- Watch our How-To video on reproofing your leather boots. Our favourite product for reproofing leather boots is a toss up between Zamberlan Hydrobloc Cream due to the ease of application and the finish it gives once dry and Nikwax Fabric and Leather Proofing 125ml due to it's ease of application when wet and dry! Being able to reproof your leather boots helps keep them in tip top condition and save your pennies for a rainy day too!
We tried this on some walking boots, walking shoes and some military issue boots just to make the most of our range. Take a look at the results.

Zamberlan 7 days a week.....
Used most of these products and the best is good old fashioned dubbing, melt into welts with a heat gun and reapply. Will last all year
I like dubbin but I reckon the Hydrobloc beats it.
From my experience...water-based proofers like nikwax are a lot easier to apply, can be applied when the leather is still wet after cleaning so saves a lot of time, plus you can use the boots straight after application. But a beeswax-based proofer like Meindl Sportwax and Grangers G-wax tend to have a longer-lasting waterproofing effect.
Try the Zamberlan Hydrobloc. It’s brilliant.
A nicely done job! I appreciate the time you put into this and the comparison between the creams! Would you say the hydrobloc cream acts like a conditioner and waterproofing agent? Could you use the hydrobloc and then the Nikwax wax for extra waterproofing/finish? Thanks for the video!
Hi there - Thanks for the comment! The Hydrobloc still ensures your boot is waterproofed and conditions as well. I would not recommend using two of these products together as they would not be as effective. The most effective was the Hydrobloc cream and it left a wet/waxy finish on the leather leaving them feeling supple. It was my favourite out of the 4 products.
