It's crazy how T always turns up at these 2GGC tournaments
I think both g&w and link are high tier. Neither are top tier. G&W just wins this matchup I think. Especially maisters g&w style. Very safe, fast, and punishing. Link can't land, and his grounded attacks just have way to much lag for this matchup.
Wow. First time gnw is viable in this series and people just complain because they dont understand the matchup.
I feel like Gnw is just garbage in certain mu. His mu chats has just amazing synergy with the current meta

@@LoadedKlip just adapt. You cant really punish his moves on shield but you can wiff punish(run away as he comes in, let him use his move then comeback to punish him). Other than that I feel like it is just experience
@@LoadedKlip Punishing his approach is a pretty big thing in the G&W matchup. For everything he has, his approach game is relatively predictable, that being aerials or grab. His dash attack can cross up but really doesn't give him any advantage other than maybe stage control, no specials to help his approach, his dash-cancel into tilts isn't anything to write home about (most aren't even safe on shield, except maybe a far spaced jab). His only real approaches is 1. Landing Nair. Multi-hit, and can cross up. It helps to have a good OoS option for the cross-up, but you should be relatively fine to just shield through it. 2. Double falling Fair, or single Fair -> Shield Pressure. G&W can jump high enough to get 2 Fairs out on your shield while falling, this can get you stuck in shield and can be really bad as you're forced to sit in shield while G&W can do anything he wants. Usually you either have to get out as soon as you see him going for it, or challenge it with a quick aerial to destroy the bombs and hit him. 3. Grab. His double Fair can set up for a guaranteed grab situation, and can G&W get off tomahawks. His dash grab has enough end lag to punish it on spotdodge, and his standing grab doesn't have so much range. At low percents G&W will almost always be going either for Nair or Grab, as these are his big combo starters.
T really had a breakout here tho no lie I haven’t seen him at anything until now.
The Japanese don't really come out for anything less than super S tiers.
This matchup is pretty difficult for Link, but not as hard as Palutena
I was once in a online tournament/twitch stream with Maister, and he basically said the only way for link to win against G&W is to play super campy. Throw a lot of boomerangs and bomb (rarely detonating them), and accept that he will reflect almost everything and that the pace of the match will be fucking glacial. That isn't really T's style, though, so if Maister if right about how Link should play the matchup, it makes sense why he lost so conclusively.

My guess would have probably something to do with the z axis and gnw being 2d meaning spinning moves have a smaller window to hit him? Not too sure tho
I think Link’s Up-b is different from young and toon link’s. I think I heard it only has active frames at the beginning and before it ends not sure tho
@@rabidspanial737 GnW has a 3d model except during his attacks. I think Bink's up-b just has a delay between the second last and final hit that was big enough for a GnW d-smash.
It's interesting to see the same people that demand every character be rushdowns, are also pissed off by a character who is being played just as aggressively as any Fox or Pikachu.

I think there are more characters and moves who need to be nerf before :
- Arsene form Bair and Uair knockback nerf.
- ZSS Down B on shield nerf (more punishable to prevent down b spam).
- Palutena's damage output (overall damage nerf but just a little).
- Peach overall damage output nerf.

Link needs a buff... How unbalanced this trash is has never been more apparent. Like WTF is this. Seriously, no bread and butter combos for Link, and G&W gets easy 40-80% like it's nothing.
This hurts especially when you are the hero of Hyrule. People expect link to do fucking Z-drop combos in majors smh.
@@RavenPaven right?! Like one character has to mash some crazy practiced combos while the other just presses some aerials and up B and does damage and wins games.
@@navataru Boomerang into fair basically is barely able at 90+ you need to read the opponements jump, down tilt into up special also is sometimes easily di able. And Z-Drop Combos are not working against small characters like G&W. It's sad that a iconic gaming character like Link needs to camp to win most matchups.
@@RavenPaven yup the character move designing from a casual vs competitive setting is ill adjusted. Its like trying to be both at once.

@@elim9054 I've faced maybe one good GnW in elite smash. The rest have been basic and very predictable. Link should get wrecked in this matchup as you see here. Especially with how aggressive T was playing throughout the tournament. He needed to slowdown just a bit and let maister approach. Setting up traps with bomb and boomerang... but that clearly isn't his style lol
He's a better Link player than myself, but he seems a bit inflexible, so far as adapting goes. Strange to say because he played really well against mkleo.
