Nah, I disagree with the message. For one thing, "God rewards people who help others" sounds shallow as hell. You do not help others for rewards. You do it out of compassion.
Second, no one who is less fortunate should be pushed to give to others since they are in a disadvantaged position themself. Only people with excess can afford to give anything. There will always be people who have fewer things than you, but that does not mean harming your own health to assist them is a good thing. The children could not even get intact shoes to protect their feet, and there were holes in their socks. Who said that they would not give to others once they had better things?
I understand appreciation, but you cannot help others to the best of your ability if you are not taken care of yourself. Someone else having less does not mean that you should not want better things, nor does it make you selfish for wanting the _bare minimum_ for comfort, nourishment, etc.
Also, the implication that Christmas presents are more important than groceries. They cannot be serious! What happened to all of that appreciation talk? Was that a test? Why not bring the kids to a soup kitchen or file for government assistance? This is the type of video where a nosy person at school would have filed a CPS report on the dad, and I would have supported them.
Damn religion, and damn the message. They were in a better situation than others, relatively-speaking, so they should have kept improving that situation until all three of them had regular access to food and good-quality clothing. Conserving resources because you do not have many is not selfish. The target of this message should have been well-off individuals.
