Awesome instructions. I'm recently bought 2014 Infiniti QX60. Doing my 1st oil change this morning. Thanks to your confidence and knowledge of a vehicle that I have. Thanks👊🏿
Thank you so much for making this video. I just bought a 2019 Infinity QX60 yesterday. This is my first luxury vehicle and I’ve always done my own maintenance on all of my cars and SUV’s. I hope your other videos on this car can help me in the future.
That's fantastic news...hope you enjoy your 2019! There is some things harder on these cars, especially electronically, but most stuff is very easy to work on...maintenance like oil changes, brakes, suspension, spark plugs (which are a little bit of a pain), all can be worked on. Hope you find some great use out of the videos in the future!
Great guide! Thank you for providing this oil change guide. I just wasn't sure how pain in the butt it is for doing oil change on my infinity QX 60 is so just thought I look it here. This is the first time I own a car that is not a toyota. And toyotas are just so much easier and everything is just right there not hidden away in hard to reach spot. This one here looks do-able enough.
It definitely is. Not the easiest car, but easier than many newer cars I've worked on. Happy to hear the video is helpful! Thanks for watching
Thank you for the informational video sir! Keep it up!
No problem at all! Thanks!
Awesome instructions. Thank you.
No problem at all. Glad the video will help out
Will try now, thanks
Great news. Good luck
Thanks. Super professional and super helpful! No more $90 trips to Jiffy lube
Awesome, glad to hear you will save some money...that's a win to me. Thanks for the great feedback
Thanks! Helps a lot
You're welcome. Glad the video helped.
Thank you for your help on this! I've done a lot of oil changes but this dip stick is so bad...the oil gets all up and down the rod so I can't tell where it's reading lol. But I put in a bit over 4 and it should be fine. Thanks again!
I hear that! The dipstick does show coated with oil all the time! Glad to hear the video was helpful!
Good video!
Thanks, much appreciated
Thanks !
No problem at all. Glad the video will be helpful.
Hi, nexus Auto, are you going to make a video on how to change front differential fluid? I am waiting for it, thanks a lot
I will be making the video shortly. I hope to have it made soon, but no eta. I have the fluid, but working on getting the time to film. I hope to get it done soon
Hi.. your videos are great. But in this video i struggled to find the aur filter. Suggest that u would said like passenger wheel or something.
Also the oil level is way above the mesh. Is it normal? Mine is also same
But i thought its because i overdfilled
Hi Jayant. You are absolutely right. Normally, in other oil change videos, I mention where the filter was. I did not realize i missed that until you mentioned it. I would edit it if I could, but I can't. I will note that for future videos. Thanks for the tip.
The oil on the dipstick is normal for when just pouring the fresh oil in. What should be done is to run the engine a bit, then let it cool, oil settle, and recheck. That will give a more accurate reading as well. It only shows all the way up the dipstick from the oil drain down from top to bottom.
Thanks again, and appreciate the great feedback.
Thanks! Just need to know how to reset the oil light
No problem! I really should have included that in the video. I'll try to make one soon on how to reset the oil light!
Thanks for sharing. I wonder how much oil everyone filled after draining. When I google it, it say it takes 4.8L I filled about 4.5L the dipstick showed the oil level was way over........
I won't speak for others, but I personally take about 4.5L out, but that is because there is a very small amount of burn out of the oil over 6 months or so. I do put the almost 5L in and my level is fine. But only after going for a drive and warming up the engine. If you haven't already, go for a drive then recheck it.
Hi, thanks for the oil change video. Could you please do a video on Power Steering Flush and Coolant Flush on JX35/QX60 also? Thank you
I can look at doing it, but it likely won't be until next year, when mine is due. Hope that is ok
@@NexusAuto thanks for your response! I have a JX too (now at 160k) and your channel has helped me a lot.
@@crnchn7625 No problem at all. Glad to hear the channel has helped out. I will have more videos in the future.
Pls include how to reset the oil service maintenance.. thanks
I will try and make a video in the near future detailing that
I think I drain my differential fluid. Can someone help to identify it in an 2018 infinity qx60
Are you asking how to change the rear differential fluid? If so, i did make a video on how to do that.
czcams.com/video/EoE22YpfRpI/video.html
Hey do you put the violent fluid on the little white container on the left the one with the black cap
I know it is likely a autocorrect error, but I assume you mean coolant? If so, then the white container with the black cap is the reservoir. The grey cap is for washer fluid.
ah ok that’s what i though I just was freaking out because I though I put it on something that had to do with the air conditioner. I didn’t want to breath cooling fluid haha . Also I just didn’t know because most cars have a tightly sealed cap that’s normally hard to get off and has some pressure but this car just has a regular cap
@@francobrothersLLC no worries at all..better to be safe and double check. Glad to help out. This car also has that radiator cap that is hard to remove. If you look down from that container and to the right a bit, on the lower trim, you'll see a circular panel that can be removed. If you open it up, the rad cap is there!
No dipstick should be that complicated... And it's not much easier to see the hole during daylight. Not sure if this is your experience or not, but I have a very difficult time getting a good reading from the dipstick on my JX35. No matter when I check it, I have oil all over the stick.
One question though if you get this far in my post- have you ever had issues getting oil to drain properly in your JX? I just did an oil change earlier, and only got 2 1/2-3 quarts out. Checking the dipstick, I still had oil showing (again always hard for me to get a good reading). Engine was warmed up first, so don't believe that is the problem. Had vehicle as flat as possible (eyeballed it, but I also tried to jack from different angles when I realized it was very little). Just to be safe, I only added back as much as I got out (dumped into an empty 5 quart jug I had to measure it before adding new). Was just curious if you have ever experienced or have any ideas
I am with you there. But at least it is not as bad as the transmission dipstick! By far the worst dipstick I have ever encountered. The oil one is pretty annoying too though.
I have encountered the issue with oil on the dipstick. I normally let the car sit for a bit (sometimes as much as 20-30 mins) and then I get a much more accurate reading. At that point, the engine is still warm enough to get a good reading.
Unfortunately, I have not encountered your oil drain issue. I always get the right amount of oil out. That is unusual to me. I have seen this issue on other, higher compression engines, and normally opening the oil filler cap on top of the engine releases engine vacuum and the oil will pour out completely. But never had to do it for this car. That said, if you haven't, I would say to give it a try. Otherwise, I am not sure. It may be a good idea to get a professional engine flush done. I normally say these are required as needed, and this may be the situation. There could be some sludge or carbon build up preventing the oil from draining completely.
@@NexusAuto Thank you very much for the reply. Agree 100% on the transmission dip stick. I just gave up on it eventually (I wasn't experiencing any issues that made it necessary, was more just curious). It's borderline impossible!
For the oil draining issue, I am thinking the flush might be necessary. I am thinking there may be a little sludge. The oil was definitely sticky when I drained it. Not overly so, but still- stickier than I thought it should be. It does have over 180k miles, so a flush is probably a good course of action. Also I did have a P0011 code at one point- which cleared after a little bit of seafoam just before the last oil change- but that could have been sludge caused as well, so thinking going somewhere for a professional flush may be the best next step
@@steveg7066 P0011 can definitely be clogged passages. And with the seafoam clearer the code, I think you are on the right track for sure. A flush sounds like a good idea, one way or another.
I just took my oil filter off and it came off with a metal pipe thing in the middle and I can’t screw in the new oil filter because there is no place to tread it into on the car
Ohhh no. Not a unrecoverable predicament, but a bit of work to fix. First, if you haven't been able to yet, get the the oil filter off from the pipe. I have never had to do this myself (I have been lucky like that), but I have seen it done with the 2 nut method. Look that up, if needed.
Once you get the filter off, you need to put some red threadlocker on the engine-side threads of the oil filter rod, and install it back into the engine. Then leave it for as long as possible for the threadlocker to set. Overnight, if at all possible.
Then you should be able to install the oil filter back in.
These sort of things are very rare, but it does happen.
@@NexusAuto thanks ! I called a mobile mechanic and he got it out Under a min lol. I struggled for almost a whole day to get it off
@@edgarandreasyan521 That's awesome news...glad to hear you got it sorted
How important is it to fill the new filter with fresh oil? I noticed that you did not do this here
For my experience, precharging the oil filter on any modern car is unneeded. The oil filter gets fully charged in less than 2 seconds and any any is already discharged. Additionally, you are really just pouring oil through the outlet, which does very little. Any 'help' it offers, is negligible, if any benefit at all. On top of that, this is a side-loaded oil filter, and if you put any real amount of oil in it, as soon as you turn it sideways, you'll just end up with a mess. I have not done it in about 15 yrs, had no car issues on any car I have worked on, and no premature engine failures, and always have really clean engine internals (for the engines I have checked).
That said, if you want to do it, I don't see anything wrong with doing it either. I just do not see the point.
BTW, you will get 50/50 arguments on this, depending on who you ask. Some will say you MUST do it, others will you NEVER need to do it. You know which camp i'm in LOL.
@@NexusAuto awesome info. Thanks!!
@@IIISWILIII no problem
thnx for this. Do you know what after market DIFFERENTIAL BUSHING will fit the 2009 fx35 rwd suv? INFINI-THEIF wants over $3000 to replace my busted diff. bushing, and does not sell it without the entire subframe!!! WHAT A BUNCH OF THIEVES.!!!
Unfortunately, I don't know off the top of my head what diff bushings interchanges with the FX35. I did a Google search and see some for sale at online stores, but not many offer them. You can also try a junkyard (if there's one in your area). But none I can recommend
thnx for ur reply. keep on doing ur good wrks. brother.@@NexusAuto
Thanks, much appreciated!
What if I put in the dipstick incorrectly
If you put it n the wrong way, the little handle will face downwards. You would really need to force it in to get it in there in the opposite direction. If that has accidentally happened, you may be in trouble. You would need to slowly, carefully work the dipstick around and up, avoiding it getting caught on anything
I got the same car, how often do you change the oil?
I do mine twice a year, but I don't rack up a lot of miles on my car, even pre-covid. These days, even less! As per the Infiniti Maintenance guide, it should be 3,750 MILES OR 3 MONTHS
I followed the instructions.. very helpful... I have an issue with oil level ... I put only around 4 litres of oil but dipstick shows oil level above the high line even above notch.... I thought maybe i didnot empty old oil property so i drained some oil from the pan to reduce level but it is still showing same level above the high mark and above the notch... I am confused on what to do
Hmmm. hard to say what's going on without being there to see it myself.
I have to ask this, because I have seen this happen to quite a few people on all sorts of vehicles...are you sure you drained the right fluid? I have seen people drain transmission fluid and then overfill their oil, while the transmission stays empty. Not trying to create doubt or say you don't know what you're doing, but these things happen, so want to be sure.
While it is ideal to check when the engine oil is warm, I would say to wait until the engine oil has has settled and the engine has cooled, and recheck. How much came out of the engine when you emptied it? Did you get 4-5 litres?
@@NexusAuto thanks for the reply... I didn't measure it but seemed around 4 to 5 litres... And it was engine oil i drained.. lol.. i jacked the car from one side and not the other to get underneath... Maybe it did bot drain properly because of that and pooled on one side of oil drum
@@usmanzify LOL ok cool. Just had to double check on the oil. This sort of thing happens more than it should 😂. There may have been some pooling, but it shouldn't have been that significant to cause an overfill. But that could have contributed to it for sure. How much do you think you removed after you checked it the first time? It is interesting to see your oil being overfull. Even if it was accidentally overfilled on the last oil change, it should have all drained out with the oil change.
What's up man, I'm trying to change the engine oil for my 2015 QX60, I read in the owners manual just now 0W20 is the one, my mechanic recommended to go from 5W30 full synthetic 🤦🏻♂️ to 5W40 because is has 180k miles. I read in one the Infiniti official website 5W50 is the one to go for. What's your take on this?
This is the link www.cerritosinfiniti.com/best-oil-types-for-infiniti-qx-60-cerritos-ca/
@@amoryunidad Hmmm, this website is interesting. That is a very thick weighted oil. My only guess for them is that they are in California, so it is possible they are recommending the thicker fluid for the hotter climate? Even so, that seems very thick for a VQ engine. My guess is the climate.
Ow20 is the recommended for 2015 and up QX60, but depending on where you live, it does not hurt to go to a thicker grade, especially with the the mileage. Knowing these engines, I would say 5W30 is more than enough. If you live in a colder climate, I would even say to go to 5W30 in the summer, 0W20 for the winter. If you are in a decent or warm climate, it would be fine to run 5W30 all year round.
@@NexusAuto thank you! Yes I live in Miami, is hot out here!
@@amoryunidad nice...beautiful place! You can definitely run 5W30 all year round.
I just put 5w 20 in my 2015. Is that a bad thing or should I be okay (Houston, TX)
This car use 5.1 not 4 point something?
4.8L or 5 1 quarts. Same amount, different unit of measurement
Is it easy to do the oil change without jacking the car up?
If you're skinny enough, sure lol. I am not so skinny, so getting to the drain bolt it tricky. The filter is easy. But if you can get under there, you don't need to lift the QX
Enjoyed your video, please show proper way to jack up video.
Awesome, glad to hear the video helped. I will definitely look into a jacking video shortly.
I don’t like how this video does not show exactly where the drain plug and oil filter is. The person recording just started recording the video from under the car. He should’ve started from outside the car and work his way inside to show where it all is which would be helpful for a beginner.
I hear what you're saying. But I didn't start recording from under the car...I was in front of it, kneeling down. You can even see the front bumper a bit at around 0:45 seconds. Then I crawled underneath. Hope that helps you with the orientation a little bit
Why didn't you use a new crush washer? They're only good for a single use. Otherwise it's a decent and helpful video.
It is best practice to change the crush washer, but many many are guilty of reusing a washer if it looks good, myself included. I typically don't use them more than once or twice and they're fine, and have done this for hundreds of cars. But still, a very bad habit to have. Very good point
hi. on the subject of "crush washers". Does it matter has a specific way to be installed? i notice that the sides are not the same. Which side goes to the drain pan, the wider side or the slender side? Can anyone say for sure?@@NexusAuto
It can vary, but typically, the larger side faces the pan ,and the smaller side faces the drain bolt. Can I have seen it vary by vehicle manufacturer. If this is for you FX, I would assume it is larger side towards the pan, as I have seen this on many other Infinitis and Nissans.
0w-20 plz ~~
This is a very good point, I will update the video description.
Its called a crush washer. Not a gasket...........Just saying.......
True. Semantics, but you are absolutely right.
Why do vehicle manufacturers keep getting worse and worse with oil filter placement? Main reason I watched this video is to find where it was and now not very excited to get to it lol
Lol I hear you there there is no reason it should be like this. Very annoying design!
I dont see any point on jacking up the JX35. Plenty of room to get to the drain plug
There is room for some, but not for all. Some people are claustrophobic, and the higher, the better. Some are bigger, and simply cannot fit. Some like to to be able to be right under the car as opposed to just reaching from near the front of the bumper. Some just like getting right under the car and being able to study and inspect everything. There is a lot of reasons to jack the car up, and I try to cater to as much as I can. If you dont need to jack up the car to get the job done, you can just skip it. But if the viewer has any of the above concerns (or any others not mentioned), then it is worth mentioning for sure.
@@NexusAuto I get that, Im 6'3 220 and dont need to jack up the vehicle
@@eagle___empire3175 same here. I wouldn't need to either, and I'm 5'10" and near 300 lol. But still, I know some people do. So I included it.
@@NexusAuto I understand, its a great video dont get me wrong.

LOL I clean my engine twice a year. Makes a difference :)
Lol . Great videos . I have a 2013 jx35. I thought I was the only one left owning that vehicle . 130k miles . No major issues thank god . Bought it brand new 5/2012
@@mele2259 Thanks, much appreciated. Sounds like your JX is treating you well so far...that is awesome news. I bought mine used, but it has been great so far. No regrets! I still see quite a few of them in my area, not including the newer models too. I'll have many more videos in the future as well.
Good information but you should add put a little clean oil on the filter gasket and drain plug gasket to keep them from seizing up
I think you missed it. I did put oil on the filter gasket at the 9:30 mark. Also, you don't need to put oil on the drain plug gasket. It's a crush washer and if you're doing regular oil changes, it will never seize (its supposed to be replaced every oil change). I've also never met another mechanic who puts oil on any drain plug, and I'm in Canada where we get some pretty harsh winters.
The engineer who designed that dipstick should be fired....I hope he is not employed by Nissan anymore...
I completely agree. This one, and the CVT transmission stick, which is even worse! Terrible designs!
Well.. Nothing special, just like any other oil change... Point of this video should have been how to reset the oil after...
It is pretty straight forward. Nothing special at all. But for many, this may be their first oil change, so while it is run of the mill for you, it may be a new experience for many others.
And true, I did not include the oil reset light, but that is because 1. you can set or change the mileage, so it is not completely accurate, and 2. In the same screen that you can set the mileage, you can also reset it via the reset option. Not as big a deal as many other vehicles that have this function hidden
@@NexusAuto well, yeah i agree..
Great video ! But for your own safety please use gloves - automotive oil, especially used, can have all kinds of heavy metals and carcinogenic gunk in it, that stuff affects your skin, gets in your nails and gets in your food.
Hi Stan. Glad you found the video helpful. And I really appreciate your concern...I completely agree with you. I have a long story that can accompany that, but I won't bother with that. I use gloves all the time now. I never used gloves for many years, even knowing the dangers. Very stupid on my part. I have started to try and show gloves in my videos now. Thanks again!
