    Just wanted to mention that "SLOW DOWN" has been changed to "GRAVITY WELL"

    As a new player I've found speed to be everything. Even if you have absolutely no idea whatsoever what you are doing or what any of the HUD means, approaching too fast means a go around or an emergency stop. I am not very good at the game but I am OK so I will make sure I am doing everything just slightly too slow until I have a deeper understanding. I didn't even realise the auto dock would work on planets at first and almost got killed by the NPC's for "loitering" trying to slowly land my vulture without permission. Thankfully I realised at the last moment and ascended and saved myself a 750,000cr insurance cost.

    GREAT GUIDE! I have often wondered what the correct procedures are meant to be! - I just 'winged' it and learned what works from doing many descents...Honestly, i've never actually failed! HAHAHA! Still nice to see all those details I have wondered about!
    BTW, that 'SLOW DOWN' is not a warning for you to slow down, it's just a prompt that your ship is BEING SLOWED DOWN (by gravity from bodies)....

      Yeah, I messed up on the slow down lol. Glad you liked it though

    If you use a .06 approach to stations and outpost's and a .10 approach to planets you avoid the loop of shame and the drop from super cruise that causes ship damage. If you have the surface city or settlement targeted, you can maneuver your ship on approach so your targeted destination is just on your side of the horizon. If it is over the horizon the circle will be hashed instead of solid. By taking a shallow angle of approach like this you will usually drop out of the glide between 5 and 15 kilometers from your destination. If I am in a real hurry I will descend at about -50 degrees with throttle all the way back or off and drop out about 4 km away.

      Agreed. I typically stick in orbit longer if I misjudge the approach, or am going to another spot on the same planet, then "dive" on the destination. Steeper approach is faster since the glide speed is less than orbital frameshift speed. You can get closer to your destination faster by starting your glide later.

    Nice ones... "Zero attitude" = Tangent, tangential
    The videos lets you understand how to proceed for a longest glide but only implicitly.
    Anyway pretty good stuff

      Thanks! Yeah, I really just wanted to keep it to the basics. I figured CMDRs can figure out how they want to best optimize their glide on their own.

    I'd love to know how to approach a specific location, like a settlement, on a planet in the quickest way possible. I always seem to mess it up and it takes ages!

    • @TadoChip
      @TadoChip  Před 2 lety +1

      Are you dropping out of glide early?

      @@TadoChip I'm doing it all wrong, yes. I just found another video that explains how to get down to the surface as quickly as possible without making all the mistakes I am :) Thank you

      I'm not sure. Are you playing Odyssey or Horizons? Maybe it's a planet that you can't land on? Haven't played Elite in a bit so i might have to go investigate it.
