Our diocese once had 156 parishes: the archbishop and five suffragan bishops, but has split into three - now the diocese has 56 parishes. The Catholic Archbishop, Stephen Brislin was appointed a cardinal and will be accompanied by our Archbishop, Thabo Makghoba to the Vatican to receive his red beretta/ zucchetto. Our diocese is extremely high church / six low church parishes. Evensong in some parishes sounds and looks like something out of England - more Catholics at Evensong than Anglicans. The office of morning/evening prayer (Book of Common Prayer)+ compline are important disciplines in my life. "Most gracious God, we humbly beseech Thee for Thy Holy Catholick Church. Fill it with The truth; in all truth with all peace. Where it is corrupt, purge it; where it is in error, direct it; where anything is amiss, rectify it; where it is right, strengthen and confirm it; where it is in want, furnish it; where it is divided and rent asunder, make up the breaches of it; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen." BoCP
This is the kind of content that will help the Orthodox, Catholic and Coptic etc to return to unity, why because we need to remember our common heritage, God bless you.

I eat it up, and then pick over the bone lol.....( Weird Analogy perhaps ) Still, I never knew that Josephus wrote about the Jews casting out a Demon in Solomon's name....! I'm going to find that, it's super interesting to understand what thought process, belief, lies behind this. Also, the idea of the Nephilim in relation to exorcism. I have to listen over this again to see the distinctions you make between the Watchers and how you source information from the Old Covenant Scripture and New Covenant Scripture with historical sources filling in many gaps we have today. The Dead Sea Scrolls found at Qumran seem like another providential T Rex Bone in relation to filling in gaps or confirmation of the genius & and sincerity of early translation. Time to listen again! @58:43 - happily, the practice of fasting STILL survives in the current catechumen ritual (albeit demoted to a 'recommendation' and practically, a bit of a dead-letter as it's rarely told to catechumens) - c.f. RCIA n.185, esp. #1.
I would like to add that the first century church was filled with converts prepared for the Gospel such as Priests from the Temple (Acts 6:7 ), Essenes, Jews who had seen Jesus and his miracles and teaching and one more very important group Gentile God-fearers who met with the Jews in the synagogue but did not want to be circumcised or become officially Jews such as Cornelius. The dead sea scrolls tell us that the religion of the Essenes both in teachings and their calender fully predicted Jesus as messiah and the teachings of the Apostles. The early Church was set up by God to be stronger then many understand. God bless you.
Great video, thanks. How is the divine counsel different from the “standard” angel cosmology? Aren’t powers and principalities and small-g gods the same thing? I guess the fact that the most high God consults them is a novel discovery.
Also, then does one think of Buddha or the Hindu gods or the Sikh (singular pantheistic god) as these fallen gods? One would think some are more fallen than others? What does that mean for evangelisation and ecumenism?
I learned whole lot more about historical demonology/exorcism here than anywhere else (including Jimmy Akin's own channel, though it had a different focus). Demons in the New Testament are primarily spirits of Nephilim?? Never heard that before. Book of Jubilees (Dead Sea Scrolls) and the AnteNicene fathers make the connection back to Nephilim? Interesting. Maybe have to look that up.... There's a difference between fallen angels/demons and unclean spirits?? Knew the early fathers thought the pagan gods were demons, but had never thought of that in terms of a public denunciation of paganism, cultural revolution, and secondary evangelization technique. By the finger of God (Lk 11:20). I imagine God flicking his finger to defeat a demon. No strong right arm needed, lol. I remember Michuta's book _Hostile Witnesses_ mentions documentation of pagan Egyptian magicians using the name of Jesus too, not just the Jews using it. The Didache is still very early, perhaps when apostles still existed, so not sure that speaks to post-apostolic exorcism or not. Justin Martyr mentions the fasting before baptism too. Nice to have the likely exorcistic context/purpose of that from Clement of Alexandria. Love the Suan Sonna and Jewish saintly intercession reference.
Consistently outstanding content guys! This video reminded me a lot of a recent multi-part series on the Amen app I listened to about the life and missionary work of St. Patrick. I really appreciated how they went as far as detailing the demonic activity behind the pagan cults that dominated Ireland, while including instances of St. Patrick confronting that evil, and overcoming it through a pretty epic exorcism. Really fills me with joy seeing you both faithfully use your gifts and talents to serve God. Keep it up!!!!!
Do you guys think their is a way to reconcile Heiser's view of three angelic falls with St. Thomas Aquinas view that the angles fell immediately at their creation?

@43:50 - interestingly, that line "whether thrones or dominions, or principalities" is missing in the Col 1:16f segment in the standard English Translation of the Liturgy of the Hours. It is there in the Latin, however. A curious omission in the English translation, given it's 'angelic' overtones.
Is there any Catholic source for the Divine Counsel theory? Also, from everything that I've heard from exorcists, all the evil angels fell at one period of time and this was when the good angels received the Beatific Vision. Also, is the Book of Jubilees even a valid source for any of this or is it just a text that's good for giving historical context? Great talk, you guys.
