Yeah, but see, the thing is, the types of kids that you're referring to aren't even really "emo". The music and bands that got labeled as "emo" in the early to mid/late 2000s and up through today, aren't even actually really truly emo. They're more just like "sad indie pop" type music. When the term "emo" was coined/created, it was being used to describe punk/hardcore bands along the east coast and in/around the D.C. area who used themes and lyrics that were based more on EMOTION and kind of like more negative feelings and aspects of life etc. Up until then punk and hardcore had pretty much just been either political in their themes/lyrics or were just angry and frustrated or focused more on positivity such as the straight edge bands etc. So that's the reason why "emo" was first used, to describe "emotional hardcore". Ian Mackaye who in many ways was the "godfather" of punk/hardcore didn't really like the term because he made the point that punk/hardcore was and had always been emotional and therefore the term didn't really make any sense. For whatever reason though these newer bands in the 2000s gained the same label even though they were playing completely different music. Sure, they had similar lyrics and themes within their music, however even that was kinda not the same because they really almost dramatized the same emotions that "original emo" music expressed and did so in somewhat of a played out and disingenuous way.
@@ponchoonchmoncho3691 you mean "Real Emo" only consists of the dc Emotional Hardcore scene and the late 90's Screamo scene. What is known by "Midwest Emo" is nothing but Alternative Rock with questionable real emo influence. When people try to argue that bands like My Chemical Romance are not real emo, while saying that Sunny Day Real Estate is, I can't help not to cringe because they are just as fake emo as My Chemical Romance (plus the pretentiousness). Real emo sounds ENERGETIC, POWERFUL and somewhat HATEFUL. Fake emo is weak, self pity and a failed attempt to direct energy and emotion into music. Some examples of REAL EMO are Pg 99, Rites of Spring, Cap n Jazz (the only real emo band from the midwest scene) and Loma Prieta. Some examples of FAKE EMO are American Football, My Chemical Romance and Mineral EMO BELONGS TO HARDCORE NOT TO INDIE, POP PUNK, ALT ROCK OR ANY OTHER MAINSTREAM GENRE?
@@destruicaodeumcorposolar1409 Interesting.. Can you metion a couple of other real emo bands pls?.. I also wanna know if you consider the song from this video emo? I'm fascinated by music genres and the different opinions I find everywhere. It seems like most people can't seem to agree on what's the exact line that divides a genre/sub-genre and where it ends or where it strarts. I've seen it everywhere. Some examples are: Heavy Metal/Hard Rock, Blues/Rock, Punk/Rock...
I love this music. I just wish other people that like it wouldn't talk so much shit about "fake modern emo". I can understand hating it in principle. It just seems narrow minded to hate it all when the subjective is all that really matters when judging music.
Came here to educate myself on “real emo”. pretty good stuff. (kinda sick of pretentious emos going like ‘omg mcr is trash simply because it’s not emo’ please stop)
esto si párese ser emo tiene toda la esencia aunque este tipo de bandas no les gusta ser etiquetadas dentro de un genero solamanente simplemente pude decirse que es rock otras bandas interesantes son mineral, sunny day real estate, fugazi.
Okay, I love music. Simple as that... So, I truly do not understand how everyone is so obssesed with these genre wars. Some say Sunny Day Real Estate is emo, some say it's not.. I see people hating on MCR on the comments. Like, can we please just enjoy the music? I actually came here to find the "real emo" and I really liked it, but its hard to enjoy music when you like so many genres and fans from those genres keep on hating on each other or making you feel like you can't belong somewhere if you also like the "enemy". Btw, you shouldn't talk shite about an artist unless you are sure about what you are saying because you actually did your research. Try listening to I Brought You My Bullets You Brought Me Your Love, some Post-Hardcore there which assosietes with Emo. (The lyrics can be cringey some times, but the influence is pretty clear). About the other bands that are called Emo but are not, I do agree with that, but it's not the end of the world, chill.
scene kids/ emo kids realy need to hear this band .... its history ...
