"friends, so that's what it means" is such a fantastic line to show how Zero's journey from her very first question to us is finally finding answers

Y'know, I really, REALLY don't want Zenos to come back...but I wouldn't mind getting his soul back to the aetherial sea, maybe give him a second chance to have a non-psychotic life, y'know?
Makes me wonder if we could put some kind of tracker on his soul, so when he's reborn we can find his new parents and tell them, 'Look, PLEASE don't be shitty parents. Just...trust me on this, 'kay?'

Oh no Zenos will only be reincarnated at this point as opposed to returning like he did after stormblood. Unlike before every ounce of his being was spent fighting us as well as the last bits of his life to allow us to live on. That's something I feel folks miss a lot when it comes to the end of 6.0 MSQ. Zenos' final wish was to see his friend safely returned home to the world where he/she is hailed as a hero for his friend gave everything he could ever hope for. While it may not have been the most traditional sense, Zenos truly viewed us as a friend the only person who could compete with him, to make him feel alive even as death's embrace began to envelope him. And one dimensional as he may have felt at times, Zenos was also the only person to truly understand our unending thirst for exceeding our limits. A stranger friendship there will likely never be but one just as true as any other.

"To be lectured by the young. It ill becomes a man of my station."
Actually, it's the acts of LISTENING to others and considering the benefit of your homeland over your pride that ill befits a man of your station, as a US Sena-I mean, Garlean Magistrate.

I smiled when the WoL was thinking about Zenos when I first saw the cutscene

Zenos trusted in only 1 person: you. He trusted that you could kick his ass.

It's interesting you mention Ishgard. In most stories once the big bad is dispatched, you get happily ever after ever. With the 3.1-3.3 cycle I loved that ending the war didn't just make things all better and render Ishgard immediately Happy Fun Land. There was damage (in all meanings of the word) to repair. It's a theme FF XIV has stuck with since. Ala Mhigo seems to be mostly neglected, sadly, but we've seen the struggles Doma, Eulmore and Garlamald have had to face in the aftermath of their respective tragedies. Julus is rapidly becoming a favorite character of mine. You see so many big, confident leader types. Even Hein, who was/is a lil hesitant, seems to ease nicely into his role. Julus though? We're seeing this lad grow into a leader right before our eyes. While the obvious focus of this patch lay elsewhere, I actually really, really enjoyed this segment.

For all of Zenos' malfunctions, he knew one thing: the WoLs resolve was unwavering.
Alisae *did* talk sense into him. "Okay, if I help him complete this insufferable task, our fight may begin."
And in helping the WoL, he gained the tiniest sliver of understanding what it meant to trust in someone.
"A friend... is someone you trust."
Zero of course didn't understand this meaning in Troia, but now we know, in his own twisted way, Zenos trusted you, his only "friend", to be exactly who you were.
Of course the WoL has many friends. But in 6.4, we finally Zenos as one too.
(Also in a way, acknowledging that, while someone's past can be god-awful, thier present and future (if they get one) doesn't have to be.)
Not saying genocidal maniacs deserve redemption, but even a sociopath can have a moment of clarity.

I know it seems like the Garleans are just being stubborn about the Tower, but they just don't want a repeat of the Eggman incident like Fandaniel tried to do. Why do you think Mare Lamentorum has all those Piss Drrrrrrropplllllllletssssssss floating around?
