  • Bitterness can keep us from stepping boldly into the purpose God has for us. Bitterness can keep us tied to our grudges. But bitterness can’t hold onto us-we hold onto it, and we can learn to let it go. In this message, Pastor Craig Groeschel will show you the root of bitterness, what the fruit of bitterness looks like, and how you can avoid bitterness through forgiveness and compassion.

    This broke my heart, knowing I've got bitterness in my heart for ones I love. I started listening to series this for an issue I knew I had & I also needed to hear this.

    A conversation with a close friend about hurt and bitterness prompted my search for a biblical lesson on bitterness. I hesitated to listen because I just didn't want to listen to another man preach but I'm glad the Spirit prompted me to listen and to be humble to learn. I've entertained bitterness in my heart and mind for too long. There's too much at stake to allow this to continue. Thank you for posting your lessons and for being real about your own heart. And thank you for using God's word.

    Bitterness was rooted in my life through work, my family and friends. I continue to struggle, however, I realize now how important it is to let go. I cannot change others it is my response that will make the difference. I need to work daily on self control. I ask for prayer to do this. Thank you.

    I see how God has been reaching to me, He used your great channel for me to realize that in my situation now is not because of the other person, my former husband who is still taking care of me in spite of my mental illness, but the bitterness I held on for a long time against him. That I felt justified to leave him. That I thought Jesus was with me as I will walk out, but instead He wants me to stay and learn to let go of my bitterness that have blinded me for all these years. So now I choose to stay and unroot them no matter how deep they have put me into. Grateful to you.

    I am going through a divorce and it is rough. My soon to be x is making waves with lie after lie. People, including one of my kids has bought into those lies. I am searching on how to not hate and understand what it truly means to forgive and the process of forgiveness. You just NAILED IT. IT makes sense to me for the first time. Thank you

    I’ve followed this methods. The more nice I am to my enemy the more they take advantage of you. It seems to be that standing for my rights in the end I’m still a bad person. I believe this is a fallen world we live in. People loves creating problems to other people.

    • @elissabellajoy
      @elissabellajoy Před 4 lety +2

      You are right, Eugene, sometimes people who have hurt you will not receive the kindness you decide to show them... but you are never wrong to be loving and kind like Jesus. It is a fallen world, and repeating Jesus' prayer "Father, forgive them, cuz they don't know what they are doing" is a great way to stand strong in the face of opposition or ridicule or whatever it may be you are "up against."
      I don't know what you mean by standing for your rights, but maybe you can take a new approach to the things you feel entitled to (especially since in the Bible there is no such thing mentioned, right?), and come from an angle of humility, working to be a blessing to others, not expecting anything in return. That's what I see Jesus doing =) He became as if He had no rights, whatsoever. A slave. I know I'm far from actually getting to that point in my own life in most cases. It is extremely hard, especially in the long run, but it will be worth it in the end.

    I like most of this message. I particularly like:
    - You can’t control what people do but you can control how you respond.
    - Christmas season magnifies how we feel. Good and bad.
    - Bitterness at the root has an impact far greater.
    - Bitterness is difficult to identify because we feel justified.
    - Interesting point that god will forgive and yet some Christians do not. I see this frequently.
    - Praying for someone else may not change them and it will change you. I personally agree sharing prayers with others is meaningful.
    - We justify how we feel or what we did because what we did is/was not as bad as what someone else did.
    Where I find this message fails is that it doesn't address what a person can do between the seed of offense and root of bitterness. It completely overlooks that you can talk with someone and ask/clarify/understand the seed of offense. Many of our problems with humanity today are due to lack of communication and understanding. I am disappointed this message doesn't help reconcile that.

      @overcomer4226 Před 5 lety

      I beg to differ. He clearly gave steps to forgive. And the offense doesn't matter the outcome all offenses is the same. The person get stuck in the past doesn't move on poisons their surroundings and fails to live fully for Christ. I for one thought this was amazing

    You could turn your point about having a father who never gave encouragement never gave praise and never gave love into a 10 part series. I am the product of that . I feel it is the most dangerous thing the most damaging thing that a person can endure. It is tainted the way the I view father God And even at 54 years of age I struggle to believe in God's goodness because my own earthly father was not. Please Chris and pastor Craig if you see this comment do it do A410 part series about how people can overcome parental abuse and parental negligence and move on and be Warriors for Christ The greatest gift then parents can give their children is to believe in them until love them and to know that they are worthy of love and to teach them that the greatest thing they can do for others is till love them.
