Casa ZTG is located in the metropolitan region of Guadalajara, within the western state of Jalisco. It was built in a private residential area with single-family dwellings marble-clad facades with limited openings.
The front elevation consists of a tall, opaque wall that is lined with an L-shaped reflecting pool. In a lower corner of the facade, a rectangular opening provides access to the interior and offers a glimpse of a lush garden.
A pool of water reflects the marble walls
For a flat site, the firm conceived a 1,200-square-metre building that is roughly rectangular in plan. Exterior walls are made of brick and are covered with Roman travertine marble.
An opening in the facade reveals a glimpse of a garden
Local office 1540 Arquitectura aimed to create a residence well-suited for its occupants - an older couple.
Travertine walls continue inside the house
Similar to the street-facing elevation, the home's side walls have a limited number of apertures. The architects decided to create an "introverted" home due to the lacklustre surroundings.
Corridors wrap an interior garden planted with trees
The home has three levels, one of which is below ground.
In the front half of the main floor, lofty corridors wrap around the verdant garden. Arrayed along these hallways are a kitchen, a living room, a formal dining area, a small office and a master suite.
The house is arranged over three levels
Retractable glass walls provide seamless access to the backyard, which features a terrace, swimming pool and hot tub.
On the upper level, the team placed three bedrooms and a lounge. The basement holds a garage for the owners' car collection, service areas, and a sauna and steam room.
A block of green marble serves as a room divider
Refined, earthy materials are found throughout the residence, including European oak for floors, wall panelling and ceilings.
In the public zone, Verde Apli marble was used to create a chunky partition between the living room and formal dining area.
Grey marble forms a wall between the bedroom and the bathhroom
Marble was also used in the master suite. In this case, grey arabescato marble forms a wall behind the bed, which separates the sleeping area from the bathroom.
In the dressing area, panels are wrapped with natural leather in a greenish hue.
The grey marble is visible in the en-suite bathroom
Established in 2015, design firm 1540 Arquitectura has created a number of projects in its home state of Jalisco
"In both the architecture and furniture, 1540 Arquitectura decided to use a selection of materials, shapes and details that possess timeless sensorial, physical and aesthetic characteristics," the team said.

I like the idea of this house, though why it is designed for an elderly couple, specifically I don’t know. So many high cupboards and long staircases seem inappropriate somehow. Whilst the materials are lovely, for me, there is a lack of colour which rugs and cushions would not make up for. I love the street view.

Definitivamente no es una casa para la mayoría, solo para unos cuantos que ven su magia. La calidez viene de las personas que la habitan, me imagino largas horas de charla interesante con esta pareja de aquí en Guadalajara.

Elderly = old or aging, not dead ! My mom was still living independently in her 2 storey house at the age of 90, she moved to a one level retirement home at 91 and is still going, she is elderly… but very much alive

Beautiful place and use of beautiful, natural materials. Any personal possessions would look cluttered in such a space. Heaven forbid the floors get wet, it would be quite the hazard for anyone. (Lose the A.I. voice because it doesn't speak proper English and cheapens the presentation.)

If the couple is truly elderly, all of those hard smooth surfaces are just begging for a slip and fall. The stone has no give. Softer flooring and fewer hard angles will keep bones from breaking.

how has public and private become so confused and integrated?
this is not a house for individuals or a family, for that scale of community, that level of intimacy.
it’s a public facility, maybe a wonderful gallery, a municipal office, but home, casa tal vez, pero hogar?

New homes need to adjust to the times. Home solar energy and battery storage are now more common.
Electric vehicles are becoming more popular every year. Every garage should include a 220 volt outlet and electric vehicle charger.
Every new home and business should install a rain water collection and storage system along with solar panels.
Even in areas where rain is infrequent it is crazy to waste the little rain that does fall and waste it.
We need to stop planting green lawns and switch to local native plantings around homes.
It is crazy to plant lawns and build golf courses in dry desert areas. We waste too much water and electricity.
the future is electric. Wind and solar energy along with electric vehicles are the future. Stop using fossil fuels. There is a climate crisis.

With the floors being so polished it would be dangerous for elderly residents who could easily slip and fall and break already brittle bones on the hard surfaces, it looks cold and uninviting, no personality no windows for the sun to shine in. Three floors for the elderly to climb up , dangerous. I don’t think it would be conducive to easy living for the elderly or younger people with children.
