  • Big shout out to Fortitude Auto Detailing for tackling the futile task of making my new beater 1st gen Honda Ridgeline be less gross. Actually, Mason made it 100% less gross, even if it still doesn't look pretty.

I don't care what people say about the ridgeline but it is the BEST truck out there. Owned one for almost 15 years, 200K+ miles, gone thru 4 sets of tires, taken it on so many adventures including off-road and I haven't had any issues besides the regular maintenance and still running like new.

I really admire Mason's enthusiasm! Please continue to make more ownership videos of this ridgeline.

    welcome to the team!!
    Important! -
Check the Radiator there is a known problem "SMOD"( strawberry milkshake of death) there are resources about how to prevent this
the ac is usually the fuse is blown or the condenser fan clutch went kaput. Or who knows maybe the cabin filter is just clogged
The timing belt as you mentioned, lasts about 7 years if Honda OEM or Aisin
service is about $1.2k with the water pump and whatnot. Also, I would recommend getting the valves adjusted while you're doing the service
join ROC, Ridgeline Owners Club, forum a fun group of passionate Honda truck people
Hope OC is treating you well! I have a gen2 Ridgeline that just crossed over 180k mostly smooth sailing in SoCal hit me up if you wanna compare trucks (lol) or hang out

Congrats, Charlie - ironically I’ve never been a fan of the Ridgeline since its inception but now, after all these years, I actually appreciate it for what it is, actually looking through the original dealer brochure online along with other older Hondas. Great find, greater price! 🔥 Best wishes to Mason on his business - incredible job given the tall task.

I replaced the timing belt at 100,000 miles for $1800. Love my first gen Ridgeline. Rides/drives like a sedan. Hauls/tows like a truck. Locking trunk is great for gear or grocery runs.

      And tailgating! 😊
Is the $1800 at a dealership, independent, DIYd? Did you also replace the water pump?

It takes me a couple days to do an interior. But when i'm done hondas look new. I go through 12 gallon commercisl wet vacs too often.. Thank goodness for marketplace. He did a great job in that amount of time. Awsome is one of the liquids to use...lol

  • @SerPurple51

It looks like someone literally was living in that thing 😂
Btw to get the seats really cleaned out, you need a quality carpet/upholstery extractor with high lift vacuums to suck all that out.
But it looks really well after the detail job!
Just don't fall down the pit of putting way more money than its worth! Major service interlals should be evaluated only after total assessment of the overall package. Basic things like fluid changes of course won't bankrupt you and make more sense.
Cool buy and looking forward to seeing where this will lead you 😂

Charlie, i researched the timing belt cost, its around 1500 to 2k with valve adjustment, but some folks negotiated it to 1k. If you go to small independent places in the bad areas, pay cash so they dont have to pay credit card fees, it could be done for 1k. In the early 2000s i have 2 civics and it was about 380 to do the timing belt, but that was 20 years ago and its only civics, the v6 is much more work i bet. This is a big factor when buying any car, timing chain is the way to go

nice video. I have a 2006 Honda Ridgeline RT that I bought new and is the same color as yours. It has 93000 miles on it and is no longer my daily driver. I would be interested in knowing how you made out with the fluids and the timing belt. I changed the timing belt and water pump and serpentine belt at 87000 miles because the truck was 12 years old at that time. They looked almost brand new but it was recommended due to the age of the vehicle. I live in SW Ohio. Mine is in much better shape than yours but what I noticed is that the legs on the back seat still retract. That has been a problem with the early Ridgelines and mine failed within the first two years of ownership. My a/c runs cold and everything on the truck still works. Most people hate the styling but when I see a new Ridgeline my reaction is that it does not look like a Ridgeline. I guess the styling has grown on me.

I could have got a gen 2 or a gen 1. Bought the gen 1 cause it absolutely looks more rugged and tough and a little mean actually. The gen 2 looks like a pilot straight up with a truck bed sewn onto it

Looks like an awesome project, and an insane deal for $1500. I’ve always wanted a first gen Ridgeline ever since they first came out.

  • @wl6020
    @wl6020 Před 10 měsíci +4

You should just do the timing belt, i believe its every 7 years or 90k miles, if the previous owner didn't remember, probably its been 7 years already

Man that's Awesome! It probably would be better if you could park it at your house though. Man i'd be cleaning that thing like a mad man before i got into it! No way i'd let myself or something else get into there! :) Seen someone actually take the seats, seatbelts, and flooring out to power wash it and use a drill with a brush to get the seats and seatbelts.

Good find. If your insurance company were to total it, you’d probably get around $3500-$4500, even with the paint and interior rated below average.

U think that interior still looks new? Or is it just me? I mean, that dash design still looks really really good. Compare that to a 2006 Odyssey which I think is kind of ugly.

You got a great deal. I got my ‘06, 140k miles, with only one previous elderly owner who never used it for any work or ANY hauling.
He sold it to me for 8k. Literally in the same condition it was off the lot back in ‘06.
Even the paint has not a single scratch. I was impressed with the quality and so I paid him what he asked.

Great coverage but you ramble too much. This should have been edited down to 10-15 min - not left at 28 min. I have a 2006 RL like this one but with good silverpaint! I bought it with 176k miles two years ago, but for much more. Still like it. When buying an older RL, take it to a Honda dealer and pat about $90 for a full, printed diagnostic. I used a local mechanic to inspect it instead and he misses MANY things... such as no wheel for the spare tire, etc.

It looked like it still needed to be vacuumed. I bet if you smacked that backseat you’d get a huge cloud of dirt and dust. And the windows were dirty.
