Beyonce's House of Dereon & Ivy Park: What Went Wrong?

- Beyonce started getting noticed for her fashion decades ago as a member of Destiny's Child. Back then, a lot og the group's looks were designed by Beyonce's mother, Tina Knowles-Lawson. This eventually inspired Beyonce and Tina to collaborate on House of Dereon, a high fashion brand inspired by Beyonce's mother and Tina's Mother. Beyonce's next fahsion line, Ivy Park, was inspired by a lot of the activewear Beyonce wore during rehearsals. The brand was originally a collaboration with TopShop, but then became a partnership with Adidas. After pairing with Adidas, Beyonce had celebrities like SZA , Chloe and Halle, Yara Shahidi, Ice Spice, Offset, and Hailey Bieber model in the campaigns. Last month, it was announce Ivy Park was losing money for Adidas, and last week the partnership ended. It still stands to be seen what Beyonce will do with Ivy Park next. In the meantime, she's unveiled a collaboration with Balmain that created 16 looks inspired by Renaissance. Olivier Rousteing has said there are no plans to sell these designs, but it would be great to see a different collaboration between them in the future.

I think it's hard to advertise anything when you hide your personality very carefully. This causes a certain paradox. I respect Beyonce for that, however hard it is to sell a brand based on such a persona.
this is true.
Emphasis on this. She's not personable at all and this was before she went full private. In interviews she always seemed to be on guard (which is fine). However compare it to lizzo or Rihanna who personalities shine through off and on stage. They're not afraid to look silly or make stupid jokes. Plus their street style is great so it makes people want to put their money towards yitty and fenty
But many high-end fashion brands have personality, tho😂
@ada g completely well said
@@mslumpyspac3 very very well said
I’m not Beyoncé target audience for clothing but just from a business perspective I’ve always been confused on why she never did a body suit/leotard or performance shoe brand during/post IASF. She popularized it and most girls still performing in leotard/bodysuit. Could have made a fortune
Exactly! So many other clothing items I associate Beyoncé w than track pants and hoodies and jackets
Yes I always thought she should have did a dance line! Tights, shoes, leotards!
@@Yocyndie Yup!
I think a shoe brand from her would do pretty well.
@dear_mi I've seen Twitter clips of Cher wearing bodysuits back in the 80s. Lady Gaga didn't introduce that.
I think overtime Beyoncé got too wrapped up in aesthetics. A lot of the color ways and styles weren’t wearable. It felt more like a collection for IG models instead of clothes for real people
i think what went wrong with IV Park is that the prices got continually higher along with the clothes not being wearable to the general public. the general public need clothes that they can also wear to work and a lot of people can’t wear a lot of the items she released out in regular life.
i also think this last IV drop flopped because the clothes came out the same time as tour tickets and most of us can’t afford to buy both leaving most fans to focus on tickets.
It's IVY* Park
Ivy Park isn’t meant to be a workwear or casual line, it’s an athleisure/streetwear line. I think a few pieces are wearable with the right styling, but overall it is on par with other athletic/streetwear brands. Where she/her team went wrong was not making it available in brick and mortar stores (along with the prices)
@@yageshabazz3456 the clothes aren’t wearable ANYWHERE
@@yageshabazz3456 Most of the clothes weren’t wearable lmao, who would wear denim assless chaps in public?
No one goes to adidas looking for clothes to wear to work
Beyonce is too elusive. And her brand reflects that. There’s nothing relatable about her that you can market. She seemed more relatable during the Dereon days than now.
Very true! So many people brought it up and it’s such a good point I didn’t even consider
I absolutely agree
Sis it's even in her music about how she too good for us plebs. It's good that she's doing the balmain collection. That makes sooo much more sense.

I know right. Beyonce needs a stylist, Britney Spears need a stylist. They dress horribly
They should've stop treating the IVY-Park clothing like Beyoncé was dropping a surprise album all the time. It also made no sense dropping one time a season without restocking. Also, the line should've been made accessible in stores. Never even had the opportunity to purchase something myself.
Yeah the marketing release strategy was so weird… especially since they did it every single time… it’s literally just exercise clothes
early on it was available in uk shops but i don’t think it lasted long
nvm this was mention in the video! - topshop
She really messed up when she didn’t restock the first burgundy & orange adidas drop!
I liked Ivy Park, but I got tired of having to pay attention to when new drops were happening. if they had just made a couple items limited edition and restocked certain basics all the time (maybe adding new colorways seasonally), they would’ve had way more sales!!
@@naomi.cannibal tell me about it. The strategies get old after a while
I feel like Beyoncé was never a fashion icon. I’m not looking to her for fashion or makeup. She tends to wear minimal makeup atm. But I remember years ago being obsessed with Beyoncé’s heat fragrance. I feel like she would thrive in that arena, most of the celebrities are already starting makeup brands. She should try her hand at perfumes, candles and even home decor. I think her gawdy, luxurious style would look amazing on home decor. Imagine gold accent lighting, textured rugs, huge african inspired statues, amber-patchouli scented candles and faux plants 😍✨
Oooo I could see a fragrance line doing SO well for her… I feel like I would be interested to actually try that too
How has she never been a fashion icon yet everything she wears sells out, she wore a fashion icon awards long before your “fashionable” girls were winning them. Just cause YOU don’t like her fashion style doesn’t mean she ain’t a fashion icon
@@elroe327 I have a different definition of “fashion icon”. A fashion icon starts trends or popularizes them. You want to wear what they are wearing. For example, Rihanna if I see her in anything or even her makeup I want to recreate it.
Beyoncé has always been a trendsetter in music, and even in her music videos. I’m not taking any credit away from here. Just her personal style has never been something the masses have wanted to dress like. She definitely stylish just in a more ecletic, opulent way! 😁
I was so obsessed with heat too, If I could just get my hands on one more bottle of that fragrance
@@elroe327Beyoncé is not a fashion icon. This is not a bad thing lol she is one of the worlds best entertainers not known for Fashion tho. Never has been. Not an insult just fact. Beyoncé was marketed as a modern Tina Turner. Fashion is more Rihanna’s marketing.
I truly believe Beyoncé fails with both house of dereon and ivy park is the fact there was a huge disconnect to how it presents Beyoncé public persona. Beyoncé is more luxury, opulent and mysterious it would make sense to make a clothing line or fashion collection that was more aligned it’s important bc celebrities business ventures are reflective of their public personas, for examples Yeezy by Kanye west makes sense since it’s wild, offbeat, unpredictable and avant garde aligns so much to Kanye’s person, fenty beauty and fenty x savage are about freedom, independence, breaking preconceived notions and unapologetically confidence which is aligns heavily to Rihanna’s public persona. Rare beauty is about being yourself and allowing to embrace the imperfect aspects of yourself as a way of growth, which definitely aligns with Selena Gomez. It works bc it helps celebrities feel connected to their fans as well as make fans feel they are relatable to their favorite celebrities and feel like they can do what they do.
Exactly that! The brand ethos never lined up with the actual clothes, nor did it seem to be things Beyoncé really thought about before it was time to make a fashion line
With respect…no body gives a crap about if the clothes lines up with the celebrity…except the people that would buy it regardless of what it is, because they like the celebrity. Kanye’s brand thrives because its rare and exclusive, rihanna’s make up caters to a wide range of skin tones which is not done enough in that industry…no one is going oh, I like the theme behind this collection because it resonates with the owner, i’mma buy it lol

Her team should’ve been this transparent with her!
This just further cemented that Beyoncé draws a thick line in the sand that separates her & hers from everyone else. She does NOT care about being accessible and/or relatable to her fans. The sooner they accept this wholeheartedly I think the happier they'll be - just enjoy the show. 🌟💎 Damn this was interesting nice work!
Thanks, and I agree! That’s why I could see her just doing a couture line or something, and I’m fine with not being her target audience
Beyoncé is a celebrity to other celebrities so there’s a barbed wire behind the thick line that divides us. 😂
@@userysldon't forget the electricity and land mines
I believe it’s failed for many reasons. One- nobody ever really cared about the line and the designs have always been ugly. Two-Beyoncé is wayyyy too detached from her fans!! She’s become so robotic it’s like she’s unreal lol If she did more public promo actually SPEAKING about her brand vs just throwing shit at us to buy the line would be more success.
Beyonce hasn't done an interview in so long, I think she is terrified at the thought of sitting down and talking to anyone!! She has become robotic 🤖
I first realized back in 2020 when she did that COVID video. I said idk who this is, but it ain’t Beyoncé. Look like she was in a trans. All her Tiffany collection photos and the pics she posted the past three years look soulless and her eyes are empty.
@@TheeJayMac0214 yes!! Soulless and lost. Anytime that she speaks she sounds like a robot and lacks any type of personality of relatability. Sometime she kinda creep me out 😩
The hit the nail right on the head though, people can sense inauthenticity and the ivy park felt very inauthentic to Bey's brand as opposed to Rih who is very authentic to her brand 😊
Best comment 🥇
This is why rihanna stepped away from music to focus on her line so it could be hers.if anyone is opening a business and want it to be ran properly, you cannot put your baby in another person's hands, because no one will have the vision or best interests in it but you.
The fact that Deréon is more representative of Beyoncé’s style than Ivy Park speaks volume on why Beyoncé is not a fashion icon and it’s completely fine, she can try jewelry or luggage storage, her packages for ivy park and her taste in necklaces were interesting for me.
I think she’s a fashion icon, she has her hits or misses, but I do think her tour looks are more iconic than her own personal style.
Luggage storage???💀😭
I 100% agree Beyoncé is an icon all around but she isn’t known for her fashions. Where as with Rihanna…her clothing line made sense because she has been well known for her clothing for over 10 years.

@@bardimedia7161 I do not consider Bey to be a fashion icon (IMO, dont hate me). Maybe because I always see her in performance outfit (which is amazing btw), and it somehow doesn’t reflect with her personal style.
I agree with the tiktok in the end. I literally just said that to my homegirl the other day. If Beyoncé made a wig line or hair care line I would 100% buy into it because to me she’s more known and talked about for her hair more than anything
Wigs are way to tacky to the point that it could destroy her brand
I would buy Mama Tina’s haircare line.
I'm sure if Bey released a hair/wig line it would be so freaking expensive, very few could afford it!!
You comment aged well cause cecred it out ❤️
Beyoncé has never been a fashion icon IMO. Usually Beyoncé is dressing ON trend - not creating trends. It’s because she plays it safe vs. trying bold or different things
Yet she single handily made Telfar bags sell out in literal hours after she was seen wearing them last year, is a recipient of multiple fashion icon awards, multiple famous big fashion designers such as Thierry mugler, Alexander McQueen and balmains creative director called her their muse and a fashion icon lmao y’all will lie through y’all’s teeth💀
@@elroe327 Telfar was already selling out before Beyoncé was photographed with one 😂Then Telfar himself posted that prices would not increase just because of Beyoncé.
@@elroe327 Being a “muse” for high fashion brands doesn’t mean the general public is inspired by her fashion looks though
@@elroe327 First of all Pepsi sales dropped when Beyoncé was doing commercials and adds for the company. Products don’t just sell out because of Beyoncé 😂 And Celebrities buy awards all the time and or have their team contact people and ask to be the recipient to keep their names being mentioned. Even Kanye said Beyoncé won’t attend award ceremonies unless the award shows tell her in advance she’s going to win. The awards will comply to get sponsors and views for their program because of the celebrity’s popularity. It’s called PR. It’s a give and take. just like the Hollywood walk of fame. Many celebrities ask to have a star vs being selected. and all celebrities have to pay at least 30,000 for that star. It’s all to keep their names being spoken of. Kim K asked for a star and was denied cause at the time she was known as a reality star. She might be able to buy one now that she’s ventured out 😂. But it’s not uncommon for celebrities to buy awards and ask to be the recipient. It’s been said so many times that Beyoncé bought most of her Grammys. The same goes for being on the cover of magazines. Most Celebrities pay to be on the cover and some can only afford to pay to be featured in the magazine. It’s a business…. And I hate to break it to you but when it’s mentioned fashion sold out in hours it’s because there were a limited amount to begin with and or marketing to bring attention to said products to generate sales. “It’s like saying most dentist recommend Colgate when there were only 5 dentist that were asked about Colgate. It’s called marketing.
Lowkey summed up her whole career
Very good points were made in this video. Ivy Park kind of utilized the aesthetic that high-end labels use where their brand name or logo is plastered all over t-shirts and bottoms, which is arguably past time. I think what would've really made the brand better despite the rising prices is leaning more into minimalism and extensive shade ranges like SKIMS while also compensating through quality fabric and technical qualities like comfort and stretch. A Beyonce-backed shapewear label would've been 10X better in my opinion.
I think so too! A lot of people don’t want to walk around in so obviously branded clothing, and it’s expensive, and I’ve heard people say it wasn’t good quality (but I’ve never worn it)
Bring back House of Deréon as a more accessible brand based on the fits she’s made for DC! That would flyyyyyyy off the shelves. Tina is such a fashion talent. She knows that the girlies want.
Can’t bring back what there was no demand for 🤷🏽♀️
I actually thought the original line was cute but way too expensive for the target audience.
I loved Deréon jeans and shorts when I was a kid.
@@GeminiCricket21 the baby doll dresses and jackets were cute. I think if they lowered the price slightly it would have been a bit more successful.
U better sto dat dere fooling about . Hell no that brand was trash let’s be honest. Destiny Child look country as hell back then whenever they were on the red carpet.
I haven’t even watched the video yet but my personal option she made her items WAAAY too exclusive and out of price range. I’ve never once seen anyone in my entire life wear dereon or ivy park other than insta. I was always confused like are you only selling clothes to millionaires and brand ambassadors or are normal people allowed to wear it too ? 😭😭😭
Also like you said the only launch that even mirrored her aesthetic was the rodeo launch
She also didn't really wear the brand like that. Like how Kanye wore Yeezy and Rihanna wore puma
I feel like she only wore it for instagram 😭
and how Rihanna wore Fenty from head, face to toe when the brand was still alive
Wig/Hair was DEFINITELY the biggest missed opportunity

Ms mamas doesn’t promote
Also it was just reselling already clothes that were on adidas
She didn’t make adidas anything better or cool as the brand hasn’t been it for years like no one wears it
The pandemic
The price
And not starting off with something small to sell to see if she can sell I honestly can’t take Beyoncé seriously when she sells certain fashion I think she should do something more luxury and with jewelry since her brand is more opulent
Also it being gym wear baby who’s wearing a puffer coat to la fitness
I noticed too that some of the ivy park garments were what adidas was already selling just dif colors
Who’s wearing a puffer coat to LA Fitness? SixNine, that’s who 😅
When Dereon was out. I was in middle school & I barely saw any commercials, ads, pictures. BabyPhat, Rocawear, Apple Bottoms had alot of ads & commercials in magazines etc. Especially BabyPhat..!! I only heard Dereon in basically 2 of Beyonce songz maybe others but idk. Why would you do work with a Fast fashion company. When many ppl are so against Fast-fashion..?? She literally picked the worst ppl to work with. When she created IV Park I truly don't believe she was thinking straight or at all.
You liked heat? Kim Kardashian perfume smelt better!
Ppl wear Adidas for sure
Anyone saying House of Dereon or Dereon needs to come back couldn’t have been there during the first run. In a time of Ed Hardy, Pastry, Wet Seal, and just tacky in general being the trend, Dereon was still regarded as being ugly on a different level. A huge criticism at the time was them having one set of clothes for the campaigns and sending other, cheaper, clothes out to actually sell. I know I never found or knew anyone who owned anything that was featured in an ad.
To me, Beyoncé just isn’t a fashion girl. She has memorable fashion moments but they’re always tied in to her music eras. Her red carpet or paparazzi fashion moments are almost always bad. Nobody can be the best at everything. Maybe clothes are her one bad spot.
If people can make kanye money for his expensive homeless looking clothes, the designs if house of dereon we’re definitely not bad.
@@ajollypanda4175 yeah but wasn’t it straight men who were a big part of the initial success of why Yeezy did so well/sold a lot? Straight men are notorious for not having good fashion sense, therefore their standards tend to be lower, whereas women & gay men have higher standards. Moreover, Kanye’s designs were more wearable to the average person, due to them having a neutral color scheme & more plain look.
You are 100% correct with the clothes Dereon would advertise vs in store. I never thought HOD was that cute b/c I was a Baby Phat girl 😁, but there was ONE HOD jumpsuit that I saw Beyonce wearing on a red carpet or something and could NEVER find that thing nowhere!!! Right! I was looking for that jacket she wore in irreplaceable video and you couldn't find it stores.
I heard the same thing about House of Dereon. HEARD because I've never seen it in the wild. Apparently the clothing that was sold in stores were mass-produced throwaway fashions from Asian sweatshops that they put the Dereon label on. That's what I read. That's bad business. That's a complete misunderstanding of how fashion houses stay in business. Respect your customer.

Lace front wigs are way more acceptable now (which is great). Back in the 2000s, black women were pressured to not admit to extensions or wigs, but to make others believe "this is my real hair." I'm glad it's shifted though and you can participate in high glam without having to convince people that all of it is "you," per say.
couldn't have said it better🙏
Agree... the TikToker says Bey could have launched a wig line in the early 2000s. She definitely had the fame and beauty then (and she did much more press then), but wearing wigs then was not casually spoken of like today. Bey and other Black pop stars were under so much pressure to have woken up like this, if you know what I mean. I do thing RuPaul and Drag Race helped change the conversation about wigs and beauty in general; it's work and effort. I think now, Bey is all about mystique -- and it's worked to burnish her image as the icon of our times -- so I don't think she'd be interested in making her hairpieces available to the masses. p.s. Remember when she did Feria commercials?
I feel like Wendy Williams laughing, joking and being open about her wig on her talkshow also helped.
You said it
Stop the cap 🧢 bw wore wigs cuz they liked them and thought it looked better than our natural hair bffr
Lowkey Tina Knowles is THE fashion icon not Beyoncé- Destiny’s child’s fashion is very similar to the impact Lil Kim had on fashion at the time (both had to have people they were close to design/sew their clothes and that made them stand out even more)
Eh
My thing is Beyonce has taste. When it comes to her work, she has so many amazing and iconic looks. She drops the ball in every other way, red carpets, candid looks, and her own clothing lines. Idk why. Why can’t the level of style she puts in her tours and music videos translate to any other area, not even the red carpet. It’s almost like if it’s attached to her work, she taps into something else and creates amazing moments but if if has nothing to with that, she loses almost all of her fashion sense. I mean look at Coachella. Look at how many times a simple outfit got recreated, it’s an iconic look. Some damn high wasted shorts, a cropped hoodie, wavy blonde weave, and sparkly boots is an iconic recognizable look. I also feel like those cat suits you showed from black is king is so her and would absolutely be successful. She has the ability to create iconic moments. And like you said she’s able to sell out other people’s stuff when she wears it so the influence is there. And Ivy park was very successful in the beginning. At the end of the day, branding matters but a product has to stand alone no matter who is selling it bc if it doesnt then it’s just pure hype. I know ppl who can’t stand Kim k but love skims bc the product is good. I’m not the biggest Rihanna fan but I have so much of her makeup bc I watched reviews and they were given good reviews and it’s good. Fenty beauty is just good no matter who is selling it. So take away Beyonce take away a brand a celebrity a price tag blah blah blah, is the product GOOD? I think that’s what her intention was, to let the brand stand on it’s own but the product has to be good to do that. Can Beyonce sell GOOD products? Does she even know what ppl want and where she can fit in this market? Is she so detached from ppl that she doesn’t even know what they want or what how she can provide it to them? There’s no way a superstar of her caliber should be struggling this much with her brand and selling stuff, something is seriously wrong with that picture especially since her music and tours sell out like crazy. But She’s not that attached totally, she knows a lot of up and coming artists and she knows what people are saying about her in the blogs and news. She keeps her ears to the streets to some degree. I think she just struggles with how to sell what she likes and wears to people that will buy it and also have that make sense with the messaging in her music. Like look at Tiffany’s, that’s more of her in real life or the Beyonce we know and not Ivy park. But who in the hell in her fan base can buy Tiffany’s? Whoever is buying Tiffany’s was buying it before Beyonce put her name on it. How do you be a musician making music for the common folks but also be a billionaire that wears super expensive clothes and then try to create products that align with you but also affordable for your fan base? We can praise Rihanna but she wasn’t even able to do that. That balmain collection is so much more of her then Ivy park or Dereon. Too bad it’s not being sold tho. I don’t get the point of creating a line just for her to wear when she don’t even be out so when will we see it being worn? Ain’t like she’s dropping visuals or anything.
Last point, give up fashion. Just give it up. I know she doesn’t want to and doesn’t want to look like a failure but girl clotjes ain’t it. We still love you. We love YOU! Not the shit you’re trying to sell us. But if you wanna do clothes so badly, collaborate with brands that already on the same track and mindset like you. She should have BEEN worked with balmain i don’t understand why it took so long for them to do that collection. But yes do something with someone who already understands what she wants instead of starting from scratch.
Ivy Park did way better than HOD, but like what was already stated, IP isn't really wearable everyday and only stans really care to purchase.
Yes the ivy park branding was too much for a lot of ppl I think… esp for the price those aren’t items I can subtly wear very often

Beyoncé wants the general public to believe she wears her own hair that's why she has not done a wig business yet.
I think it's too tacky for her brand
Because her natural hair is just as long?? There’s multiple videos here on CZcams showing proof. She wears wigs to protect her hair from heat, colors and damages. Black womens obsession with trying to humble Beyoncé needs to be studied lmao💀

Excellent video as always! I don't think Beyonce is really known for her fashion. And if she is, it's from her stagewear or music videos like you mentioned. It was a stretch to go into sports wear or athleisure. It was either forgettable because addias already has it or just not wearable in regular life so it felt like a cash grab. Maybe she can make tour/album specific pieces so she can draw on elements of her music/performance/videos. And I do think she needs an actually fashionable partner to make sure it's unique but not tacky lol I remember Deron vividly and even during that tacky era, hers was somehow worse! The best part was the jeans lol
Exactly! I’m only looking at beyonces fashion when it comes to performing, so I feel like clothes related to that would sell better probs
What went wrong is: she don’t care. She puts other people to work to make something, grabs a bag and moves on. Just like her last album.

Beyonce isn't a fashion girl. Her clothes tend to wear her and she rarely looks comfortable. If IVY PARK comes back or if Beyonce decides to do another fashion line, she needs to hire a designer/creative director and slap her name on it. No one is checking for Beyonce's fashion choices.
Damn true though😂
No shade to Beyonce but I never heard fans say they wanted to dress like her. That being said I hope she realizes it's okay to just be a performer and singer. There are a lot of greats who never had fashion lines. Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, Usher, Celine Dion along with Jennifer Hudson just to name a few all never had fashion lines and seem to be doing amazing. The one thing I don't like about that period in time during House of Derion is everyone had a fashion line. For AA since we don't have many fashion designers in the industry as it is, having Beyonce's line as well as so many others diminished the value. Just because you are offered a fashion line doesn't mean you have to take it. Look how that worked out for Rihanna. It also didn't help that she doesn't wear her own brand. I hope she accepts that being a singer and performer is okay. Great video as always.
I get your point but I think what you’re saying is false solely based upon the video itself. It was clear that house of deron only made it to shelves because Beyoncé’s fans wanted to dress like her. Beyoncé’s failure in Fashion has nothing to do with people not wanting to dress like her but the lack of direction she goes & connection to herself. On top of it being overpriced.
@@jamal8504 respectfully if that’s true why didn’t it sell? Men lie, women lie, numbers don’t. She didn’t do the sales to prove people wanted this.

Goodmorning everyone: House of Dereon wasn't really as interesting as other clothing line. I remember I had some Dereon jeans. They weren't very popping like Apple Bottoms, Rocawear or BabyPhat jeans. I can't believe Beyonce would do that. Why would you make a woman wear clothes but not pay woman enough who make...?? That was very hypocritical. Why was she working with a fast fashion company. Ivy Park looks the same as other athletic wear. Everything was just blah & the same. Nothing really different. When I buy something I personally want it to look totally different, stylish, casual & sexxxy. Not something that looks about the same as another clothing line. For some reason I have a strong feeling she will come out with a shoe or purse line. You could tell Ivy Park wasn't popping cuz it wasn't really even mentioned.

The price point wasn’t justifiable for many, I’m sure. Rihanna figured out by providing lower-priced products, I.e. underwear and makeup, she can win especially with repeating sales. Ivy Park seems to be a product for some that is a one-time purchase.

I definitely agree that this Balmain collab is more true to Beyonce now but I find that I dress like a Destiny's Child member and I wish that was easier to find haha
Right I was struggling to see the destiny’s child vibes in dereon honestly
Idk I love Beyonce downnnn, but I just don't think she's great at selling stuff other than music tbh. Especially with her being so reserved at this point in her career.
It's always nice to hear you talk about stuff when I want to unwind and learn without working to hard. 😂 I'm not overly into fashion, but the topic with your tone still sold me.🙌
thank you! Glad I kept u entertained lol
@@naomi.cannibal Credit where due. You're giving syndication with the consistency too. 🤣🙌
YESSSS! CAN'T WAIT TO FINISH THIS!
wow big ups to Ms Tina may she get the credit + recognition she deserves! 😯🙌
i did not know about her fashion talent & vision!
thanks for sharing in this vid
beautiful 💫
I love your voice it’s so soothing. I love your content so much! Thank you!!!!
No, thank you!! 💕
I loved Ivy Park, I bought a couple a pieces from some collections && the quality was amazing.. the best I’ve ever seen honestly. I haven’t wore some bc I knew this would happen unfortunately since everything doesn’t last forever but I’m so grateful to have pieces from her Ivy Park line
Perfect video Naomi!!
Great video once again..!! Please keep em coming we need these. Could you do a video on Real vs Fake: True stories that are true, not made up.
Thanks so much..!!
I had always been a huge fan of Ivy Park even back in their Topshop days. I was super excited about the Adidas collaboration and bought my fair share of items from several of the drops. My issue came from frustrations I had with the buying process on adidas ( they never seemed like they were prepared for the influx of customers on drop day), The price increasing while the quality never felt quite as good as the first two drops, and the fact that the majority of items being released were the same things in different color ways. And every drop the colors were so different that you had to get a full set from each drop to keep from looking crazy with mixing too many of the colors. I was always most interested in the items that were more streetwear and less athletic wear, but the prices became unsustainable for such uninspired product.
OMG! I almost forgot about the most annoying part. The sizing was so difficult to determine online. It changed based on the material, it changed based on the drop. The reason people stopped buying was because we would fight for our lives trying to make it to check out just to have the item we wanted to be sold out when we Finally got there or we would receive our items and they didn’t fit. But they were also sold out so we couldn’t exchange them. I’m getting angry all over again thinking about it
Very interesting video analysis. I love fashion analysis and you naomi approach it in a sane intellectual fashion. I stumbled across your channel and will subscribe.
Excellent breakdown. You know the history of Beyonce's fashions.
Thank you!!
Beyoncé should’ve went into the high quality wig/hair products game. Her mother is a hairstylist and the fact that she performs in wigs and doesn’t sweat them off along with any product is amazing to me. Her hair before and after always looks laid
Hi, I have thought about your comment since you made it 8 months ago, and I HAD to find this video, come back, and tell you that you are spot on. Wigs or hairpieces really is where her game is at.
I think she read your comment. Cécred dropped days ago
You’re tooo good at this 🌟
I was obsessed with Dereon when I was in middle school. I had coat, three hoodies, one shirt, one pair of jeans, and a hat. They all ripped and threading would come out sometimes even before first wear 😩😂 but you couldn’t tell me nothing back then I wanted my Dereon!
I think the biggest most glaring issue is creating something that doesn’t align well with what we identify her with. She can still sell items and things to people, she just needs to let this dream of clothes GO! Or do something that closely identifies with her brand. It’s not super expensive workout clothes, AT ALL! I think Dereon was what it was. It lasted as long as every other urban street wear brand. Baby phat was extremely successful and popular and so was rocawear but they all ended around the same time bc they weren’t meant to last forever.
I heard she sent PR boxes to fans but I don't see it. She only send it to famous people. That kind of sucks because you say you're all about your fans.
How many celebrities are sending stuff to their fans…you sent PR stuff to people that can market it. People will buy all these expensive shoes and handbags but when it comes to black people selling stuff they want it cheap or free.
Those famous people WERE her fans, lol.
I don’t understand why people are mad about her sending stuff to celebs, she’s one, promoting herself/brand to audiences that are not already her fans, and also two, logistically there might be some issues on how it works. Seeing how entitled a lot of y’all are, what’s the criteria for her picking fans, even if it’s at random, what if it’s only opened to us fans which happens with giveaways, then she’s gonna piss off her European fans, or her African fans or her Asian fans, there will be people unhappy regardless. And yea it would be cute to send to her fans but it won’t do much for marketing outside of her fanbase. If she wants to increase sales she had to branch out as well from her core audience. And again, y’all ain’t buy it regardless so now what?
🛑 ✋🏼 UMM. I know Tyra is controversial BUT Tyra had some of the best if not the best hair for a famous woman at that time. You couldn't even tell if it was her hair or not.
Yeah you can knock Tyra for a lot but the wigs were wigging
I’ve bought a few Ivy Park pieces and I generally like them all but my biggest gripe is the zipper quality … all the original zippers didn’t last very long. The clothes definitely look cute though.
Some items I bought for reference:
Blue latex pants and matching body suit // green and black houndstooth bodysuit // green x blue x silver sparkly houndstooth coat // a few others
She just doesn’t know herself and her skillset. She just has the access to do things. When she gets a better grasp on who she is she’ll know what lands.
Ivy park made 40 million dollars last year…let’s calm down
Loved this
I only got one piece of Ivy Park from the denim collection because i was just saying i wanted some adidas on denim, and it just came up, and it was the only piece i stayed for on the app for like hours. It was fun to buy it and have it. I will treasure my blouse=jacket forever.
Thank you for your amazing content
Thank you for watching ♥️
I cant believe this channel only has 74k subs
The problem with Ivy Park and probably celebrity clothing lines in general (i.e. Fenty) is that they’re marketed in a way that it’s almost inaccessible to the general consumer because of the exclusivity created. After a while, people don’t really pay attention to the drops, either because they are bored or tired of not being able to buy what they want. Plus in both cases (especially Ivy Park) they weren’t offering anything new. Ivy Park is essentially normal Adidas apparel but in different colour ways and with Beyoncé’s name attached. In comparison, I believe that Skims has done pretty well because they offer versatile and everyday basics, and also are more widely available.
When you compare to a trainers/sneakers drop or even makeup, it’s different because you can pair trainers/sneakers with several outfits, but you’re not always going to wear athleisure. Similarly, makeup is always going to be in demand and thus is more widely available. Bottom line is, unless you’re offering a niche product, trying to create buzz by making a product exclusive and harder to obtain often does more harm than good.
You should've told me you were making this! I would've sent you my research!
I’d already finished recording when I saw yours pop up and i was like haha twins!!
With so many early 2000s fashion trends making a comeback, it would have been great for her to incorporate that into her brand. For example, if she was going for athletic gear, make it glam. Glam was always her style! Athletic gear that was somehow wearable and glamorous at the same time. Comfortable tops with a little bling. Idk.. her glamorous style that was practical for everyday people if that makes sense?
I Love your vídeos, and i don't know why but your voice always sounds so calm. 😅
Beyoncé is one of my favorite artists and i miss the style of her early years, maybe it is just nostalgia but it was really funny and sexy style. But she looks great no matter what.
Thank you ♥️
i was excited to buy during the first drop, but since everything was sold out, i assumed that would happen in the future. those designs are really cute though, but i didn’t pay attention to the other drops
Tina ain’t no designer cuz House of Dred was a damn mess . They looked tawdry on the red carport back then. Ivy Park just never did it for me seem very generic. Beyonce needs to sing , dance and look pretty. Fashion and acting are not her ministries
My friends and I all had that hoodie from the "Irreplaceable" music video back in HS 😂
Great breakdown….I own 2 pairs of House of Dereon jeans (yes, they were expensive at the time) and they still hold up to this day. They could have gone up against Good American or any higher end brand that’s out now. Once they launched Dereon, there wasn’t much focus on HOD. Beyonce rarely wore those clothes and over time even Solange moved away from it. I wear alot of Adidas, and honestly you can purchase from their regular lines or other Adidas collabs for less money and look good. Again, she rarely wore those clothes, they were hard to get, and at launch handing them out to tons of celebrities when fans could barely get their hands on anything was a turnoff. With the exception of posing in ads, the collab seemed very off brand for her.
i loved house of dereon i had black winter jacket from that line and i loved it very much!!
My problem with House of Dereon is it was too expensive and hard to find as well. I never knew anyone that wore the brand.
Beyonce's inability to bring products that match what she has built herself up to be known for in the people's minds is rubbing off on Chloe Bailey. the confusion we had in what Ivy Park was truly about is the same confusion we have over what Chloe Bailey is all about
The Balmain collection is beautiful!
I had not thought of Target, but that would work as a collab. Target would ensure accessibility, too. I think one reason this might not be an attractive collab is I don't see Target paying guaranteed yearly lumpsums even if sales don't meet projections. But the Target collab is a great idea.
Very true, and they usually do short term collabs for the celeb brands
The rodeo collection was the only one I bought from. The shoes went crazy !!!
I loved Dereon especially the winter jackets with the fur ohh and the jeans ❤
I read a write up this-the adidas fiasco. The opinion piece said that Beyonce is not a fashion creator but a fashion model. She’s not best at fashion business but can wear the hell out of these outfits. It was a really decent way of saying shes an underrated model and she respected for catching out eyes on whatever she wears.
ugh I love your videos❤
Thank you 💕
I loved the Dereon brand. I scour sites like eBay and Poshmark constantly looking for Dereon clothing. I still wear my Dereon clothes today and get a lot of compliments and people asking where I got it. I wish Beyoncé would bring it back but sadly I don’t think she ever will
19:04: This then provides some evidence that people know the things we know HER to genuinely wear or style and therefore should be what she capitalises on.
The wig line could be good I mean her mother IS a beautician ✨
Yeah, the things that make her appealing as an artist (besides her insane talent) also make it hard to sell clothes at the same time. We don’t know too much about her and her personality, that mystery aspect is great for music. I do think that ivy park looked promising when it was at top shop because it was presented as something she’s wearing when practicing etc. so I can see dancers etc. buy it. As far as fashion, I’m always in love with what she wears on stage and videos. Maybe that’s something to keep in mind for her next clothing line!
Your vidz are always on point the girl at the end is 💯 right she would’ve been a billionaire no Jayz partnership needed
I still have this white shorts and top Dereon outfit from back then though I can't get my behind back in it. I have a pic from the night I wore it though. 😂
I love your videos gal
I have 3 pieces from Ivy Park and wouldve got more if it wasnt always dropped so suddenly and with such a hefty price theyre comfortable however it was all from the earlier drops as the later ones just weren't my style and i couldn't ration paying so much for something I'd never wear
I have bought one itwm- a jumpsuit- I did not even wear it once... it was styled nicely on the models- but I look like a go to work in construction- I regret this purchase so badly😢
Agreed for me how logo branded Ivy Park was a detractor. Like the Marine Serre moon or the adidas three stripes I wish she had developed a signature pattern or symbol versus printing the name on so many pieces. Additionally I always wished the pieces were more unique or modeled after her stage performances looks. A small collection of heavily embellished or patterned performance leotards, leg warmers, boleros etc would have killed especially today with the rise of dancer inspired clothing.
I saw a video saying that she parted ways with Topshop before the allegations, due to the line making negative profit.
Looking back, I like HOD way more. It was so cute for its time.
Yeah the actual gowns were serving!!
I have a dereon shirt and it's one of the only t shirts I own that fits my small curvy torso perfectly so I had a good view of the brand for that haha. First shirt that I could say fit great lol
So I bought at least 1 item from the majority of the IVP/adidas drops. At the time, I purchased a lot of yeezys so I was a level 4 in adidas and therefore always had first dibs on the Ivy Park releases. The first drop was absolutely magical and I'm kind of upset that I wasn't able to buy more back then. A lot of the drops were innovative in terms of color stories and pieces but I feel like it stopped after the Rodeo collection. By the time Ivytopia rolled around it was clear that the end was near. Some of the items got delayed, some items had serious sizing issues etc. Those problems seemed to carry over into the last drop with the camo. I'm not the biggest Beyonce fan but I was definitely a fan of the clothes to the point where it's most of my closet at this point. I know I"m one of the few people who actually wear my Ivy Park outside of instagram. I'm sad to see the collab break up but I also know its for the best. With that being said, I'm excited to see what's next for Ivy Park but I'm not sure if my bank account can participate this time around.
