Thank you for a wonderful interview. I have a question which was previously answered by an Airstream dealer: if I purchase the Interstate 24 and if tuning it by a third party (hp & torque increase), could this tuned Sprinter be able to tow 10000 pounds (the max weight of the Classis 33FB)?

It would be interesting to compare the Interstate to the similarly-priced Coach House Arriva, built on the same chassis.

Possibly if the Coach House folks see this post, possibly we can arrange for a comparison.

@@TheGadgetGuru Arriva is cleverly packaged allowing for a dry bath and one exterior storage compartment. Very high end feel but does not have the signature look of the Airstream.

The retail price is crazy for an AS class B but you could always count on a nice discount. No more. AS factory, dealers, private sellers are all taking advantage of the C19 crises to charge full price for a production slot or beyond top dollar for a unit in hand. Dealers are completely sold out and near zero used units available FS. If you can wait to buy I would recommend you do so or else be prepared for a frustrating search and when you do find one you’ll pay an inflated price.

You are absolutely correct in that inventory of new and pre-owned models is at an all time low. Like any product, for RV's, prices are based on supply and demand. Considering that many units have sold to first time buyers, there's no doubt that a glut of models could hit the market when a vaccine becomes available and in effect, drive prices lower. Through my research for this series I found out that few if any dealers were inflating prices, they simply were giving smaller discounts than they did when they had an abundance of inventory. This is no different than the car business. We discuss the inventory situation in Part Four of this series.
Also, in terms of the Airstream Interstate and Atlas models being priced higher than other brands, you're correct on that too. But, Airstream does something you don't find with other dealers...they purchase their chassis fully optioned from Mercedes. So, whether it's an air ride suspension or side airbags, they are included. IMHO, I think of all the non-custom Class B models currently on the market, that Airstream uses the highest quality materials on the interior and the fit and finish is more yacht-like than van-like. Just an observation and opinion.

The Gadget Guru Yes agree dealers not gouging per say but in almost every case there little to no discount. Used prices, there were some prices I saw well over blue book. It’s a moot point. There are nearly zero units for sale anywhere in North America. After seeing the used prices and missing out on several used units We broke down and ordered our Interstate GT and will wait the 4 months to get it. We received 3% off only because we have bought 3 new prior AS trailers so a repeat customer. That was one of the last Interstate production slots for a 2020 delivery date. We had to have it for trips already booked end of the year and had no idea the situation with the RV shortage. We had people fighting over our AS trailer we just sold. That was our first inkling of what was going on. Probably could have gotten much more than Kelly BB. Yes people should hold off if they’re able. There will be a glut of RVs in a year or two.
AS Class B’s are top of the class expensive. They do come loaded so that evens out when you get a cheaper brand and start putting options on it. Still 6 months ago you have gotten 20% or 40 grand off pretty easy. That was industry norm. No more of that for now. Used. People that bought 8 months to a year ago and got a 20% discount are selling now for more than they paid. Well over Blue Book. Bad time to buy, great time to be a seller. Knowing what I know now I should flip my 195k 2021 Interstate for 220k when it comes end of November. My add would read” Brand new AS Interstate GT In hand, no wait” Bet it would sell but my wife would be real mad lol. Great video BTW. I’ll watch the others in the series

As a 2021 Interstate 24GT owner, so far the "Five Rivet" service program has been nothing short of bullshit. I've had warranty problems that have dragged on for over a month without a solution in site. I'd never again buy another Airstream Interstate. Ever!
