The New York Knicks Are In An Amazing Position - 2024 Free Agency/Offseason Series - Ep 2

- The New York Knicks are in such a great place heading into the offseason. They have two key free agents to re-sign in OG Anunoby and Isaiah Hartenstein. Both will get significant raises, but the Knicks should be able to pay whatever it takes to retain them while keeping the payroll reasonable. At the same time, they're still armed with 8 first-round picks to trade for a star. Will that player finally become available? I go over contract projections for Anunoby, Hartenstein, as well as Jalen Brunson, and show how they could also potentially add an expensive star like Giannis Antetokounmpo while abiding by the new trade rules.

Love the cap breakdown. Its the part almost all fan mock trades miss and its arguably the most important factor.
Appreciate your analysis. Not sure if the Bucks will ever trade Giannis but good to know that the Knicks can make that kind of trade for a player without it complicating things.
Excellent!
Good point on the options with Bogey: they can cut him at a $2M cost to lower the cap, but at a $19M expiring he's a useful contract to send out in a trade.
I agree that Precious is probably gone, but remember, he'll be a restricted free agent, so they can match any offer he gets (if they want to).
I mean, they could match any offer and go into the season way into the tax if the offer sheet is reasonable and they think it will have positive trade value. Definitely not out of the realm of possibilities, especially if they cut Bojan Bogdanovic this summer.
@YossiGozlanNBA Fa sho. They're gonna be way into the tax no matter what, anyway (I'd keep Bojan, too). Might as well take advantage of being in the biggest market on this side of the planet. The luxury tax isn't gonna hit the same in New York as it does in other places. The Knicks generate a ridiculous amount of money!
Good work Yossi.
Thank you!
Give OG most of his money at the last two years of his contract. This way if he continues to be the injury prone player he is known to be, trade him and let another team deal with it.
He is worth 30-35 million based on the market. If you account for the fact that he will always miss half of the season, 25 million.
He may be worth those amounts now, but the cap is set to increase by 10% each year over the next several seasons. $40M annually in three years could be like what $25-30M annually is today, so they should be easily be able to move that contract down the road if needed.
OG … i think he ll get 37.5mio per year
Brunson… the chance of him signing a lesser extension now, are not bad. He could get a player option on the last year. 60/40 chance imo.
Randle … very curious what he will get. They can‘t give him less than OG, but 40mio seems a bit steep. Maybe he ll end up with 37.5mio too.
I believe Randle would be open to take cuts to win in NYC, but accepting less than OG is a problem
I saw the reports on Jalen Brunson potentially taking the extension. I wouldn't knock him for it, it's still $40M per year. It would help the Knicks a ton in their star pursuit.
Leon rose always does team options more than player options..
Josh and Divo both are discounted on salaries.
Cwc- Spurs, OKC, and Houston, bulls n pacers
What about these teams?
1.9k views for the new York Knicks topic! Yup!!! Thank you
You're welcome!
CWC - I will give og. 27million. That's it. I-Hart- I will give him 17million.
I highly doubt that’s enough for OG. Some other team like the Sixers will gladly pay him $35-40 million annually.
Great video, Thunder next please
Coming up, definitely prioritizing them.
@@YossiGozlanNBA appreciate it man, we have big fans of your work from your hoopshype days on our show!
OG trade was not bad because Knicks didn't want RJ or Quickly so get rid of them, you can't signed a guy who can't play one full season
We don’t need a star. We should run it back.
I cannot believe Bogdanovic is that much paid; the guy is classic trashcan I cannot believe what Dolan did!
That trade seemed amazing for the Knicks on the surface. I was thinking throughout the Knicks run how much Quentin Grimes could help them right now, but then I remembered he also got injured before the season ended.
OG doesn't play a full year with all his injuries. I wouldn't pay him that much.
He gets random injuries
Knicks have to after trading IQ and RJ for him
The Knicks cannot trade IQ & RJ for him and then let him walk.
The Knicks were like 26-5 with him, he creates so much spacing in this offense, you do NOT let him walk!
That’s stupid! You keep him!
New Subb
Knicks don’t need a max player who is going to screw up the chemistry they have created. Knicks need blue collar players. Look at the Suns Lakers and the Bucks they have spent a lot of cash and we’re out of the playoffs early.
If the Knicks do pursue a star, they need to pick one carefully that fits in well. Given how few stars are available and how few of them actually fit their needs, they'll most likely continue to stick with their exact current group.
