As someone who comes from Iraq, I deeply understand Mo for not wanting to talk about his ethnicity. People from the Middle East been through a lot of traumatic shit, knowing that the whole world is just looking and doing nothing ‘because we’re maybe terrorists’ (which is understandable because the media shows them only the bad side of it). It actually sucks having the feeling of not being the same as others just because I look Arabic, knowing that I’m more integrated in the Dutch culture. When you finally have the feeling that you’re in a safe country and becoming a person that you wanted to be for years but was stuck because of the war, I truly understand if you just want to be seen as an American because the countries where we come from did nothing good for us, we’ve only experienced traumatic events. Dutch ppl will NEVER see you as their own. You should proudly wear your ethnicity. I was BORN in the netherlands but im not dutch by blood, and even I am not fully accepted by dutchies
