition KSer are getting

    • @s2slamuel
      @s2slamuel Před 3 lety

      But I do see that EU countries do have a much larger tax than us so it does hike up the price more than expected but it’s still far far below retail price

    Late to the party here but, according to the rules from the Bellfaire expansions, if you are going to use the critter powers, you don't get a worker going into spring. Regardless, We always use the critter powers with all the workers available to us. Especially playing Spirecrest. Those Weather cards are nasty and too punishing. I'd say play how it will make it fun. Many games have been really close for both of us. We play everything, Pearlbrook, Bellfaire, Spirecrest, Extra Extra!! I think you can copy the copy with the Miner Mole with the exception of the storehouse - unless if two miner moles in play and you have the storehouse and then you can reactivate your own storehouse

    • @ErikHuizinga
      @ErikHuizinga Před 3 lety

      This: thematically the miner mole digs a tunnel to your opponent's city to activate a production card over there. That production card is in the opponent's city and interacts with the opponent's city cards. E.g. if the opponent has a Farm and a Barge Toad (gives 2 Twigs per Farm), then the Barge Toad can be activated and produce 2 Twigs for the opponent's Farm. You can also copy a Miner Mole with the Miner Mole to simply activate a production in your own city.

    Great playthrough, but I really wish they had sent you all the new components, as I feel there may be some caveat with the new expansion cards. On their own, they appear a little bit too powerful to be just plugged in into the base game. But who knows, maybe it was the intent all along.
    I like they included an option to automate an additional player, hopefully it is as good as in Root - it will certainly help with refreshing meadow cards more frequently. It wasn’t an issue with your game, as you quickly gained powers that let you draw quite a few cards, but it may be not so good if you had played different factions, so an additional player will help with lower player counts.

      We were very confused when we received just a small portion of the expansion content. We also have never played anything other than base Everdell in the past. When we heard that 1 expansion added a bot we were excited, we would imagine it would make the Meadow much more exciting and fresh.

      The 1st time we ever played it was taught improperly (people could take cards beyond 8 and discard down). So the game became way too efficient and LOOOOONG @ 4 players. We like it better at smaller player counts, but the Meadow can become stale at 2P.

    I asked you a few months ago about Everdell the answer was that wrong rules make this game a bad experience for you. How about now? I love your Lacerda's series(games) and love Everdell. Do you also enjoy both or Everdell is too simple? In my opinion in a competetive group it is very challanging and combo-satisfying.

      ???

    • @BeforeYouPlay
      @BeforeYouPlay  Před 3 lety +1

      It's certainly better knowing the rules (before it was taught to us that you could draw past 8 cards and discard down to 8). We both find the game good but not blown away great. It runs longer than we want each and every time be play.

    • @ryanhorricks
      @ryanhorricks Před 3 lety

      How long do your plays typically run? We primarily play at 2 or add the new bot for 3 and plays usually go for us 45 to 60 minutes. Though adding the legendary cards with the player cards could lengthen that a bit, which is probably why legendary cards were originally recommended not to be mixed with other expansions. I think the only expansion that was meant to work with other expansions was Belfaire. So I can see how adding lengendary, player powers and night leaf cards could extend a game beyond its desired game end.
