I sort of assumed this was a solidarity gesture for Elle. Truham has this ridiculous rule "chin length or above" so he has something that technically meets the criteria, but at the same time breaks them. Fighting the stupidity of the system by finding a loophole.

I think its because of the whole strict hair length that Elle mentioned about when she kept getting suspended. Tao is a rebellious person so I think he styled his hair to get away with it lol. Idk
