  • The Department of Labor reported 4.3 million Americans quit their jobs in August while 10.5 million jobs remained open in the same month. Economists point to a number of factors, including a reassessment during the pandemic by Americans who want more from their work. NBC’s senior business correspondent Stephanie Ruhle reports in this week’s Sunday Focus.

Why is no one protesting the outrageous housing market. The main reason minimum wage isn’t livable is because the housing market is through the roof. Houses and apartments are more expensive than they’re even worth.

The elites and big banks are buying up all the properties and sending prices up because they easily out bid common people. and their doing it at such a high rate that sellers know this and that they can get more....so its a market trend that is causing the rise in cost. Why would banks and elite be buying up so much realty??? Its part of the agenda for "the great reset". We will own nothing and be happy they say. Banks usually hate holding onto homes. They are not in the realty or rental business. But there's a new agenda..... & This is them taking over the housing market so they can redistribute & reconstruct it their way. Just look up why the worlds biggest shadow bank, "Black Rock Banking System is buying up realty".

I was unaware. My wife's company requires her to sign an employment contract, which basically states that anyone can be fired for taking a sick day (after the 3 they give you), no matter how sick you may be (hard to believe I know, but that is what it says). I personally don't want my sick coworkers coming in and infecting me, but this contract will certainly push that circumstance. Looked into it, and in the state of Georgia it is perfectly legal (and VERY common). Previously, I though unions had played an important role in the past, but may not be necessary in today's market. I've changed my mind on that. Employers routinely push policies that show a blatent disregard for employees well being. I guess greed is the underlying driver on this; I honestly don't understand it. If you go to retail, They pay you miserably and they don’t even give you the hours you need to pay your bills, and some of them have not benefits and they rather have 60 associates instead of caring for 10 people that would be loyal to the company. It’s really messed up out there

If overtime pay wasn't mandated by an overreaching government, i would be working 50-60 hrs/week at my main job right now, and not 35 hours there and 15-20 at a different gig. You can't blame companies not wanting to be forced to pay more than they have to. Overtime is one of those tax scams the government pulls to make it seem like the working man is actually scoring a win. Really, it stifles the economy. Not to say there aren't other factors, but that is a big one in the scenario you mentioned.

This is so true people aren't getting that unless they are the ones trying to get work and get enough hours. All these places are hiring too many people have huge turnovers because not much pay and they don't want to give each employee but maybe 15 to 20 hours a week....no one can survive and pay just living expenses on that and are forced to get 2 or 3 part time jobs and try to get each one to juggle the hours among them and then they want to give you a hard time about that as well. It's a disgrace how these big companies are treating employees.

@@Scorpio-- They are not "avoiding" benefits and healthcare... They are avoiding costs that, if incurred, would put them out of business. So some companies are trying to raise prices. That works for a while... until the people now getting more pay (with benefits) see that the prices of everything are now higher, and they are right back where they started.
Let's talk about the benefits for a moment...
You want to make healthcare affordable? GET RID OF INSURANCE COMPLETELY. If there was no insurance, no one would be able to afford healthcare under the current prices and the healthcare providers would have no choice but to lower prices to a level that everyone could afford - and then everyone could afford it.
It's really simple. Of course, no one understands that.

After he received the expanded benefits, he got a letter that his employer didn't let him go for the pandemic--they'd fired him. He was never told! He was expected to pay back the money--which had allowed him to rent an apartment and survive his unemployment. He fought it in court, and the court sided with him. But the former employer wouldn't let it go, and continued to insist he wasn't entitled to the benefits. If I could remember their name I would gladly shame them here. They've done the math and literally all most companies would have do is increase prices by PENNIES to maintain the same profits and pay a decent wage. But let's be real, they don't even have to do that because major corporations' profit margins are absolutely insane.
Why work yourself to death, be abused by the higher-ups, and not even be able to afford a place to live?
You can only oppress people for so long before they fight back. The wealth gap in the US right now is worse than it was during the French Revolution. It's long past time people fight back.

The new model is the "revolving door" of hiring new employees, using them while they are eager, then getting rid of them before it comes time for their raise. I don't see why any worker would tolerate that business model and there is backlash to that business model. No one cares about their jobs or the consequences of doing subpar work. Why should they? Unfortunately it's just not possible logistically for everyone to start their own business. Otherwise nobody would work for anyone. Most businesses downplay the importance of their employees in favor of a higher salary for themselves. It's impossible to be a successful business without people and people need to start understanding their own worth.

Or they act like starting their own business is the easiest solution. They want the easy way out and then when they find out that starting your own business isn’t just setting up crafts they made on Etsy for 20 time the cost they paid to make it, then they give up on that. Some people just don’t want to work and make every excuse. The biggest examples are micro breweries. We literally have thousands of them in Wisconsin. They set up shop and within a couple of years they are out of business because it’s a hot ticket item to start and people realize it’s just the same beer they can buy anywhere.

Different models and parameters are used by different industries but *850FINANCIAL ASSESSMENT* info is pretty much universal. If you're trying to max your credit scores, there is a happy medium between too many credit cards and none. Too many cards with zero balnce may actually hurt you in some cases. Even if you do not use them, you have a potential. To always pay cash & still have cards doesn't help your scores as well

2020 enabled something that government and business don’t like...time to think. People had time to think about their lives. They had time to think about what is considered “essential” work and workers. They had time to watch the stock market rally and government wringing their hands as they agonized and bickered amongst themselves when trying to decide whether to give a few measly hundred dollars to help people during a pandemic. People had the chance to see government work to preserve the status quo for businesses and the wealthy. Many people are taking the jump to work for themselves. Good for them! I’m excited that people are taking their destiny into their own hands. After all, isn’t that the American way?

The Goverment/Tax Payers are actually Subsidizing these companies, because a person working a minimum wage full-time job still qualify for food stamps and other Goverment benefits. Get PAID! CEOs need to learn that they shouldn’t be making 400x more than those that they employ. We need more PAID leave, healthy work life balance, flexible hours, work from home options, daycare, benefits, profit sharing or stock options, vacation time, and the end of unpaid overtime, and lengthy commute reimbursement (if your company insists in being in an expensive city, either provide the salary required to live there, or offer reimbursement for time lost commuting). I lost 2.5 hours a day for 6 years going into Seattle from the city of Snohomish because that was the only place I could afford).
