Could be that you weren't winding on enough nylon line, when there's not enough on the spool it can unwind sometimes, especially if the end of the line isn't jammed into the holding holes, I use my teeth and fold back a bend on the end of the line about half an inch or so to put into the holding holes. There's arrows showing which way to wind on the line, that could be the other reason it's unwinding, if it's wound on in the wrond direction.

It's an automatic feed, it detects that the trimmer line is too short and feeds it out to a set length automatically, so no need for the bumping like bump feeds.
Product is rubbish. Been using genuine stihl 2.4mm trimmer line, been loading product exactly like this and yet all I get is miles of line being spooled out. I'm even using this on a genuine stihl fs130 trimmer. Going to have to go back to the bump head. Total rubbish. And no, I'm incompetent. If I can compound turbo a duramax I can spool a bloody whipper snipper. This auto feed system is just pooh.
@@gavinmasters8904 Same here. I've checked all the videos on CZcams and they all show it this way. If you look at the Stihl instructions, they're not super clear, but may be different. I'm going to try routing the line thru the metal guides and see if that acts as a "clutch" to keep the line from being thrown out.
Ones I've used come with a tool to set what length of nylon you want, but the nylon needs to be trimmed by hand once set up so that both bits are the same length or it throws it off balance or something and doesn't work right. I want a bump feed with a hard metal spool, that doesn't wear out, might get someone to make me one on a lathe.
Actually it's not bad design. I've replaced all my trimmer heads with this one. I hate bump feed heads. But hating one type of the head have nothing with "bad design". Either you love it or hate it, you can't say it's bad design.

I had the same problem as you.
Third time I tried, (after reassembly) I trimmed the two cords to same length & now working fine. Hope that helps

The oldspool before worked just fine, now you can't even buy replacement old ones, stuck with this garbage

Such a piece of shit design done my edges 4 times and gone through 50meters line
Thats the worst piece of shit ever made. As soon as the turning speed goes down the spool releases so much line, that it stops working
