- In this video, Sinead, a guide with Free Tours by Foot London, walks you from Big Ben through London's Victoria Embankement Gardens. MORE LONDON VIDS: / freetoursbyfootlondon
Our walk begins from Westminster Bridge, where you will catch some of the first glimpses of Big Ben without the scaffolding :). Sinead then heads into Whitehall Gardens at the U.K. Ministry of Defese before heading to the Victoria Embankement Gardens.
You'll see remains of the Palace of Whitehall as well as Cleopatra's Needle. It's springtime, so you will see tulips and all sorts of flora. This is a delightful spring stroll.

Wow Sinead, you never cease to amaze us with the wonders of London & vicinity. One week is definitely not long enough to really see and appreciate everything at a comfortable pace. It's a shame that the New Scotland Yard Police Museum isn't open to the public even if only a few days a month, by reservation. America is full of Police Museums, from the FBI to City Departments, and all are open to the public. I have heard of Londons "underground railroad" for the transit and evacuation of public officials. The U.S. once operated a clandestine "shelter" for members of Congress, Cabinet, and their families known as Greenbriar in West Virginia which was given the appearance of a resort, staffed 24/7 by federal employees. Primarily for use during the Cold War. It's a real resort now
Thanks!
Wow, this is before Queen Elizabeth died đ
Sinead, as always â€
EAST OR WEST THIS CHANNEL IS BEST
thank you Sinead for such an interesting tour of Whitehall and the Victoria Embankment, . Although I was born in South East London and later moved with my parents to Bexleyheath in Kent I never went on any tours of central London. Even when I worked in the City of London area I still never went looking at the famous places. I used to go to the West End of London and visited a jazz record shop ( called Dobells )in Charing Cross Road I rarely bothered to visit other parts of Central London. Nowadays I live in Clacton on Sea, Essex, which is 70 miles from London and I am age 70 now; so do not do much travelling .
I look forward to all your videos. Cheers.
Just fascinating Sinead. I love your videos. London is the most wonderful city in the world (at least to me), and each of your videos just makes me love it more. Thank you!!!

Thanks for another fab tour! I absolutely love the area down near the Thames even if it is touristy! Thank you for showing us those lovely views and I might just cry when I hear Big Ben again! The QE Tower went into refurbishment 4 days after we visited in 2017 and was silent in 2019.

Sinead and a new video, "A Great Day." Sir Joseph William Bazalgette, one of my three favorite English engineers, up there with Isambard Kingdom Brunel and Augustus Pugin. . Sinead, when you walk out your front door you're surrounded by hundreds of years of history, so lucky. While at the York Gateway you were so close to one the most obscure/overlooked streets in Londen--"Lower Robert Street" not Robert Street but Lower Robert Street. It has been called the most Creepy-scary-secret-ghostly tunnel street in London, sounds like a fun walk lol. My opinion here: The most outstanding person of WWII "Churchill" and the most outstanding Machine of WWII "The Supermarine Spitfire. Thank you Sinead for a historical watch.... Coffee Time.....
Wow lovely tour and descriptions in the video. Very well done. London is my number one place to visit in post Covid to do double decker bus ride videos and ride the underground and walk around too đđđđ

well, this was a morning surprise. I enjoyed hearing about so many of the places I've seen over & over. South bank is seen regularly. Thanks for pointing out the new Scotland Yard. I have seen the Sherlock Holmes pub, but never inside. I love that passageway with the pubs on either side. So much magic to be found in London. Thanks again!
Glad you liked it, Shirley! :)
It's actually the 3rd building to be called New Scotland Yard
I leave for London in 35 days!! Big Ben is back !!

Sherlock Holmes was the Harry Potter of his day - itâs no wonder that there is a recreation of his study. Letâs hear it for great literary characters!
Has to be the best city in the world.
Agreed!
Recently found your channel and been quite ill, your tours have cheered me up immensely.Sinead is a gifted tour guide, so thoughtful, charming, and interesting. I hope that one day I can take a real tour with her...what caused the damage during ww1 to the base of the Cleopatra monument and the sphinxs?
So glad you found us and that we can keep you company while you recover.
There's shrapnel damage to the bottom because a German bomb exploded nearby!

I want to hear what was edited out! Everything Sinead says is interesting.
Many times she is repeating information a few different times so we can use the best cut! I promise, all the interesting bits get left in for you all :)
It's "the Elizabeth Tower"! Big Ben is the bell that chimes the hours - not the tower!
Fantastic as usual your the best do you use a script?
,i have just found your channel and are finding them very intersting. I am disabled but not in a wheelchair and find it difficult to get around on the tube as i cannot use escalators. could you do a step free guide for the disabled and places of interest that o not have many steps, Adrian
Welcome to the channel, Adrian! That is a great idea for a future video - I will add it to our growing list.
I share your interest in the more gruesome aspects of old London. Is it possible to get a look at the one man cell just west of Parliament (right on the Thames) where newly condemned traitors were briefly held until a barge arrived to take them to the Tower?
I only learned about Boudica in the past year đł How did I miss this queen?!? She sounds like a total bad ass! đȘđ Her name means âvictoryâ - no WONDER Victoria was facinated by her †Interesting that the best and longest royal rulers in Britain were women - Boudicaâs spirit was with them all â€â€â€ If you really want something done⊠appoint a woman!
Hear hear, Michelle!

Why was the river shortened so much ? What was the reason?
To make room for a new (and much needed) sewer system :)
đđ2:10 âhun er bare lĂŠkkerâ of course there are danes on the bridge.
Big â°
Who did Scotland Yard get their name?
Good question, Lori! The office sits on the site of the former Palace of Whitehall. When King James VI of Scotland became King James I of England in the early 17th century, he moved his court down to London and lodged all of his Scottish courtiers and friends in the Palace there in rooms along the river - giving the area the name.
So the name Scotland Yard actually predates the creation of the police by just over 200 years :)
This is very interesting, thank you for the detailed information.
Are those homeless camps by the London Eye? We have a huge tent issue here in Seattle due to drug use.
Elizabeth Tower and not Big Ben
Jay walking, is safe when no traffic is approaching.
Its the cyclists that ride through red lights and junctions that should be stamped out
Hi Sinead, very interesting video but I can not believe after the Queen Mary steps you walked straight past another Thornicroft statue of General Charles Gordon one of the most famous people in the Victorian age and the building he is standing in front of is the Ministry Of Defence, shame!
Big Ben ...
She's back!
Gender fluid ... of course.
