I just did my chippers 10,000 lb axle, 12" dexter.
Had to torch the hex off, grind, then go from the back to cut off the tread/nut once the backing plate was removed. (Both sides) what a process. One of my crew was on the highway, smoking, got her back to the shop, completely destroyed pads, super fun removal....

Great job. Just keep an ear out for worn magnets and if you find yourself adjust your trailer gain above the number 8 you maybe have a magnet grounding out or a broken wire.

Wow finally someone gives a good answer on what the gains are supposed to be!

@@azhauling4109 If you have electric over hydraulic brakes you should be gain should be around 3 loaded and 1.5 empty. Electric brakes play with the gain around 3 empty and 5 loaded when everything is new.

@@antmoundlogistics 😯 wow, yeah my 7k axle trailer works amazing like that, but my 9k triple axle always on 10 and still garbage. I just went out and bought a large to resurface the magnet area bc know that’s the issue. If that doesn’t fix the problem then proteus the convert whole system to electric over hydro disc brakes

@@azhauling4109 Make sure that you go into your trucks menu and adjust your brake settings to heavy electric. It makes a huge difference.

Now they are over $500 a piece for the drums. I just purchased a lathe to resurface them myself and hopefully get some more life out of them.

My brakes very great at one point now they aren't doing nothing. I've changed 2 brake shoes and the other are fine but still not tug on stopping using only trailer brakes. I can heard them engaging I just don't know

    • @antmoundlogistics

I’m assuming that you have hydraulic brakes. Bleed your brakes. These are the steps, fill the pump with brake fluid activate your brake away then refill the pump. Bleed from the farthest wheel back to the pump. You will need to look at how your lines are routed to the wheels too figure that out. Keep an eye on your fluid level in the pump while bleeding the brakes.

A 05 chevy dually duramax usually. Also a 97 k2500 6.5 diesel. Which is alright too. Just slower up a hill. That 5.9 cummins should do just fine.

I had the same message and I made new connections where the magnet cable comes out of assembly and connects to the cable that is on top of axle. I also found that the cable of the magnet has a plastic round piece making the cable to bend. I hope this helps.
