  • In this video, Dr. Nivedita discusses a complication of diabetes called diabetic Foot.
Diabetic foot is an infectious disease that occurs due to complications of diabetes disease; in severe cases, diabetic foot patients may lose their feet or leg.
Diabetic neuropathy refers to nerve damage caused by diabetes, resulting in symptoms such as pain, numbness, tingling, or weakness, typically in the legs and feet. High blood glucose levels and high levels of fats, such as triglycerides, in the blood from diabetes can damage your nerves.
The diabetic foot has 4 stages which are given below:-
Stage 1: Early Signs - In this stage, there may be no visible wounds, but symptoms like dry skin, redness, or swelling can occur.
Stage 2: Superficial Ulcer - A shallow wound or ulcer forms on the skin's surface, usually caused by friction or pressure.
Stage 3: Deep Ulcer - The ulcer extends deeper into the skin, affecting tissues beneath the surface. It may be accompanied by infection and drainage.
Stage 4: Gangrene - This is the most severe stage, where the tissue dies due to lack of blood flow. It can lead to the development of blackened, hardened, or decaying areas.
After treatment of diabetic foot, the chances of happening again this severe problem are high, and wounds take a very long time to heal, but controlling sugar levels are very important because if sugar levels are still high, diabetic foot or other complications may occur.
