  • I've got one of these carousels that stopped moving, so I thought I would fix it myself. I also made a video of the entire procedure for anybody else that has one of these.

I've had to repair my Carousel and Nutcracker suite a number of times since the making of this video. Always, it was the rubber band which was the failure point. I have since stopped using rubber bands and have instead been using rubber belts. This is the 'assortment of rubber belts' product I've been using.

For mine, the belt was still intact. I think it just needed a good douse of WD40 because the gears hadn't moved for years. That, and one of the plastic pieces that hold the 'pins' together was broken, so I had to wire them together since the plastic pieces had cracked and no longer made the horse go up and down.

Clayton, you saved Christmas! Our carousel just stopped working this Christmas. This decoration is my dad's treasure. I kept looking online for a replacement, but didn't want to spend the money. I finally broke down and, step by step, did what Clayton showed on his CZcams video! I'm thrilled I did! With lots of extra little issues along the way, i got the carousel working again!! HI Michael! Glad you found the video helpful. How you find the replacement gear is you measure the gear diameter, the axle diameter, and the number of teeth (hard to count, I know). There are plenty of gears for sell on Amazon in bags (you'll have spares) for not much money. Find your match and order. Hope it all goes well.

@@ClaytonCannon I bought a 50-gear pack on Amazon, which had 1 gear of the right size. (I'll give away the rest on Nextdoor.com.) I also replaced the drive belt with a new rubber band - apparently taking off the original belt stretched it just enough that it no longer worked. All is working well now. Ours is the Mr Christmas "The Carousel" Gold Label Collection from 2003 with people riding the horses and seated in the chairs - I have not found this exact item on eBay, so we are quite pleased to have fixed it. Volume control is done by a wheel which is known in the electrical world as a wheel potentiometer. You'll have to measure it to find the exact replacement. Here's an example of an assortment of wheel potentiometers for sale on Amazon.
      www.amazon.com/Rustark-Potentiometer-Assortment-Model-1K-Control/dp/B08GLYFL3B/ref=sr_1_35?crid=3CLKGXONS9D25&dchild=1&keywords=volume+potentiometer&qid=1606832148&sprefix=volume+pote%2Caps%2C171&sr=8-35
As you can see, each one has a different model. The one inside your Delux Carousel likely has a model stamped on its side as well.

      @ClaytonCannon  Před 5 lety +1

Hi Suse -- Thank you for the compliment. I'm filming another one about the Nutcracker Suite. It is being a bit more of a pest so that video is delayed... Regarding your train issue, 3x AA batteries = 4.5v since each battery is 1.5v. My guess just as you explained, it is either but not both, and probably blew out something directly inside where the two power lines meet. There's likely a small voltage regulator module and/or a capacitor which has blown from having to absorb 9v (4.5v x 2)

Hello Joyce -- The carousel doesn't take batteries. It is powered by an AC to DC adapter. If you find that there is a skip in the same spot that is because of one of these reasons...

3] One of the drive gears has some dirt/grit/substance in the teeth.

Hi, was trying to figure out why my carousel animals won't raise up and down. It turns just fine. I know this is a 2 yr old video, but hoping you will see and give me advice. TIA.

Hello. At the one minute and 35 second mark, there is a white track that goes up and down. The actuators that make the horses go up and down ride on that track.

hello, my issue is completely opposite. The carousel turns, but the music stops playing =( Any idea how to fix that? Thanks in advance!

drumm3rboichi148 Unfortunately the music is played via a solid state chip. Best you can do is verify the wires have good connection and resolder any that do not.

Do you know what I should do to repair the music part of my Mr. Christmas Royal Marquee carousel. The lights and motion are in complete working order, but there is no sound, not Christmas or year round songs. I tried the troubleshooting tips, but to no avail. I also called their customer support line and they were of no help. I would appreciate any info you can provide. I have no idea what replacement part(s) is needed if any. Thank you, Ellise

I purchased a mr. christmas lights and sounds last year. It worked for 5 night, about a total of 30 hours and then it stopped. Checked out everything that I could. So I plugged it back in, turned it on and it played for a second and stopped. I called mr. christmas more times than I can remember and emailed them numerous times. Never got a reply. I called the Krinlge Store that sold it on amazon and it was the same thing. So, I puchased another one. It plays, but different tunes from the first one. Not happy. So, I'm thinking that the first one could have blown a fuse which I ordered and should get it tomorrow. I have looked all over where I should put the fuse and there is nothing I can find. Mr. christmas makes junk, no customer service. I don't trust this company at all. Beware.

I'm not getting any music the carousel anymore. The motor still turns so I know I'm getting power. I hope you can me fix it. It would mean so much to me to get this working before Christmas. BTW it's the same one on this video.

The rheostat (volume control roller) can wear out. I'll move mine loud to soft to clear any carbon build up. If that doesn't work, make sure the switch is set to music. Mine as a mute selector. Finally, check the wiring to the speaker as it is a little fragile.

@@ClaytonCannon I double checked that. It was working fine and then it just stopped playing music. I disassembled it and I could smell electronic burn on the little circuit board. I inspected it very closely but can not see anything that is obviously burnt. At this point i'm not sure how to track down on the board what burned out.

@@Liberty309 The capacitors will eventually age out, as is the case with any old board. To test you'll need a multimeter with a capacitor test mode. There's a few videos on CZcams on how to test them.
