The Sugarcubes sounded like nothing else at the time and 30+ years later. Same. Bjork is irreplaceable and we are so lucky to have her.
Actually, I have to disagree. It sounds like Brit pop. a lot of music sounded like this at the time I know a lot about music
Hit and Birthday would also fit to the cure f.e.! But I love björk, no question!
@@randombro89this song, maybe..it was popular on alternative/college radio. Some of of their other songs however are uniquely them.
Agree totally. Had all albums on CD. Tried and tried and tried to "get over it", but sorry, Einar ruined their catalog. IMHO, every song would be better w/o any contribution vocally from him. Back in the day, the radio stations would frequently opine the same thing. Ugh. Re-master?
@@heatherdolores yea i mean just this song only
2024 refreshing vibes! Recently found & I'm obsessed.
RIP my mate Benny Harvey, he loved that rap bit with the wee man there in red. Miss ya big man, gone but not forgotten...
I met Benny Harvey at a charity do in Yoker an he was down to earth an very funny
R.I.P., Benny Harvey
The keys are great on this song. Margrét, like the rest of the band behind Björk, went criminally unnoticed.
Magga did the music for a film called Regina 2001, which had Robbie Rotten
People mention Bjork's looks a lot but I always thought that Margret was even more attractive than Bjork.
Can we all take a moment to appreciate the snare hit in this song?
Amen
the snare deserves definitatelly more than a moment.
I guess is a snare typical of the madchester baggy era with its "funkiness"
Absolutely! 👏🏿
The drum sound is so fucking great ,the rythm base is amazing with the bass.
listening to the sugarcubes always reminds me of my mom because they are one of her favorite bands of all time. specifically this one story she told me about when she went to a sugarcubes concert in the late 80s. she was in the front row and between songs, bjork spotted some bald guy in the front of crowd and went to slap his bald head. she ended up missing and just smacked my mom square in the face. she told me bjork looked horrified afterwards
I can't get over the way she really enunciates some words. I love how she says "Totally"
Björk is an absolute genius when it comes to translating emotion to sound and vision. Almost too much currently. Her new stuff is like visiting a future museum where every piece is almost overwhelming in it's ability to evoke the emotional response of the viewer. Nice for a visit but It would be hard to live there. The dynamics of the Sugarcubes on the other hand, where the emotions come across as highs and lows, the squeals of joy and the growls of distain all mixed up with the driving beat and noodley guitar is the kind of sound art that I want around my house and often have. Thank you, Björk!
Interesting. Why so hard to live "there"? That is to say, what prevents us from living there? Should it?
I love her old eyebrows.
Young Björk is my platonic love.
AGREED (-;
Tomas Mendez they are back behold her caterpillar face in Notget video
X2
@@josh8078 Speak for yourself on the platonic part lmao
her eyebrows are goals nowadays
Back in 89' the Sugarcubes were one of my favorite bands. I wore this tape out! She's always been alluring, provocative, creative, ahead of her time. Maybe even not of this earth.
that part in 1:49 the sounds like "Ég og hann" she sings, is Icelandic for:
"Me and him, me and him we say"
or something like that
As crazy as it sounds, I saw The Sugarcubes and Public Enemy open for U2 on their Zoo TV tour and to this day, it is still the greatest show I have ever seen.
dude that sounds dope as shit...
that does sound crazy - crazy awesome!
dam
Wow, sugarcubes and u2 together? ❤
Yeah! Early nineties were eclectic as sh_t! I am glad that I was at the right age back then (appr. 14) and we had MTV Europe.
Bjork is probably one of the best female vocalist of all time
I think she IS the best. Her voice is so unique and euphoric and no one else puts as much emotion into their music
Agree
I will give you Nanna is an amazing singer,BUT the amount of help people have today to sing really gives anyone an edge. You also need to listen to the vocals and how diverse it can get, pitch and so on. Don't get me wrong Nanna is pretty damn good.
If Liz Frasier and Bjork made a song together it would probably be the most perfect divine song ever. Nico also had a beautiful voice.
Liz Fraser & Bjork duet: oh yes...
First Sugarcubes/Bjork song I ever heard.
BlaqueViolet same here
Same here. I was hooked after that!
BlaqueViolet I got a single promo for free of the sugar cubes with this jam.
This was the first Sugarcubes song I heard, but the first Bjork song I heard was either the gate or it's oh so quiet
me too. wow.
Wow instantly I am transported back to 1992 watching MTV at my dads house ❤
Same. Well, not in your dad’s house though 😂
@@futuristica1710 _laughs_ I wanted to comment exactly just that. 😆
Those 5 notes at 0:11 always make me think James Bond is making his grand entrance.
Yeah
I thought so too
This is the first time I hear this song ever! So amazing!
hahh...i've been listening to this beauty for more than 25 years..hope that you'll do to
awesome song/art
Same here
I bought the cassette tape when it first came out, over 30 years ago, and I still love it. Bjork is a goddess.
I didn't know who the Sugarcubes were but when I saw that bright green cassette cover I knew I had to buy it. They, definitely, blew me away.
I wore this cassette out!
@@gydyup Me, too! I listened to it again last night- On YT, not cassette
I seen Sugar Cubes in Vancouver in 91 I think .. They opened up for U2 the Zoo tour ..Also with Public Enemy ..what a great show !
I thought Public Enemy didn’t play cause Flav couldn’t enter Canada??? 1992
My very first indie crush! Loved the way she spoke and her face is total icelandic princess
I respect how she kept true to herself and never changed for people through out all these years. You know your doing something right when puff daddy thinks your dope lol.
I love the fact that every Warp Records gig I went to she was always there.
Puff Daddy needs to stay away from my dope. He can afford his own.
I would take that as an insult. Puff daddy is a talentless pretentious hack.
@@danieldaniels7571 ummm ok😂
This chorus is still one of the best in pop history.
sounds like a typical 90s song, but then 3 years later Björk released a masterpiece that even today sounds modern, in fact many of todays artists are very influenced by her music from that era
Yes, Bjork really did me in with Post. Oh my goodness!
tealosophy I'd say even "Hit" was particularly different from many of its contemporaries. This still sounds so fresh. But The Sugarcubes could be more of a traditional band sound than some of Bjork's solo stuff, which has perhaps lent Bjork a more 'future-proof' sound.
Are you speaking of Debut? That record is indeed brilliant, although I'm still partial to the Sugarcubes.
tealosophy amazing song bjork is amazing
Moosh Monkey I agrese. Debut was good.. but Post is when Björk finally came to be.
Classic and has stood the test of time. Brilliant.
I SAID OUCH THIS REALLY HURTS
The Sugarcubes...my introduction to Bjork...
Kvyn Gmbyr Wow! You are lucky! I always wanted to see them, and also see Bjork in her solo concerts, but never had the chance. Bjork/The Sugarcubes, The Cure, and The Smiths are my top 3 bands I wanted to see in concert before I died!! It makes me so depressed thinking about it!! Lol!
The 1st time I knew about her also - loved this song and the group! She is adorable and the video is so creative and "out there" -- I mean that in a good way!!
Same here...my track was “Deus” ...still love her 🥰
I saw them at Rutgers University (in the gym!) in 1990.
I like her eyebrows.
+stevethefishdotnet
sexy
+stevethefishdotnet i also want to lick them
I want to pluck them one by one and glue them to my nipples.
jk y'all creepy
I would die for a Sugarcubes live reunion especially knowing how far Björk has come.
Would never happen..I really think that it was an assortment of friends, barley the same band song for song. But she is awesome.
How I miss MTV.... I remember watching this video thousand of times there!
So much joy in her expressions, absolutely love her.
My memory surprises me. It's been over 30 years since I've heard, but feels like yesterday.
everything that she does becomes a masterpiece
I love this lyric " accidentally you seduced me"
This song is timeless...I remember hearing it on KROQ in 1992 and thinking, "this song is absolutely amazing."
I use to listen to KROQ too when I living in Torrance, South Bay... I now live in the central valley but my mom still lives in Gardena! Does KROQ still exist?
Damn y’all are old
SHE IS THE BEST. HER VOCALS ARE ALWAYS IMPRESSIVE.
Different, indeed from the rest of them .
That voice! No one will ever be authentic and unique like Bjork. Now everything is so digitalized and everyone has an army of stylists, make up artists, talk persons and God knows what behind them. No real personality (and voice to match) like Bjork has.
Paloma Faith, is one of those artists that says and does what “she” wants. Paloma comes across as mad as a box of frogs. like Bjork and she has the voice that stands out from the crowd of wannabes.
Only recently discovered this masterpiece. ❣️ I can only imagine how many more incredible songs out there that I've never heard.
This album (Stick Around For Joy) was one of the first three CDs I ever owned. The other two were A Tribe Called Quest’s The low end theory, and Jimi Hendrix’s Electric Ladyland.
Now THAT's a mix...
Am I the only one who actually loves Einar? It wouldn't have been The Sugarcubes without him and his "rapping", yelling and droning in the background. LOL!
Einar and Bjork were the voices in combo that made that band what it is.
colorform69 einar is the best, check out his project ghostigital
colorform69 i was introduced to Sugarcubes first, by purchase....then at sams jams. Your not the only one. I call him ziggy. But no your not the only one. "I said ouch this really Hurts" is classic to me. As is flava flav, of public enemy.
He's a bit like Fred Schneider from the B-52s, but less charismatic and with a much weaker voice.
colorform69
Bjork is seriously the cutest person ever. She's so tiny and pixie like with her little girl like voice. I love her.
Agreed
Siii 😍
I was just saying that I've always thought she's likely the most adorable little person on earth. Hehe.
I love her too!!!!
This beautiful amazing woman...I will always appreciate what her music has inspired in me
This song is such a banger and the video is one of the coolest videos ever. I love Björk and The Sugarcubes so much. It would be so lovely if the band just performed again for just one night or maybe made a tiny little album...
definitely one of the funnest videos ever made and unforgettable
Agreed but best left in the past with live stuff.
I kinda like that they’re not a group making music together anymore, it helps me appreciate the music they did release even more. Kinda like with the Smiths.
Bjork is probaly the mos beautiful woman on earth or in her own planet.
Mad as a bag of frogs though.
Yes
She is so cute
Divine she is
With the exception of other icelands girls
This music is amazingly good or is it Björk that put the spell on us...?..She has something mesmerising the way she looks and sings...I love the Sugarcubes!
What a incredible great voice and song.
Funny, this sounds so much better than when I listened to it years ago. Aged well
You or the song?
good music ahead of it's time
Bjork is an enigma..Amazing
Just love this song and miss the 90´s.
Einar looks like a bloodhound gang member
Bill Hicks so true hahah
Well who came first? ;)
Bjork : beautiful, haunting voice
Einar : Cringe rap
In hindsight, it makes sense she going solo.
@@sansnom5269 Icelandic Fred Schneider fucked up nearly every Sugarcubes song. We get it, who can sing as well as Bjork, but at least try to match the mood. Ditching that band was the best decision of her life.
boy this takes me back, way back
Benny Harvey RIP gone but not forgotten
I bought "Here Today, Tomorrow Next Week!" , on cd. when I was 23... because I heard "Regina" on john Peel's show.
I'm from The Netherlands, NO ONE was playing it here, (and still ! ) ...
I'm 55 now, and I still think, it's one of the best records EVER made !!
After 32 years it still sounds so fresh! It hasn't aged a day ! ( wish I had ! 😆 )
What I love about Bjork is the sheer benevolence of her 'craziness'. She's curious and fun and her music is so original and is from the very best place.
Drums with the base make so much groove, especially at chorus part!
I’ve been listening to her since 1989 she’s awesome
1992.....
Just before I met my wife.
I was delivering mail in Highwood, Illinois..... those days of walking my route and listening to WXRT on my Walkman......
Definitely my favorite musician of all time.
The longing in her voice slays me every time.
In high school, I wore this CD out on replay. I bow down to goddess Bjork for the soundtrack of my teenage years.
Einar rocks!
The song really needed to be more nyanses, because of the repetitive poppy sound, and the rap part really contributed to a more diverse sound
Björk is perfection personified.
One of the greatest bands of all time and Bjork is the most captivating singer of my life time
Trivia: what Bjork is singing in the refrain is “Eg og hann, Eg og hann!”
Icelandic translation: “Me and him, me and him!”
When I first heard the song I thought she was singing “Gedren! Gedren!” (The evil queen in Red Sonja)
Alveg rétt hjá thér ;)
I thought she was saying like "Get behind get behind somethingsomething?"
@@goliaboi YES! I thought it sounded cool, unique, and exotic as heck, but I wasn't AT ALL sure or clear what(?!) she was chanting. @Mike Brannon -- THANK YOU for ending a lyrical mystery that's existed, since early 1992, for me...and, apparently, many others.
Thank you for this comment!
Ha ha haaaaa!
Such an underrated song!
The last time I saw this video was in 1992! This was the song that introduced me to Bjork and The Sugarcubes. I still have the album on cassette tape. :)
Same here.
+bluedasher74 This was also how I came across Bjork and I still have this original song on 12 inch vinyl today. She's also made some great tracks like 'All is full of love' which has to be my favourite.
Same. I fell for Bjork instantly.
Same here.. '92, I was in the army then and I remember the video clip was played a lot on MTV (was still good in those days). I fell in love with Björks beauty and talent from the start.
Back in '92 i was creeped out by Batman Returns
Fuck this song is so good.
God, she's so beautiful and amazing talent!!
I just looked this up after having almost forgotten about it. I had the CD back in the day but I think one of my roommate's friends stole it. Hearing it again gave me chills! I love it!
Me recordó mi niñez y adolescencia... tremenda canción. La amo 2023
The very first song of this genious - Björk - I have ever heard... And this has remained so untill today...
Kids today! Don't they teach anything in the schools?
It's the Sugarcubes not Bjork. She went solo after this.
*****
The only thing worthy of attention in this song is Bjork's voice. This instrumentalization and the voice of this man - a nightmare...
robokopo OK if you think so. Her latest song has none of the drive or musicality of this and is a struggle to listen to for me.
Einar or whatever his name is was the punk side of the Sugarcubes and made them a very exciting band live and in interviews.
+stevefm fm Her solo stuff has been brilliant in my opinion. Very different from the Sugarcubes but not at all lacking drive and musicality! She puts a lot of work into it.
Thank you for defending Einar. He was awesome. These people just want to hear a pretty voice with no contrast I guess.
Simply bloody lovely... ❤️.
I recall being kind of creeped as a kid when the red faced clown is in the hallways going “this really hurts!” That’s the only lyric I remembered to google this song just now.
Happy 50th birthday Bjork!
This band is just so great. Loved them the very first time I've heard them. Never got why they only had a cult following .
The first time I went to a concert was to see the Sugarcubes. They were supporting 808 State in Manchester. 16th March 1991. Great night that I'll never forget. I've got tinitus from the giant speakers to prove it. Hahahaha.
Bjork is so beautiful!
Sin dudas entre las 3 mejores vocalistas femeninas de la historia. Divina Bjork
I used to play this over and over... Bangin cut!
Love at first sight! This is the video that did it!
LaLaVox .
The intro just gets me every time. I can’t help but start twerking
My man
Same
hahah twerkin ok :'D
björk sugarcubes was / is just mesmerizing
back in the day when MTV actually had music videos on and the artist actually were talented musicians
often very unique, which made them even more interesting and lovable
and now 20 / 30 some years later - we still sing along
soundtrack of my ( and many others ) life
March 2021... Still love Bjork so very much!
Never heard this before. Way better than I thought it would be.
Bjork is so good on her own that people forgets how good sugarcubes was.
I used watch 120 mins every Saturday and I always loved this video.
Great kickin beat, but that voice of Bjork, makes you sit up and say WOW with your soul.
This wasn't supposed to happen,
I was happy by myself.
Accidently, you seduced me,
I'm in love again.
I lie in my bed,
Totally still,
My eyes wide open.
I'm in rapture.
I don't believe this,
I'm in love again!
This wasn't
Supposed to happen,
I've been hit
With your charm.
How could you do this
To me?
I'm in love
Again...
I lie in my bed,
Totally still,
My eyes wide open.
I'm in rapture.
I don't believe this,
I'm in love again...
This wasn't supposed to happen!
This wasn't supposed to happen!
A small story which never happened
I said ouch! This really hurts...
That can't be this has been
Practised for millions of years
Therefore we are
Yes, but I, I'm a boy.
A small story which always happens
I said ouch! This really hurts...
This could well be
But this has
Been practised for millions of years,
Therefore we are
Yes, but, you're a girl!
I lie in my bed,
Totally still,
My eyes wide open.
I'm in rapture.
I don't believe this,
I'm in love
Again...
This wasn't supposed to happen.
I lie in my bed,
Totally still,
My eyes wide open.
I'm in rapture.
(rapture)
You've put a seed inside me,
(oh)
And while you're away,
(see...)
It's growing silently,
(to be a life)
Starts in my stomach.
Embraces my insides,
(in time..)
And about to reach my heart.
This wasn't supposed to happen!
This wasn't supposed to happen!
This really hurts!
solid gold chorus....
Oh man this brings me back. Single and in my 20's everything ahead of me.♥️
This is about Bjork finding out she was pregnant, yes? :-)
"This wasn't supposed to happen...........

And while you're away,
It's growing silently,
(to be a life)
Starts in my stomach.
Embraces my insides,

Anna Marie I don't think it's literally her finding out she was pregnant but it sounds more like it was used in a metaphorical sense.
Yes, I thought of the same when I heard the lyrics.
She also late in the video does a motion with her hands like she is pushing out the baby.
The single had graphics of a sperms and egg as well. I thought it was pretty overt and obvious
@@shabankullolli1499 What nice ears you have.
I remember this video. It did help me forget about my day-to-day angst-filled teenage years. That groove is otherworldly.
Love this song!
Listening from SP Brazil.
I love it when I rediscover amazing music!
Björk is very creative as an artist. I like her voice too. She's cute too.
Pasados tantos años y aún así... suena perfecta esta canción. ¡Me encanta! Voy a desempolvar ahora mismo el CD.
When I first saw this I so thought BJork was like 12. I was amazed at her talent! I knew then she was a force to reckon with!
wow, been a björk fan since early 90s thou this is the first time i really get this song, thats a masterpiece i d say. see you in vienna in september björk
No hay duda de que Bjork es de las mejores artistas que han existido. Increíble la versatilidad que mostró desde sus inicios.
For 1991, this is so close to being Trip Hop
Oh, Bjork, your voice makes me travel to the enchanted world of happiness!
