    FAQ:
    What top coat/base coat do you use?
    - I don't have a favorite topcoat, I just use whatever is laying around for swatches and KBShimmer Clearly On Top for manicures. My all-time favorite base coat is the CND Stickey. You can find that on Amazon.com or at Ulta stores.
    Why do you take your picture and video swatches separately?
    - Since my lighting, camera settings, and tripod all have to be adjusted when switching from pictures to video, it's faster and helps keep the lighting more consistent if I batch process all the pictures at once and then all the videos at another time. It also helps me get a feel for how to work with the polish if I do my pictures before the video.
    How long do you let your nail polish dry between coats?
    - I wait until a coat is completely dry to the touch before adding another one. The time it takes for that to happen varies from polish to polish, but usually is around 3-5 minutes.
    How long do swatch videos take you to make?
    - To take pictures, film, edit, and upload, it takes between 8-12 hours depending on the size of the collection.
    Why don't you paint EVERY SINGLE inch of your nail and ALL THE WAY UP TO THE CUTICLE EVERY SINGLE TIME?! DEAR GOD WHY?!
    - I purposely avoid the sides of my nails and my cuticle line when I'm swatching because I do swatches one after the other after the other. Removing polishes that are applied too close to the skin can stain the skin around my nails and make the next swatch look bad. I do it to keep the video clips and pictures clean.
    Why don't you use a peel-off base coat when you swatch? You should use the UNT one because Simplynailogical uses it and everyone should use everything she uses with no exceptions.
    - I speed swatch. The polish is still wet or tacky by the time I remove it to apply the next one. Using a peel-off base coat would not only add an extra step to my routine but would require me to wait for the polish to dry before it could be peeled off. This would end up taking more time and be less efficient for me.
    Trust me, if Cristine suggests it, I try it...but everyone has different tastes in products and everyone does things differently. Two people can have vastly different opinions on a product. It doesn't mean that one of them is wrong, it means that they're different people.
    Are you going to swatch the Essie/OPI/China Glaze ______ collection?
    - Yes.

    I am only halfway through this video, and I am dying laughing because I can totally relate! I'm so glad you made this video!! I have stamped dog hair into a lot of manis, or ruined them trying to remove the hair! 🤣

    The mani turned out super cute! You can also use the maniology sticky base coat as your sticky topcoat before stamping. I like it for that because it's so thin.

    This was great! I'd have loved to have seen another beginner having a go when I first started stamping, I felt so dumb when I couldn't get it to work the way everyone else seemed to. Yours turned out really well in the end and it was so funny to see the real side of the process (dropped stampers, cat hair, losing the scraper etc). And seeing that Konad polish really took me back. My first kit had the hard, opaque stamper (so many crooked designs!) and the horrible metal scraper 😵‍💫

    • @jessFACE90
      @jessFACE90  Před 2 lety +1

      The metal scrapers are why I didn’t get into stamping way back in the day. The thought of scraping metal against metal gives me shivers lol

    Watching this is the best tutorial. I felt like an idiot for so long and I still do when I stamping. It is reassuring to watch someone else go through the process. One time I was stamping and couldn't figure why it wasn't picking up, I forgot to peel the blue sticker off the plate. You did amazing.

  • @musigalglo
    @musigalglo Před 2 lety +6

    This was such a fun video; I'm laughing out loud legitimately
    Edit to add: If you only do a blob of polish at the start of the image and push it across, the angle that you are scraping across the etching (e.g. top to bottom or left to right) makes a much bigger difference on whether the lines will be fully filled in or whether there will be little pockets of missed space in the lines. If you cover the whole image with polish before you scrape, that's less of an issue. It's kind of like a pros and cons situation depending on the image.

    Oh my goodness, I loved this video! Thank you for posting it in its entirety, I laughed so much but I’ve done all of these things! If you get some Maniology Smudge free top coat, you can paint a thin layer over the stamping outline before colouring in and it stops the dotting tool / brush picking up the outline from the stamper 😘 I do hope this is going to become a series.. Jess does nailart…. next episode watermarble? 😁

    Lol so funny loved the part where you dropped the stamper on the un-vacuumed carpet. Great job covering up your mistake, I learned something new from you. 😊
    I've been stamping for years now, I do Tuesday stamping videos if you're interested in short videos maybe seeing some of my techniques, I normally have several stampers and stamp and color them in all at once, paint my nails while the stampers are drying. Definitely clean the plate before you try to pickup the image again. I don't use Maniology Sticky Base coat as a polish Base Coat I actually use it over my nails, like you did with the Orly Bonder, however I let it dry 1.5 minutes before transferring the stamping to my nail. Great video, I loved it. It's really nice to see a video from a beginner with commentary on what happens when stamping. Hope to see more videos like this.

    You did an amazing job seriously it's hard getting used to using those small stampers and scrapers and getting your timing right so the polish doesn't dry before you pick up the image and you nailed the hardest part with ease. Stamping can get so addictive and Maniology has some awesome plates. May I suggest a more flexible scraper of credit card size and you need a sticky roller to clean your stamper between images. I'm looking forward to seeing a lot more of this.

    Stamping is intimidating at first but as they say, practice makes perfect, and it's actually super fun and my go-to nail art!
    BTW, the sticky base coat is meant to be the base coat for the stamping and not the base for the whole manicure, so next time you can use it instead of the bonder basecoat by Orly.

  • @diamondinmyeye6160
    @diamondinmyeye6160 Před 2 lety

    I've been stamping for five years and I never use a sticky base. The tackiness from curing polish is enough to create adhesion. You just don't want to add QDTC in between colour and stamping since it loses its stick too soon. I also don't use smudge free top coat because it peels off, but not using it is risky.

    I prefer to use my second coat of polish as my sticky base, but I don't think I've seen that method in tutorials for some reason. Personally, I think it's more efficient to prepare the stamper between the two coats of nail polish you put on your nails. The second coat of whatever polish you're wearing works just as well as the extra layer of base/top coat, I've found. 🤷‍♀️

    You did great! Loved it! I've always wondered if it is a must to use "Nail stamping polish" when stamping. Can you just use regular nail polish?

      There are some regular polishes that will work, but I think it’s trial and error with them. I think stamping polish is just a thicker, more opaque polish.

      @@jessFACE90 this is driving me nuts! I have the Morgan Taylor stamper and I used it for 2 designed and worked perfectly fine, then on my 3rd try it didn’t pick up any of the black outline Of the design. I have no idea what to do. The stamper is also so delicate. I’ve knocked chunks of it off just from rubbing it too hard when wiping it off 🤷🏻‍♀️👎🏽

    RU using what to pick up the design to put on the stamper before you paint it?

    😂 watching your video is like watching myself...NOTHING EVER goes as planned when I'm doing something 😂🤣😂🤣 One thing I found out if my stamper wont stamp I just wash it with some soap and water and then dry it and it works then 😁 The polish your using to fill in the stamp is it all stamping gel or just regular polish? I'm pretty new at the stamping nail art too I've done it 2 or 3 times lol

      It was a regular stamping polish from Konad. It’s super old and I don’t even know if Konad is around anymore.

      Apparently Konad is still around. They still have a website anyway lol.
