Traveling Alone in Central Mongolia

- In order to really test our travel skills, we are are headed off to travel alone in Central Mongolia for the next three days. So much happened on this adventure that we had to split it into two videos! This first video covers day 1 and gives a look into what Mongolia is really like to travel in. Mongolia is one of the least densely populated countries in the world, so outside of the capital city the people are few and far between. While that kind of solitude is something we love, it also means that getting lost or stranded on our own could be really dangerous!
To make sure we were as prepared for this adventure as possible, we rented a 4X4 vehicle from Eternal Nomads that came with a roof top tent and all the equipment needed to live out of this truck. We loved being self contained and off-road capable - the latter bit is absolutely essential in order to travel independently in Mongolia! If you want to rent a vehicle from Eternal Nomads on your own trip to Mongolia, you can contact Nurka via What'sApp at +976 9419 3612.
Our journey on this first day of the road trip begins in Ulaanbaatar, the capital city of Mongolia. We quickly learned that the highways in Mongolia are no joke - people drive at fast speeds but there are a lot of pot holes to dodge, so we really had to pay attention! We stopped at Hustai National Park to search for the last wild horses and ended up fighting off a swarm of wasps all through lunch (thanks, Mongolia) before hitting the road again. If you're wondering what Mongolia is like, then this video will give you a pretty good idea. We make our way through small towns in search of coffee, come across every farm animal imaginable (except there are no farms around), and see more epic Mongolian landscapes.
After some off-roading in the sand, we find our home for the night in an area commonly referred to as the "Mini Gobi" because there are small sand dunes here for those who can't make it as far as the actual Gobi Desert (if you want to check out the real Gobi, we had a pretty epic time on our visit • 5 Days Living in Mongo... ). I know it took a while, but we finally give you a full tour of our Land Cruiser once we've got the rooftop tent up!
We ended up in Mongolia on a bit of a whim and very last minute, so we didn't really know the best things to do in Mongolia before arriving here. We are SO glad we rented a car and drove through Central Mongolia on our own as part of our adventures in this country. This is definitely making out "top things to do in Mongolia" list, and would recommend this experience to anyone traveling in Mongolia. But, it might be best to join a group tour first just so you know what to expect once you're out in the middle of Mongolia. This is a rugged and rough country because of the terrain and low population density, so you've got to be prepared to handle whatever might come your way.

your first video of Mongolia series popped up on my recommended today, and as a Mongolian citizen living abroad, this video makes me so happy to see travelers around the world come visit and see the beautiful nature 💕 and it also made me miss home, in a good way 🥹 I wish you guys all the best and hope you’ll come back to Mongolia again :)
Awe thank you! We’re so glad we can give you a happy taste of your home country 😊 Mongolia is so gorgeous, it has made its way onto our “must visit again” list!
Thanks for roughing it out in Mongolia for the viewers guys. I like watching the steppe. Yep, looks like Austria except for the bees.
Thanks for watching! We really hope to do this again one day but go for a few weeks. There’s so much to see!
That scenery is breathtaking!
BTW, it's time for Toyota to sponsor you all😂
Glad you're having a good time in Mongolia!
A Toyota sponsorship would be pretty amazing 😂 So glad you enjoyed the video!
What an amazing unique experience! Love this Mongolia adventure!
Thank you so much!
What an amazing view and sunset from your camping spot. And you guys didn't realize your fully loaded rental also came with complementary GPS, goat protection services. 😂
Hahaha only in Mongolia would GPS mean Goat Protection Services, but you are totally right 😂😂😂
7:25 The background reminds me of a Microsoft screensaver. The scenery of Mongolia is incredible and vast!
Totally! There are so many amazing sights like that in Mongolia. We are truly blown away!
Keep up the good work ♥♥ FROM MONGOLIA
Thank you!

@@nicoleandmico I mean it! 😇💖🙏🙏
Omg. That’s awesome ❤
Thank you for visiting us in Mongolia. Hope you enjoyed your trip. As a Mongolian, warmly welcome to the Mongolia again, Next time try to travel the Khuvsgul dalai during summer and winter. You will see two different views and sceneries, two different vibes. Mongolian winter is super cold as you mentioned. But if you keep yourself warm, its really beautiful. Goodluck :)
Thanks for the tips! We can’t wait to visit again one day!
Y'alls vlogging get better each time. It's amazing....been following you all since the beginning. Keep up the excellent work.
Thank you! It’s so nice to hear that ☺️
You are welcome. Actually still watching this video. Y'all are talking about the crazy potholes. LOL@@nicoleandmico
absolutely wonderful and loving 🥰
Thank you so much! 😊
I'm surprised you didn't rent a Prius! 😂 Loving the video so far!
Hahaha you’re totally right 😂 I think only true Mongolians are equipped to be out there in a Prius 😅
@@nicoleandmico but prius are eco-friendly
Pruis, in general, is not great for going to countryside places, tho
this video has whole lot of effort, nice job guys!
Thank you so much!
Holy cow thats beautiful
Usually travel videos from Mongolia come across a bit pretentious or unauthentic, but I appreciate that you guys seem genuinely positive and tried the tour group route first and supported local businesses before going solo to really see the country 😊
Thank you!! We love how our trip went in Mongolia ☺️
Hi! I am so happy that you are enjoying beautiful sights of Mongolia. We, Mongolians, even spend years traveling around the country because everything is so dispersed and there are so many beautiful sights. And, btw, Mongolians paint their sheep and goats with color to distinguish which one belongs to which farmer. I hope you guys come back later and explore more. I might as well give you guys ideas since my father was a tourist driver. In addition, make sure that you will try traditional dairy products, such as “airag=айраг” and “aaruul=“ааруул”. And because Gobi Desert is famous, there is even Gobi chocolates 😊 Have a wonderful time ☺️
So good
I hope your trip was amazing ❤
Driving around Mongolia is the best experience! 🤩
Wow another amazing video of your journey. I'm truly grateful that you are enjoying our country and staying positive all the time. Even though there were several obstacles on your trip hehe. Also, the car choice was great. Land cruisers are highly known offroad cars lol. Is there another video coming up about your journey in Mongolia? Cuz you don't disappoint and i'm excited to see it
Our pleasure! We’re not in Mongolia now but hope to be back one day!
It is really amazing
We totally agree 😍
Great series guys :))))
Glad you enjoyed it! 😃
nice beautiful thanks guys
Our pleasure!
Beautiful drone action . You guys have too much energy. Welcome to my beautiful country.
Thank you 🙌
Hope you had a fantastic time here in Mongolia! Cheers from Mongolia 🇲🇳!
Thank you!!
Thank you so much, i felt like i travelled with you guys in the car 😂. Absolutely great ❤.
Oh good! That was our hope with this video. We were so excited to take you all along for the ride (literally 😅)
Yeah after watching the videos, I am so motivated to travel 👍🏻👍🏻. Especially, the moment of you guys were catching sunset in gobi dessert was like a movie ending ❤. Thank you 🙇🏻🙇🏻
Great video guys! This is how it felt like driving through Namibia. Just barren deserts and then out of nowhere, beautiful mountains. Super secluded and peaceful! Hope I can travel to Mongolia very soon!
Great video! Looks like the kind of place that if your dog (or goat) ran away, you’d still be able to see it for days 😁
Haha you’re right! We watched our little baby goat from our truck most of the night after he wandered away 😂
I hope you visit again! I hope you had an enjoyable stay in my beautiful country :)
I hope so too!
Beautiful
Thank you
Talented CZcamsrs
Thank you! 😊
Love it that you two picked up a early Toyota Prado because the newer generations suck at offroad❤
That’s good to know! This truck seemed awesome off road. We put it to the test a bit more in the next video and it held up great
As a mongolian this just brings me back memories of when I was camping with my family
So cool! We loved it!
I am mongolian and i live abroad your video made me homesick ❤
So glad you enjoyed it 😭🥹
That's a real adventure. In a foreign land in Central Asia driving a 4x4 and exploring the frontiers!😅😊👍
Our only regret is not going for longer! Our dream would be to do at least 3 weeks like this through Mongolia 😁
@nicoleandmico That'll qualify to be an adventure of a lifetime!
Loved your vedio😊
Thank you 😊
❤❤❤
whoa! what an offroading adventure you guys had...thanks for sharing ...
QQ, on a scale of 1-10, how easy is it to get ANY vegetarian food in Mongolia either in UB or while off roading?
it's cute that u say those roads High ways. Thank you xD
😁
YOU TWO NEED TO GO TO THE ULAAGCHNI KHAR NUUR
ITS IN ZAVKHAN
Mico got Mongolian tan 😅 dude got it in him 😂
Haha maybe 🤔 😅
I really miss my country of eternal blue sky. I totally took it for granted before moving to the gloomy city of london haha! Ya'll are so brave for doing unguided tour in the vast valleys of Mongolia! Loved watching your videos. You've got a really good energy❤
Our pleasure! We miss Mongolia 🇲🇳!
Im glad that at lease one couple living their good choice of live style and having fun with their young age before shits happen with stupid city life. Try keep up with that life style guys, don’t come to this measurable city life! Enjoy
Missed this comment but I love it. Thank you!
the little goat has a paint on it bc it's got an owner! the nomads separate each others' livestock by painting theirs in a different color so it is easier to spot who belongs to who !
Thanks for the info! So cool
don't worry. Ulaanbaatar cars do not charge tolls when entering and exiting Ulaanbaatar
O good to know! Thank you
Is it worth traveling to Mongolia? I am also planning to travel there in the coming summer
HAHHAHAHAHAHHAA I JUST GOT TO THE SINGING AT THE END YALL REALLY DID IT
Hahaha we do our best to deliver 😂😂😂
How did you guys even rent that car 😮 I heard it is almost impossible/overly expensive
that little goat is definetely sick man. normally they dont act like that.
oh wow i thought u guys travelled during winter
Thankfully no! It would be waaaaaayyy too cold. As Canadians, we avoid winter in all countries including our own 😂
@@nicoleandmico Why did u upload so late tho
I think that goat under your car because it was hot? Idk. It looks like he liked the shadows under the car.
Yeah he stayed for a long time too! 🐐 so cute though
Сайиуу гэдэг
Thank you!
when was this recorded?
In the summer! At this particular moment, Mongolia is COLD 😅
Did you buy this car or rented?
We rented it :)
we love ur vid but please dont go off road in areas that has little green areas with weeds in elsen tasarkhai group of people trying to save that places from becoming deserts
Thank you for letting us know!
