  • This is not a trip I would recommend for anybody outside of those looking to cross something off their bucket list, as it was for us. Downtown Grand Rapids is just not accessible for kayaks at this time, and I really hope that changes someday. Beyond downtown the river widens out, and becomes a more decent float. The river maintains a much better pace from here than it does on the upstream side of downtown. On this day, we were fooled by the local weather forecast into thinking the skies would clear any minute. We decided to brave out the rain though, and we were lucky there was little wind. The river is actually abundant with life through Millennium Park and Johnson Park areas, and there are a couple of cool little streams to explore. Plaster creek smelled awful but looked absolutely beautiful. Heading into the Grandville area, the riverside remained green and lush. There are many parks and bike paths through here. We ended our journey at the Bend Area in Jenison. We had somebody pick us up here, but it did appear that you could park your car there during the day for kayaking trips.
Huge shout out to our buddy ‪@SOLOTONE‬ for making this incredible song!
