A performance by these young singers, 7 years ago now. I hope each one of them will continue to draw on the beauty of music through their lives. Thank you to the conductor and, above all, to Morten Lauridsen, not forgetting the poet James Agee

This is a wonderful performance of what has become one of my favorite short choral works. What a treat to have Dr. Lauridsen at the piano.

I Love how Morten Lauridsen avails himself to the young and new so they can absorb his superb sense of time and all the other beautiful gifts he has to offer. He draws a beautiful performance from those who are in his presence. An amazing gentle-Man. You learn More from the BEST.

The singing is superb for a High School choir. Mighty impressive, I say. God bless these talented young people and the conductor and pianist.

Great to hear this wonderful piece accompanied by its composer. Other conductors observe his tempo!

Accompanists take note! That is the composer himself at the piano, emulate what he does.

I love the fact that the choir are singing 'scrambled'! It makes for a much more cohesive sound, instead of having blocks of different voices. I love singing 'scrambled'! Beautiful interpretation and no music!

I'd love to know what reasons are there for having separately grouped parts. It's obviously easy to train that way, and people will sing more confidently if they hear those next to them singing the same thing, but that's psychological.

Yes, I agree. My church choir in Hartford, CT. sang "scrambled", as you call it. At first I found it a challenge, but grew to prefer it, as I had all parts close by, and could more effectively hear and strive for a more balanced whole, than when singing in sections in various choral societies. Also it encouraged greater independence, rather than on relying slavishly on one's neighbors for, pitch, tempo, etc. Good discipline!

    Sure On This Shining Night
    Sure on this shining night
    Of star made shadows round,
    Kindness must watch for me
    This side the ground.
The late year lies down the north.
All is healed, all is health.
    High summer holds the earth.
    Hearts all whole.
Sure on this shining night I weep for wonder wand'ring far
    alone
    Of shadows on the stars.
