I really enjoyed this video, very helpful I've only been on 2 cruises and 1 of them was around the time spoke of in the video we were out right after Harvey with the other hurricanes manifesting, but everything was fine for the most part, yes we had one day of sea sickness myself, hubby & kids, but not bad enough to discourage us from going back out, which I'm planning for ’19.... can't wait!!! I love your videos. I'm a new subscriber so I'm late on this one. I have a lucky upgrade story. We will also be cruising on Oct 26 on the Carnival Elation. It's an older ship but just got renovated. We booked a window room before the renovation and just found out it's now a balcony. Same room but with an added balcony! I can't wait. Thanks for all your great info.

We just went on oasis and booked a week before online for an inside cabin,one day before departure we called to see if they could upgrade us due to any cancellations and the upgraded us for free to a great balcony ocean view room near central park

A few years ago, a friend of mine and her LARGE family were planning a cruise on the NCL Sun. She kept asking if we wanted to go, and I kept putting it off. They had all planned this cruise for several months, flying in from all around the country, planning every excursion, etc.
The day before they were to leave she asked me again and I told her I would call the cruise line and if they had a cabin left, we would go.
I called NCL and someone had cancelled that morning. I got an (drum roll please) Owner's Suite for the price of an inside cabin.
I've since done the same thing a couple of times and you would be surprised at the great rooms you can get if you can wait until the last minute. They would rather have someone in the cabin than to sail with an empty room.
It's not for everyone, but I’ve had good luck!

I had a TBA room and when we were assigned we were given the same type of room but a different class (we booked midship, paid a premium for this and was assigned a cheaper room at the back of the ship). i complained and as all the oceanview rooms and balconies were full, we were upgraded to a suite for an oceanview price

Very informative and very entertaining. I hope you get an upgrade on your next cruise. I agree with you about choosing the inside cabin but having a balcony is definitely a better experience. I only book a balcony if the price is affordable or I am lucky enough to get a free upgrade. The way I see it, if I can cruise twice in an inside cabin for the price of one cruise in a balcony, I am booking the balcony. We are leaving on the NCL Jade for a TA in a few days. We have an inside cabin and I am going to try your tip about inquiring about an upgrade on day 2 of our cruise. Thanks a bunch for the tips!

As I have already booked my cabin right along with 2 other couples. Today we found out that the ship that we are booked on will no be sailing out of New Orleans so the new ship we are upgraded to the Haven. I can not wait. Our cruise will be March 31, 2119. Not bad from aft suite to aft Haven suite.

I am going to try your tip number 7. I go on a cruise this Saturday. And I am not afraid of asking for free upgrades. As I do that anywhere I go (like you said worse case they say no and your in your same room).

Another good video! My wife and I made a fairly modest bid and were upgraded from inside to balcony on the Escape recently. We figured what the heck and would have been happy in the inside cabin as always. On caveat for NCL, some of the extra bonuses are not available when booking a guaranteed cabin, I think they are calling them sail away fares now.

I am hoping to get an upgraded room, i booked an interior room, and I went thru carnival NOT an agent but hopefully they treat me just as good as an agent wld

Just happened to find your channel by chance and have been binge watching your cruise videos :) We are NCL first timers (previously sailed with RCL, Celebrity and Princess) and will be on the Jade in late January with our 3 year old daughter who is a wheelchair user. However, we do not have a handicapped room (now wondering if we should have gotten one) because our daughter's wheelchair is small since it's for a toddler. I just hated the thought of booking a handicapped room and taking it away from someone else who really, really needed it. Anyways, LOVE the last tip you gave! I never would have thought about asking for an upgrade while on a cruise.

As regular cruisers, you know the size of the cabins you book, so if there's enough room for your daughter's small wheelchair, then I say you made the right decision. We loved the NCL Gem. We looking for a ship to research when / if it had a renovation (went into dry dock for refurbishing). If the ship has just been renovated...that means new carpets, furniture, decor and new fresh crew members. Also...stay away from Atlantic Ocean hurricane season. (June 1st - November 30th). We went on The NCL Jade October/November, toward the end of the season and we were fine.

Originally my husband and I were booked into a AFT handy-capable cabin. My sister was a polio victim 1952 and stuck in a wheelchair at the end 1992, which got me to thinking. Why would she (our agent) book us into such a room, when we aren't in wheel chairs, and not needing those facilities? I had her change that up for a regular AFT balcony, smaller, but everything we needed. Glad for that decision and love your videos!!

I don't know if you have addressed this on any video, but while this is not about an upgrade here is something to think about: If you are on a cruise with assigned dining room seating and you do not like the people you are seated with, contact the restaurant people (usually during the day), and they will move you. I think you can pretty consistently get this. In my case, I only did this once- I was cruising alone and at a six top table I was with a family of 5 (plus me, obviously). NONE of the family would speak to me or even recognize my existence. I figured I could not put up with a week of that, and when I got my new table, I was with five other really nice people. If I had known it was that easy, there was another time when I would have done it, as well. On 6 other cruises, I was seated with nice people to begin with, or in the case of NCL, I was on some sort of casual seating arrangement a couple of times such that seating was not assigned anyway. Probably more important for true solo travellers than couples.

You guys are so cute!! I subscribed to your channel so I can hear about all your adventures and suggestions. My husband and I always book a cruise for New Years Eve on Carnival.It's a bit more expensive, but it's the greatest and safest party ever! We even got upgraded once due to the early am and PM noise from the crew gym. We also got a cheap balcony last year due to price decreases caused by the hurricanes. For my upcoming NYE cruise, I paid less than $100 for an upgrade from a interior to a oceanview! Here's another tip: always keep an eye out on prices to see if what you paid decreases. Carnival will either have pay less if you haven't paid in full or give you the difference in cruise credit.

What ports are not worth going too? What about changing currency, do they do that on the ship? Or should I do that at my back?
I can't answer the question "what ports are not worth going to" Its all a personal choice. As for currency exchange, most cruise lines are equipped to exchange small sums of money. However you are at the mercy of there exchange rate and hours the pursers office exchanges currency. Its best to exchange money at your local bank if you need to prior to sailing and then if you find you need more cash you can always use the ship or a local ATM. Keep in mind local banks often have to order foreign currency so plan accordingly.

Do you have a particular travel insurance company you use when traveling. If you choose the one offered by the cruise line is the coverage good or should you look elsewhere?
We always shop around for the best insurance deal at the time.
I have a balcony booked on the NCL Dawn for the end of April. I got an email that I can upgrade my room. I’m not interested in a mini suite and the next tier up is an aft Penthouse suite. Min bid is $300pp ($600). Are aft rooms super noisy from propellers, etc? And do you personally think it’s worth $600 to upgrade? Bigger room, bigger balcony, Butler and concierge. Plus, that’s a minimum bid and might not even get accepted. I’d love your thoughts.
Kevin and I always book the room that we feel we want and don't hope / wait for an upgrade offer to come. For us, we have to book a handicap cabin, so an upgrade offer to the next level usually doesn't have a handicap cabin available. Thus rendering the offer useless. The penthouse suites are very few, so people will bid a mid to higher bid, not the low minimum. It also depends on your priorities. Bigger cabin, more room, butler, concierge.....sounds great. But will you use them to the tune of $600 + ?? If that's important, then good. Maybe, just for the one time experience. We think that the cabin is the least of our concerns. We 'd like our $$$ to be spent on other things, like excursions, gifts and souvenirs, more specialty dining, etc..... We had an aft cabin on the Gem in Feb. 2017 and there was no noise, but we hit a storm coming down the east coast and we thought our cabin was going to break apart, while Kevin was puking. That being said, it was an extreme storm and aft cabins generally have more motion to them....which is why we book mid-ship cabins.

Hi boys :) just wondering if you can get offered an offer to bid for an upgrade on RCCL if you have booked an accessible cabin? Also we have booked one on our ovation of the seas cruise in November but I am not wheelchair dependant all of the time. Some times (if I'm having a good day) I can walk around. If I use my wheelchair only half of the cruise and walk around the other half, do you think that RCCL may actually change our cabin to a standard cabin as I'm not 100 per cent wheelchair dependent
The reason why we can never take part in an upgrade bid, is because when you originally book an accessible cabin, which we have to, and they are very limited on ships...... 99.99 % of the time, your upgrade will be a regular cabin. If you can live with that, then you are good to go and put your bid in.
Hi hoping you might have some insights for me. My mom and I are going on our very first cruise in November in the Mediterranean on Costa Deliziosa. My mom has stage 4 cancer and while she can still walk, she struggles with long distances. We are planning on getting her a wheelchair for part-time use at ports etc. Any tips for ports in Venice, Bari, Corfu, Santorini, Athens, or Dubrovnik? We will also be making a stop in Istanbul.

The amount of the money you bid, is strictly what you're comfortable with and what you think it's worth. Remember......the $100 bid you put in, is per person, so if you get it, you're paying $200.
Is it better to book online or are you more likely to get little upgrades or specials by calling in?
There are advantages and disadvantages to every which way you can book !!

Well, let's see.......I have a few questions 1st. Will it be 1 adult or 2 adults with the 2 kids ? You love your kids...but how close confined do you want to be with them in the cabin ? A basic inside cabin or oceanview cabin or balcony or mini-suite ??? All different sizes and all different prices. You have to ask the question....." Am I worried about $$$ or having enough space in my room. " That will determine what size cabin you get. On Carnival...they have adjoining cabins, like hotel rooms do. But if you book that type of situation....there must be 1 adult in each room with each child. So parents would have to split up for the night. Or, get the cabin with 2 bunk beds or suite with 2 bedrooms. Lots of choices. Hope we've helped you out !!

Wonder how the hurricanes will effect cruising, heard st marteen hit hard
It's so very sad !!! After all the times we've been to St. Maarten's......to see it totally devastated is heartbreaking. We'll be leaving on OUR cruise in 35 days, where San Juan, PR was to be our 1st stop. They're getting hit right now by hurricane Maria, another cat. 5. storm. Their Governor stated that he expects that after Maria is done......they will be 100% without power.
matt burns I was on carnival in Sept and our whole trip was rearranged to another group of islands due to hurricane.
What happened to your cruise with the hurricane season during your cruise?
We just had one port changed. Puerto Rico was cancelled....we went to Dominican Republic instead.
It makes absolutely NO SENSE to me that cruise line would bother to upgrade an existing customer in order to sell lower end cabins instead of simply reducing/slashing the prices of available cabins. So they could just make the balcony the same price as the inside cabin instead of asking a person inside to move to balcony in order to sell the inside.
Two things......people love to get an upgrade.....and people love to win ! Maybe that's the catch. ?

You can apply all these strategies to all cruise lines.... including but not limited to NCL except for bidding for an upgrade which, at this point, is exclusive to NCL.

Bidding is NCL (Norwegian) specific. If you booked a cruise with NCL then you might get an email or sometimes it shows up on your MyNCL account on the home page as an option to "bid" for an upgrade!!
Don't book through AAA, they are about worthless. We did all of our own foot work with everything. We booked our own plane, we found our cruise (But did book through aaa) They booked our hotel, (Which cancelled on us back in Nov. without telling us or aaa) We happened to call the hotel to update a credit card and they were like oh that reservation was cancelled 2 months ago... AAA did NOTHING for us.
So sorry that happened to you, Denise. Good to know about AAA. We always use the same agent at cruises.com. I usually do all the leg work as I enjoy it.

Hello fellas, I am interested in going on a celebrity cruise ship. I am a foodie and it will be my first time. Any suggestions on when to book? My birthday is in January. I want to do 5 days at most. I don't want mediocre food. However I am not rich and don't want to go into debt for the higher end choices any suggestions? Thank you in advance
Not sure what you're asking........but January IS a good time to go to warm Caribbean islands...if that's your thing. Do your research online at the Celebrity website. What port are you nearest to ? Driving to or flying to ? What type of vacation do you want ? Celebrity generally likes to do 7 + night cruises....but they do have some limited 2-3-4 night cruises. It's hard for us to advise you, when we don't have a lot of information.
Cruising with wheels i want to do my first Cruise. I read reviews that said,"great food on Celebrity cruise line". What is the best package to get that wont break the bank. I would like a great dining experience and not buffet type eating. Any suggestions? I want you leave from San Diego it's closer to me.

Is it possible just to call guest services and ask about upgrading your cabin rather than asking in person? I find that their behavior is different for women and POC but if they can’t see you then you will get the same response as a White male would.
