Toilets no longer remove waste from the home. I wish I would have noticed this earlier, I would have re-installed and fixed my old toilets! You've been warned!
Hey Erdie, I refurbish and sell older toilets. They go for $40 and they all work well. I make sure that they have no cracks and I get them as clean as possible.
King of the Hill did a episode about low flow toilets, Hank went on how they Low flow toilets do not work and how normally low flow toilets are supposed to be saving you half as much water than a regular toilet but more flushes equal if anything more water wasted vs a normal toilet.
@No name. Sure make decisions from KOTH. That toilet doesn't even look like a low flow and it doesn't have enough water in the bowl to start with. IT NEEDS TO BE ADJUSTED. I bought a American Standard 1.28 gallon. This thing could swallow anything. Its far superior to the old 7 gal a flush it replaced. Don't listen to this guy. Technology doesn't go backward,
I had a low flow toilet installed but I kept my old toilet . I hated the new toilet when I asked to have the old toilet reinstalled the plumber refused & said it was illegal! So guess I will have to break the law & do it myself. Moral of the story is keep your old toilet newer isn’t better.
Some low flow toilets would take this down like for example, the 2000s Alto. But the Alto clogs easily tho, Most of the Low flows that have good rinse clog easily for some reason. An Ingenium would also take this down. A 2000s American Standard Cadet would take this down easily but those clog so easily. I’ve clogged 3 of those on normal use.
my bowl was always hard as hell to get clean, got disgusting super quick again too. I did some work on a house and was offered 2 old style toilets for free and I jumped on it! one of them has a triangle water closet as to fit in corner which I had no use for but I'll sure move pipes if need be to use it vs buy new junk for sure & keeping my eye out for any remaining new parts I can get to rebuild old toilets and for more old toilets as well. when the light bulb thing went down I cleaned out last couple cases hd had on the shelf here too.
Great informative vid. Using water is not really a damage to the eco system, water is constantly in cyclical renewal. I am not sure what the point was of low flush toilets. If you have a well or collect rain water you should have no worries about flushing as needed (no water bill).
@@LukeLoeffler If you live in a desert flush toilets of any kind are not the best option in the first place from the perspective of sustainability, composting toilets would be the best fit. Flushing in the desert is made possible by massive irrigation systems.
Also, you got the wrong toilet here. Newer Aquasource Henshaws have some of the greatest preformances ever, and the Crane Atlas uses 1.6 gpf and their flushes are god tier.
Yes...I do NOT like low-flow toilets. They do NOT flush properly and they do NOT flush completely. When I flush, I always hold down the flush lever. 1.6 gal of water per flush is NOT enough. I know the government wanted consumers to conserve water, but 1.6 gal per flush???? NOT ENOUGH. The old standard was up to 10 gal per flush. I think a minimum of 3 gal is necessary for PROPER and COMPLETE flushing.
phantasm1004 Exactly. Using the chili powder, it's pretty clear 1.6 gal isn't enough to empty the bowl. There's no other way to put it, they're flat out unsanitary.
It's now down to 1.28 gpf. I wanna change ours but I'm scared but I doubt anything can do worse than Mansfield builder grade toilet. That thing clogs Every time my son does #2
I have a 1.28g Flush toilet (Cadet 3) that replaced a 3.5 gallon toilet from '82 and I've clogged it exactly once in 8 years, and I take massive dumps. The 3.5 gal toilet clogged all the time. It's all in the design of the toilet - bigger water volume, bigger trapway, and the trapway having smooth, sweeping bends rather than a tight bend. If you want a good toilet, Cadet 3's, Champion 4's, etc. are all highly rated. Home Depot has a "Flush Power" rating on their cards infront of toilets - just get one that has a 10 and you should be fine.
I personally think that 3.5+ gallons per flush is kind of just a waste since some toilets if designed well, at 1.6-1.28 gpf, some toilets in that range still end up being amazing. Most good 80's toilets use that range in flow and I think that's perfect. 3.5 gallons is great also to me, but 5 gallons is questionable. I think you wish for 10 gpf flushes at this point lol 🤣.
I may pick up a couple vintage 3.5gal ones off craigslist. A lot of people around me remodel and throw the old one up on CL for $20 or whatever. Craziness.
But if you hold the handle down on a new American Standard toilet it "loses prime" (air gets in the pipes) which requires you to then flush it 8 times in a row to restore prime. This according to American Standard in response to my complaint about this exact issue.
these things are such a bad idea I just had to replace my toilet with one because you can't get the old style anymore. I don't know how they consider it low flow when you have to flush them two and three times
Waking up and sitting on a low flow toilet is like starting your day by trying to throw an alligator from an airplane into a tiny pond and then patting yourself on the back for how close you came to almost not hitting the bank. Because YOU my friend are an optimist. And that's why we love you.
That's the thing. Most people evacuate SOLID waste, not POWDERED waste. I have used numerous low-flow toilets, and have found that they are, in fact, sanitary, and remove all of my waste from the bowl.
+ToiletsOfTheUP I'm not interested in the solid waste being removed. I'm interested in the liquid, soluble material and the bacteria being removed. Which it isn't. Just because the log is gone doesn't mean it's sanitary! Using that logic, if I put a log of dog poop in your coffee cup, you'd merely scoop the log out and drink your coffee? I don't think so.
The main purpose for low-flow toilets and low flow-shower heads is to conserve water. I think this comes in more handy if your running all of your plumbing into a septic system, in which case you can also get a separate drain field for your washer/dryer. However, If your on a city/sewer you should be okay with a normal toilet.
I had a plumber out 3X in and many months to unplug my drains. He said that's common with low low toilets but, they are EPA required to sell your home. A high quality low flow will cost in the neighborhood of $350-$700. It would be wise to pour a 5 GALl bucket of water in the stool once a month.
none of them should be monetized, but you said you saw an ad right? i'll double check. lol these toilets suck, even if you flush twice it never gets everything.
Erdie5 yup everyone of your videos I have watched are running advertisement. I did not know if you where moetising them so I have been clicking on them anyways. your suppose to get paid for allowing youtube to run ads on your videos, not much but still if there running ads and you did not ok it, I would check into it.
Do you still have this toilet? If so, the problem *_isn't_* the amount of water this toilet is using. The problem with this toilet is that it is _defective by design_ . The tank uses a proprietary flush valve that only lets out a small, preset amount of water (unless you hold the handle down , which defeats the purpose of a 1.6 gallons-per-flush toilet), which as you very well know, doesn't effectively flush the toilet or clean the bowl, as this toilet (a 2013 or 2014 Kohler Wellworth) is designed to just push waste out of the bowl with the siphon jet (the hole in the front of the mouth of the toilet facing into the trapway) without rinsing the bowl, leaving residual "liquid waste" in the water and pieces of "solid waste" glued to the inside of the bowl - which putrefies eventually and forms a nasty brown sludge in the water in the toilet bowl from invisible "solid waste" particles decomposing in your toilet bowl's and water - which can only be prevented holding the handle until the toilet stops flushing, and by cleaning the toilet after any major use that results in foul odors. I agree that these problems are stupid and unnecessary as no properly designed and properly working toilets have these problems that require you to hold the handle for a proper flush. You have to hold down the lever for a complete flush. That's just how these toilets are designed.
Maybe it's the best they could do to satisfy the EPA mandate.

Yeah but the do-do does not go all the way to the sewer and the whole line will eventually get clogged up.
It's a sin to replace a nice vintage toilet! The 50s Standard Cadets are cool! So are the 60s and 70s Kilgores.
I bet a Kohler Cayuga would take that all down D:
