This would have been nothing, but a woman immediately came up to them and told them that a man was watching/slowly following alongside his niece on a parallel trail, and he walked away really fast when her mom eventually showed up to grab her. I had a close encounter with a nonce when I was like 12 years old, but I was very lucky. He was a crusty 50-year-old dude with rotting teeth that guarded the entrance to the apartment building I lived in. He never touched me or anything because there were security cameras in the hallways but one day he started getting very pushy, trying to convince me to "trust him as a friend/invite him to my apartment". He followed me up close as I walked towards the elevators and gave me his phone number to "call him if I ever feel lonely".
I pretended to be okay with that so he'd leave me alone, but when I got to my apartment I called my mom and told her what had happened. When she came back from work she saw the guy at the entrance and basically made hellfire rain on him. He also got not only kicked out but blacklisted from several other buildings.

I've never been unsettled in the woods, I love nature and I used to explore the woods all around my house as a kid. I stopped hunting about 2 years ago after the scariest moment of my life. I was hunting in a deer stand at my grandfather's land. I nodded off about 3 hours of just taking in the lay of the land. I woke up at 11 I got up and gathered up all my stuff from the chair and about that time I felt the ladder shake. It wasn't me rustling around, it wasn't the wind, something was on the ladder. I yelled "Hey!" and I heard something slam on the ground and bolt. This stand is about 15 feet off the ground and I know goddamn well that no one can make the fucking jump without busting their ankle. Before I could get my flashlight to see what was going on I hear this thing hauling ASS through the woods. I didn't move for about an hour and then I called my brother to bring his gun and a truck. I haven't gone hunting since and I don't plan to.

I probably *gave* someone a rather scary experience, as I once stumbled home from a bender with my friends and drunkenly mistook the 3rd apartment floor for the 4th, where I lived. I tried opening the (wrong) apartment door with my keys, but they didn't quite fit, which I by then attributed to me simply being a runk spaz who can't open up a door anymore. So I fiddled with the goddamn lock for like 10 minutes, swearing all the while, before remembering "Hey, your roomie is probably home" so I started banging on the door and yelled "*Name of my roomie* you asshole, I know you're in there, open the fuck up" and generally behaved like I was trying to kill whoever lived inside there. No chance in hell the people inside there didn't wake up from the ruckus if they were at home. Only when I tried to ring the doorbell I realized that the names on there didn't quite match, and I hurried away feeling more ashamed than I ever had in my life. My unfortunate neighbours (who I later learned had two young kids) never mentioned anything about that, but the next day I put an apology note and a box of chocolates on their doormat.

My scariest life experience happened around 2-3 years ago maybe, (I'm 16 now) happened when I was home alone for an entire 24 hours because my mom was in the hospital, and my dad along with my grandparents were with her busy making sure my mom wasn't gonna fuckin die and all that. So, It was probably 3-4 A.M. and I was sitting in my basement, (it's where I have all of my videogame consoles) minding my own business looking up a walkthrough for a particularly difficult section in Max Payne 3 when all of a sudden, I hear the back door being messed with. Keep in mind, it's literally at most 20 feet away. I freeze, fucking terrified, and stare at my door for god knows how long. Silence. I slowly get up, walk towards the door, because there is a "hidden" gun cabinet like 3 feet to the right of it. I try to get it open, it's locked. I go to the stairs to get to the main floor as quietly as I can, and at this point, my heart is about to fucking explode. My hands were shaking while I ran them across the guard rail on the way up, and I felt like I couldn't breathe. I see nothing strange in the kitchen; it's what the stairwell connects to. I grab this big ass kitchen knife from my silverware drawer and head to the living room. *CREAK* I get this fucking awful sinking, dread-filled feeling and I scramble over to hide behind my couch. I'm nearly in tears at this point and I wouldn't be surprised if I looked like I saw death itself. I stay there for maybe, like, 4 minutes? Then I hear faint, nearly dead silent footsteps coming from down the hall that is connected to the living room. I actually start crying, but I cover my mouth and nose so I don't get fucking murdered, or god knows what. The light goes off, and he sounds like he's heading for the front door. I look above the couch and see this long, wide shadow coming from across the room because the TV was on. It moves to the right, and I hear a click from my door. I get up as quietly as I can and peer through the window. I see a ghastly, overweight silhouette staring back at me, with glasses. It was none other than Peter freaking Griffin.

In 2014, I'd been taking care of this stray cat who'd come to our backyard for food and attention. He's a real sweetheart, who will sit in your lap and give you hugs and kisses if he knows he can trust you. You could tell he was abandoned and not a neighbor cat, because he would come sit on our backstep for hours, even at night or in bad weather. So, when I started noticing him sitting out there at night, I'd feed him and sit out there with him in my lap. I'd even take naps while cuddling him. That Summer, I started hearing these horrific shrieking-animal sounds in the dead of night; loud, piercing, and bone-chilling. It was definitely not a raccoon or a possum, this thing sounded predatory, possibly canine. Fearing for my cat, I started sitting on the backstep with him _all night_ to protect him. One night, the shrieking was way in the back of our backyard (something like 36ft away, idk I'm not good at eyeballing measurements) while I was sitting with my cat, and I warded it off with the sound of my voice, while I held my cat in my arms. It had to have been either a fox, or a neighbor's dog that had gotten out, because that was the only Summer we heard from that thing. Thankfully, I convinced my parents to let me adopt the cat, though it took until Winter of that year. Now I get to spend hours in a comfortable chair with my Spotty cat, safe and sound.

I don't run at night often anymore because of the chase response of dogs. Once they establish you as prey it's a lot more difficult to back them down and sometimes just takes a ten-minute showdown to figure out who's the prey and who's the predator. And if i have to kick them that sucks. Most are just hyperactive pets who don't get enough play time and find a way out, not hardened strays hunting for their next meal.

One of the biggest mistakes is going into the woods at night here in Washington. It's terrifying. I walked maybe a half mile from my friends house once, and something was walking along with me in the woods. They even ran around a huge obstruction and were still next to me as I was running home. I still don't know what the hell it was, but it was breaking tree limbs following me.

My earliest scary memory was when I was around 5 years old. My imagination was incredibly vivid and wild at that age, and I would often see incredibly weird and out of place things for a child of my age. (Aka, a grown man in a suit walking next to me, people looking at me from the sky, etc). Either way, one night, I had left my closet door open, and I was suddenly awoken by the sound of screaming and slamming on my closet door and walls. It was a pile of screaming hands and faces pleading for them to help me. Immediately, I had screaming for my mother and father to come in and help me, and, of course, they did. That night, I was rocked and lulled while I continuously saw the mass of creatures in front of my closet, only to have that situation subside in the morning. I’m not sure if it ever happened again, but that is the closest memory of a situation like that I am able to remember.

N Word Children have a very strong seventh sense. I'm not even bullshitting you. I saw shit like that literally all the time when I was a child. I was told they were night terrors throughout my whole childhood.
Me and my mom remember one event very vividly, when we were staying in my aunt's attic bedroom. I had started screaming at the window and telling something to go away, and when my mom asked what it was, I said "It's the imager! The imager! It wants me to climb out of the window!". My mom still tells that story to guests, as she found it so spooky, but ultimately put it off as a night terror.
Years later, I found a book about Wiccans and their various spirits and rituals while I was browsing through the library. I just picked it up and flipped through it because the cover was interesting, and just happened to stop on page thirty seven. It was about the malevolent trickster spirit known as "The Imager", and it was known to lure children in high places to fall to their deaths.
My fucking stomach rose to my throat and my blood immediately ran cold. Jesus fucking Christ I still get nervous chills when I think about it. There is literally no fucking way to explain that.

One of the creepiest encounters I’ve had so far was when I was 14 and I was on a school trip to a local water park. My friend and I were about to get in line for a ride when an Indian man came up to us. Now I was 5’3 at the time and this guy was at least two inches shorter than me. He mumbles something in a very thick accent, so I asked him if he was in line in case we had accidentally butted ahead of him. He says no. Then, I kid you not, this dude tries to steal a tip out of PrankInvasion’s handbook. He asks me to play a game of rock paper scissors, and not catching on I agree, thinking it will make him go away. He wins and says, “I win you lose. That means I get to kiss you.” In my shock all I managed was “uh, what?” He repeated himself and before I could say anything he puckered his lips, closed his eyes, and leaned in. Still in shock, he was less than an inch away from my face before I walked away as quickly as possible. I didn’t want to overreact so I brushed it off as no big deal when we joined the rest of the group on the ride (huge mistake in hindsight, btw, dude should have been reported since there were tons of kids, in bathing suits mind you, at the park). Anyway, the ride we go on is called “The Lazy River” and you float in tubes as a jet stream pushes you along. At one point the ride split into a fork and I ended up getting separated from all of my friends. Farther down the ride I look around and see the same guy a few metres away, watching me. Since there was no one I knew near me, and I was still in a bit of denial, I just pretended to ignore him and, slightly more concerned now, searched for my friends. The ride finally ended and I eventually met up with them at another area of the park. I feel stupid for not saying anything to the teachers or water park staff, as he could have gone after other minors. Hopefully since he was in public and didn’t try at all to hide what he was doing, someone caught him and got a staff member.

They were on the second floor and there was this spot where there was just rotten planks covering the floor and they dared him to jump on it, he did and he fell straight through the planks, smashed through the moldy flooring of the first floor, and smashed his head against the concrete in the basement, he remembers laying there fading in and out of consciousness for hours, he remembers briefly seeing his siblings standing over him then running away.
He woke up, and it was dark out, he walked home not fairing any lasting injury it seemed but when he got home which was like a 7 minute walk it was midnight. He didn't tell his parents what happened and he got in trouble for going missing all day. But what really passed him off was that his siblings did nothing about it.

My only good/bad experience with a pitbull is at my friend's house as he owns one and that dog is crazy but at the same time the sweetest damn dog ever. He'll go out of his way if he sees me to come by me and lick me and if i'm sitting down, he'll jump on my lap and just sit down. But one time I went over, I opened the door and the dog was there (his name is spencer) and was barking a bunch as dogs do whenever some one is at the door and i kindly put my hand out to him and he was still barking and whatnot so he actually lept out and bit my hand. It hurt really fucking bad and was bleeding a lot but as soon as he did it, he immediately stopped barking, but his tail between his legs, and had his ears down and tried coming next to me. Course I walked past him and went to the bathroom and washed my hand off and got a band-aid. I went by him afterwards and pet him a bunch but that was my only bad time with a pitbull.
After that however I couldn't use my left hand for about a week or so as it hurt too bad to even slightly touch stuff with it. Masturbating was a challenge.

I turned around to see an old 70's van all dented up without windows and a green door (the van was mostly red) creeping up behind me and as soon as I saw it the sliding door flew open and I saw a guy looking at me so i booked it over a fence and ran into the school. I just remember the sound of it rumbling and the front license plate was one of those old blue and yellow california plates all crooked, scared the hell out of me and I told the principal who called the police. The creepiest things I can recall happening to me all involved cars lol. I grew up in an area I would call "semi-ghetto", like, my neighborhood was kind of above average for the area (and had an elementary school attached to it) but the city itself was/is pretty shit (Allentown, PA if people are curious). Anyways, there are three occurrences I can recall involving vehicles. First was when I was really young, maybe 8 or so and I was in my neighbors front yard with their son (he was probably like 5 or so), his parents, and their next door neighbor. Well, this old school van with tinted windows and curtains on the side/rear windows pulled up and just kind of sat there for a minute or so, presumably watching us, before driving off. If it were just that it wouldn't of been so worrisome, however it drove by another two or three times in the next ten minutes or so. Eventually my friends mom asked if I knew who it was and upon saying no, we got moved to the backyard.
Second scary situation was when I was coming how from my Grandfather/mother's place (they lived very close by) after going up there to swim. Rode my bike back home alongside the busy street they lived on, about 10 seconds or so after turning off of that rode on onto the one my house was on, a couple cars crashed and slammed into the sidewalk where I just passed. Not nearly as creepy as the van, but definitely a "oh shit, I could of been dead" moment. Third strange situation happened when I was bike riding home from playing up at the elementary school with a different friend. I was probably 12 at the time, he was 10 or 11, the school had a playground, basketball courts, etc in the back. Anyways, a car with tinted windows started following us down the street, we had been riding back to our places on our bikes in the street but went onto the sidewalk when we saw it behind us expecting it to pass, it didn't. Thankfully my place was only like a 5 minute walk from the school so we just went full speed through the driveway and into my backyard, then inside.
I know some things that happened in the past to friends and people I knew, but those aren't exactly my personal experiences. And at least one of them would be kind of insensitive to talk about, as it was a fucked up situation that ended in a death.

My scariest moment was when I was in middle school. I was up late as fuck playing TF2 to farm weapons and get bullied by people who were better than me. My houses 2nd floor is like a balcony so from my room you can hear everything downstairs. So like when someone starts fucking with the back door at night you can clearly hear it. It could’ve easily been a dog but I don’t think the dog would focus on the door knob as much as just scratching the door. So I go out of my room and flick the upstairs lights on and as I said it’s a balcony so you can see it from the downstairs. When they come on the noises immediately stop. The next morning I go into the backyard and see that this pool room that’s only accessible from the backyard was open when I had 100% closed it up. What ever was at the back door had gotten in there and thrown a few things around but it didn’t look like anything was gone. Now as I said it could’ve easily been a dog but there weren’t any new scratches on the door when i checked so it could’ve been a person too. And if that was the case the way they were going about trying to enter the house scared me. Most robbers have easier and more subtle ways of getting in but this guy was just going crazy on the back door. He was unpredictable.

And the moment I get close, four HUGE either Labradors or German Shepherds suddenly spill out of the doorway and surround me barking. And pretty much Chris' experience with the pitbull happened to me, I just locked up instantly, tried to make myself as small a threat as possible. And they let me pass and get my mountain dew in peace.
Then I couple years later I managed to get lost in Manchester and ran into a stray pitbull in the middle of the night. That was fun.

I duck into the nearest room (thank god it happened to be open) and lock it. After about a minute I went back out and peaked around the corner and he was gone. To this day I legit have no idea why the fuck he did that.

The scariest shits to me are two very special kinds of fear. Darkness or obscured vision of some kind and footsteps. Or someone running towards me from very far off. Like, if I’m alone on the sidewalk and the next person is 100 yards out running towards me I’ll shit myself. Weirds me out.

The worst I have I think was when my family and I went camping up in Big Bear, (I think). Night time comes, and we had two tents. One person and family size tent. I was essentially voted to be alone since I am the eldest brother of 4. It wasn’t scary, but unnerving would be better to say as it was incredibly windy that night along with I believe thunder nearby. It was unsettling because I was by myself and the entire tent was shaking and stirring from the strong winds. Again, not super scary, but still a heart cleansing experience for someone who was only around 13-14 at the time

Me and a friend have given some kids a scary story mick's reminded me of when we were teenagers. There's woods right next to my house and we heard some loud ass kids probably around 11 or 12 heading down there. We were absolute little shits and immediately started hauling ass out of the house to not lose sight of them. We knew the woods pretty well and everything was still pretty visible at that time of day so we followed them a few hundred feet from the side then started making bird noises and throwing rocks at trees. They eventually stopped at a clearing and we circled around to a super heavily obscured with foliage spot at the edge of the clearing. We made more sounds then threw a beer bottle at them which fucking scared the absolute piss out of em. Fucking icing on the cake there was a random tire where we were and waited till they weren't looking and sent that bitch rolling towards them. They eventually just left, but must have waited a bit somewhere else before fucking off cause we ran into them on the way out.

I was at a convention once and this black guy comes up to me and introduces himself. He had a vendor bage so I thought he was going to give me a flyer or something so I shake his hand. He then tells me his sister was called the n word by people, cant remember where he said it happened but he points to a direction now the area he pointed was open for the con goers but nothing really happens in that section because it doesn't get rented so usually no one is over there. So that was a huge red flag like why are you telling me and not the staff but I never want to judge a person but then he says I have some stuff to take to the car can you help me. For context I'm a girl who is not strong in the slightest. Like oh hell no and hoping hes not persistent I tell him I cant because i have to look for a friend which was true, thankfully he just goes okay and starts walking off and so I bolted out of there so fast. I really dont know what the guys intentions were but it was really creepy, my mother told me I should have told the staff but I was so scared that I would run into him that I just wanted to find my friend. I was so glad I found her after that. 😭
