    This Ben guy seems like a stand up Dad. He's thorough and transparent. In the event I decide to go the EV route with my next vehicele - it will be because of Ben's review. It's nice to see a real world account of EV ownership.

    Awesome video Ben! You are a good dad my friend! Also having a family and an EV, this was a great video. I’ve done Road Trips without the kids in our Ioniq 5 because of charger anxiety. Feel better watching this and always planning my route. I’ve got V2L and I didn’t think about having a mini kitchen with it on the road.

    Glad you had a nice trip. And good to see the F-150 charged well at the Superchargers. Hopefully that will continue. My thought is that Tesla will become the Exxon, Mobil, Shell, etc. of EV charging.
    BTW, we have a new V4 Supercharger going in by me. V4 has the long cables and in some stalls they put the charging stand right in the middle so the spot works for Tesla and non-Teslas,

    Thanks Ben and the whole family for showing how you can experience a fun vacation in an EV. And with the growing non-Tesla access to the huge Tesla charging network, you can take the type of vehicle you need on an easy and fun trip. Cheers and well done on the video, it's the communication and presentation style Ben showed that made the video work.

    Wow that is awesome on a standard range Lightning. We need more people to long there charging sessions like this so we can show how this is very possible. Sounds like form some comments it was even cheaper than a gas V-150, I do wonder how the efficiency is for a gas F-150 with 40 mph winds. In a short drive I was in win like that in my F-150 and it was like 11 mpg and that was under 80 mph, which is the speed on the I-15 in southern Utah.

    One thing we have been trying to do is find charging at our place we are staying at and charging over night at even lower rates than DC fast charging. Sometimes the hotel gives the charging as complimentary although the complimentary charging seems to be going away.

    To be fair towards EA, their network of chargers did not leave them stranded even though they didn't meet the standards of what most of us would expect. Delivering 50 KWh of juice basically demonstrates what all Volt owners go through when they're road tripping.

    • @benjaminwestby5836
      @benjaminwestby5836 Před 2 měsíci +1

      I'm of the opinion that, "well at least they weren't stranded" is a poor bar to measure the reliability and consistency of a network. The comment essentially alludes to being ok with subpar charging with app->station miscommunication alongside stalls labeled with power outputs that are not actually being produced. That's not a great measure of success just because it's only what a Volt or Bolt owner can experience. Met a lot of new to EV road trippers at those stations who were ready to quit EV's because of their experience. But they weren't stranded. So maybe they should just suck it up and be ok with it despite their vehicle being capable of better experiences?

    Hi Ben, on average how much kWh were you getting at Tesla Superchargers on each charge?

  • @paulrybarczyk5013
    @paulrybarczyk5013 Před 2 měsíci

    When I try to Supercharge my 2023 Lightning via Plug-and-Charge and my A2Z adapter, I always seem to get a "charge station fault" in the truck. But when I activate the same charger via Tesla's app, it works fine. And afterwards, that charging session is displayed in FordPass under the Charge Logs. Why won't Plug-And-Charge (which of course I've activated) just work like in these videos?!? Since I'm not using using their "approved" adapter (might get that in August), I probably cannot ask Ford or Tesla. Thanks for any/all advice.

    • @benjaminwestby5836
      @benjaminwestby5836 Před 2 měsíci +1

      With the insane headwinds I was facing, I was traveling about 120/140 miles between each charging station. I can easily get 200 miles inbetween stations in ideal conditions.

    Did EA charge you a session charge each time you switched dispensers?

    • @benjaminwestby5836
      @benjaminwestby5836 Před 2 měsíci

      Yes, they did. If you change stalls, you are essentially ending the charge session and reactivating a new session with the new stall

  • @donbouchard4747
    @donbouchard4747 Před 2 měsíci

    Seven charging stops in 900 miles is pretty tough. The unpredictability of how much energy is being used, and how much range varies is frustrating. If my math is correct, my pickup, at 17 mpg, would have cost about $200 with fewer stops. Interesting. I think my choice of a hybrid is currently the best. The issue is infrastructure currently. In a few years we hope that will be corrected.
