Fiskars Hatchet: Axe Throwing worthy?

  • The Finnish Fiskars hatchet! Good enough for axe throwing? I start off with a few specs, first impressions and some info on how some modifications to this hatchet could make it fly better! Removing that huge knob with my dremel tool was quick and easy and made the hatchet release out of the hand very easy and felt like a straight handled throwing axe! The cheeks will take some time to thin down because the hatchet comes with a very thick wedge style cheek and bit design. And you will have to contend with a smaller bit at only 2 3/4 inches. But in the end it’s not a bad hatchet all. The bit holds its retention very well and it’s very well constructed. The handle even though it’s a polymer design can take heavy abuse from hard throws and missed axe throws. Pros and cons are present here with this hatchet however I will say it’s a personal preference using this for axe throwing. With some time and modification you can make it better for axe throwing. But is it worth the time spent? That’s really your call!

They are in my opinion really good for the money. I bought the X25 I believe is the model for splitting that Elm tree I had. It did very well and held its edge just as good as a $200 splitting axe. I really wish they would give a throwing axe a try. Open up and diversify their axe line!

OMG. So this was the first hatchet I bought 3 years ago to throw. Well it obviously didn’t work, so it became a work hatchet. Since then I have been building and throwing Axes and hatchets. So Now I see this video and think, Damn, why didn’t I try that. So I just went in the shop, grabbed that hatchet and sanded that bad boy down and took it out for a throw. Now I have to say, it’s my favorite thrower. Razor Sharped that edge and polished what there is of the bit and I truly am surprised at how much I love this thing. Thank you Bro.

Axe - Another outstanding video, Wes. The throwing you did was awesome! Loved the slow motion shots and the reverse grip throws. I have a couple of Fiskars full-size axes. They are built like a tank. Great axes for splitting Hickory and Honey Locust. Job well done with the modifications on the hatchet as well. They made a big difference for sure. Thanks again for the review. They are appreciated!!

Thanks! I had a good time with this little hatchet! They have a hatchet like this one that’s half polymer and then the handle is hickory. It’s a little more expensive than this one but I would like to try that one out in the future. I’m going to send someone at fiskars an email telling them to try and make a throwing axe. Same design but with a straight handle and a 3 or 3 1/2 bit. I think they could only bring more peoples attention to their axes. They have a great durable axe already! They have the ability to bring a great throwing axe at an affordable price. I would buy more then one honestly

@MidgardAxe @MidgardAxe I have never seen the Fiskars hatchet with the Hickory handle. That sounds interesting! I think that's a brilliant idea you have about contacting Fiskars about your thoughts on the hatchet design. Fiskars could have this new hatchet in all these axe throwing places, too. As you mentioned, the price point would be great. I would get a couple as well! Those Fiskars are tanks! A Fiskars throwing axe like that would be something to see.

Thanks! I’m getting better at camera placement and ideas for capturing throws. Some of those shots I had the camera directly in front of me of the target. Had the axe passing right next to the camera. My wife was outside while I was filming. She says you sure you want to put the camera there 😂. I said yep and I know I should now because you asked me that! Pushing boundaries haha

Had mine for 2 decades now. Indestructible. Thrown it some, but it mostly for camping. I have rolled the edge and nicked a notch in the edge, but a file fixed it right up. Skål 🪓😎

I will say this. In my experience and opinion these axes sharpen really quick almost like a softer steel axe would but they hold their edge really well like a really good tempered axe would. They definitely have a good thing going with their axes. Especially for a polymer style handled axe too. Good examples of a quality axe that’s affordable and does the job. Imagine if they had a go at a throwing axe! Man that would be something that would make a lot of people interested even more.

@@GiveyourselfAraisewhen summer gets here I always get the itch to start modifying axes 😂. Don’t know what it is but I get creative and curious. I just finished up filming the modern Dane axe for axe throwing. Wow this thing is awesome! I can’t wait to drop the video. Not only does it look really good but man this things is crazy for axe throwing. Started out at over 4 lbs and I got it down to 3 lbs and I think 7 ounces. It blew me away how well this thing actually flys for how heavy it is for a single handed throwing axe.
