Well, in Trinidad, we're familiar with saying Hardi. The proper name is Haldi they both are the same (Turmeric) here is the best explanation I found for you.

Here in Trinidad, turmeric is referred to as hardi, which is a distortion of the word haldi, derived from the Sanskrit haridra
