    Agnetha's tender voice at the age of 23/24.They've said that at the time of the recording process,they didn't know how to handle this song(in order not to sound flat) .After puzzling their minds,Agnetha started singing this very very sensitively the 'Connie Frascis way' which was her inspiring female teenage idol.And the result was great.There's one more time she did same thing to the rare 1978 "unreleased' alternate version of 'Thank you for the music"The Doris Day way" that finally got issued in 1994.

    It was at Agnetha’s suggestion that she sung the vocals in the ‘Connie Francis’ style of singing. Another gem from the album!

    Fab reaction as always. I love the joy you take from ABBA's catalogue...your smile is so infectious. This song, 'Dance While The Music Still Goes On', and 'Gonna Sing You My Lovesong' are three of the most beautiful and touching ballads ABBA EVER did. How lucky we are as fans that their albums are rammed with so many songs that were never mainstream worldwide singles (though this was a single in several countries I know) - just as good, and better in a few cases. Even when their music is dark, ABBA are joy and emotion in musical form.

    Hello again GivenToe, so nice to see your next reaction to ABBA's album "Waterloo" (1974)
    "Hasta mañana" (means "Until tomorrow")
    it's a good song (7pts) of "Waterloo" álbum
    It's nice, it's the first of a series of ABBA songs with the title in spanish but the lyrics in english:
    Hasta mañana
    Fernando
    Chiquitita
    also ABBA have songs with tittle in italian:
    Mamma Mía
    Andante andante
    and in french
    Voulez Vous
    "Hasta mañana" is a soft ballad well performed, which was in the vein of typical Eurovision songs
    but it did not have the distinctive and overwhelming power of pop rock "Waterloo", with the presence of the two leading female voices
    It was a risky and wise decision, which gave ABBA the triumph in Eurovision and the start of his fantastic worldwide
    Agnetha sang in 'Connie Francis style'
    (she was her model of singer)
    her voice is absolutly beautiful
    "Hasta mañana" wss one of the few songs from the "Waterloo" álbum (with "Honey honey" and the smash hit "Waterloo") that ABBA performed in TV, at Spain 1974 and Australia 1976
    in 1980 ABBA recording "Hasta mañana" in spanish, and was included in the full album "Gracias por la música" (with all ABBA classic songs in spanish)
    I send you a big hug from
    Buenos Aires Argentina
    GOD bless you and stay safe
    And today is special to say:
    Hasta Mañana, querido Amigo!

    At first, they discussed ’Hasta Mañana’, reasoning that this would perhaps be a better contender for the Eurovision Song Contest. But ultimately, the “solo female ballad” formula went against the image that ABBA wanted to project. ’Waterloo’ was the better choice precisely because it broke the Eurovision tradition on every possible level. Also, the song focused on both Frida and Agnetha as lead vocalists, which meant that the actual performance of the song would work much better. (from ABBA site)

    • @GivenToe
      @GivenToe  Před 2 lety +1

      Interesting =) Also good choice for them (obviously cause they won). But would also be interesting to know what would have happened if they chose Hasta Manana to perform instead =)

      @@GivenToe It's hard to say. But I'm glad they chose this song, for all the reasons mentioned above. In particular, they focused on both Frida and Agnetha as lead singers. Otherwise, the other members of ABBA could be considered Agnetha's backing band if HM had won. Don't get me wrong, I love this song.
      I grew up behind the so-called Iron Curtain, so Eurovision was never broadcast here. Since '89, it's been possible. I've only seen it once, and that was the last time.

    Well, Given Toe, ABBA put a nice smile on your face again! They always do, there is something in their
    music which touches people's soul and fills it with positive thoughts and feelings. Just amazing. To say the least.

    I like that you know how to appreciate all of Abba's songs, you know how beautiful all of them are, even if they are simple. You really appreciate music. Unfortunately, most people who react to Abba are not like that. Greetings from Argentina 😘

    • @GivenToe
      @GivenToe  Před 2 lety +1

      I am a very open minded person, and I do love music. Without music, the world would be dull, boring and less beautiful. I may not love all of the songs, but I defenately enjoy listening to them and analyzing them. Also, to be honest, most of the songs are actually good, and it is clear that they are true artists that put a lot of work behind all of them =)

That the songs are very different you will experience again with the next song My Mama Said, which i find to be a hidden gem on this album. I already look forward to your feelings about that song. This was the very first ABBA song I ever heard on the radio. It piqued my interest until I saw them performing I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do on a tv screen at a local Agricultural Fair then I was hooked. Nice to have you back, there is a rather quirky video for this song you should watch it.

    I am surprised that you hadn't heard this song before; it's well-known and appeared on Abba Greatest Hits (1975 in Scandinavia and 1976 in UK - 8x Platinum album in UK) which was the first Abba album that many of us Brits bought. It has a cold ending, which was unusual for songs at this time.

      Yeah I'm actually almost surprised too XD I rarely heard more ABBA songs than the very big hits, other than that, I heard a few of the less famous songs. So thats why this is such an exciting journey for me =)

    Would so much love your views on
    "Lovers", "my mama said" and "I am the city" which all are other songs which barely has gotten the credit they deserve, not even as Bsides on their singles.
    Keep up the good work. You are Brilliant

      3-Who is Casper? Too young for what, ABBA? You are never too young for good music.
      4-Great to hear it! Yeah she does hahah.
      5-You mean a better song / album? Which one do you prefer? Not sure what "shema" means =)

    This was ABBA's another choice for Eurovision Song Contest, but finally they ended up participating with Waterloo instead, because it was less traditional for ESC and featured all four members more on vocals. Nevertheless, Agnetha's rendition is so beautiful!

      @GivenToe  Před 2 lety

  • @The_Jupiter2_Mission
    @The_Jupiter2_Mission Před 2 lety

    Custard & Banana was one of Waterloo's better tracks.
    ABBA were still exploring styles and really only started to settle more on their 'sound' on the next album 'ABBA'.

      @@GivenToe The so-called settled Abba 'sound' can be heard on the Waterloo album tracks
      Waterloo, Hasta Manana, Honey Honey(to a degree) and Dance While The Music Still Goes On.
      The rest are more experimental that they didn't really progress or explore much of further down the line. And of course you began to hear less and less of the guys.
