    To those who are wondering, this is a black painted aluminum oil pan where the filter media can be replaced upon next oil change. Moving to an aluminum pan can help dissipate heat but also take certain impacts better than the composite plastic of the BMW one. The factory BMW pan does NOT have a replaceable filter. I went the cheaper route and bought a unpainted aluminum pan with replaceable filter, Uro brand from Rock Auto. Used ISTA to monitor oil temp and went through the procedure on fill. Also used Valvoline Multi-Vehicle Transmission fluid as the 8HP transmission is now under it’s approved list. If you have some extra coin but don’t want to pay a dealership, Bryan’s offerings are a solid +1. This pretty much covers virtually all ZF 8-speed transmissions possibly outside of a few used in trucks etc.

    Bryan, I have a F30 and thanks to you I am able to do everything from a simple oil change to diff fluid to gearbox oil change, and the best part is that I have more peace of mind when I do it and not forgetting that I even know how to setup my headlights, which I show to different people, from guys that work at bmw to normal mechanics, love the channel 👍👏👏👏👏🤝

    You might be a little low on fluid, I thought you're supposed to do the last fill till it drains out with the car on?

    Hey Bryan, you call this an "upgrade" but I didn't hear you mention whats the difference from the OEM part? This just seems like an oil-pan replacement guide. Still a solid video with great info!

      on the original BMW pan, the filter is built into the pan. so you must buy an entire pan/filter assembly when it's time to change the trans fluid. it looks like on this new pan, the filter is a separate component. which would allow you to change the filter without having to buy a new pan as well. cheers.

    Quick question as the instructions in ISTA are confusing: on the second fill, do you need to have the engine running while performing the filling or not? Thanks in advance!

    • @kiesdiysandextras
      @kiesdiysandextras  Před rokem +1

      We didn’t and haven’t had any issues. May be different if you were replacing a cooler, etc, as more fluid could be out of the lines

  • @lucasborka3714
    @lucasborka3714 Před rokem +3

    You should start filling and then start the engine and do the second fill immediatley, M1 and M2 is sufficient enough when manually shift. I´ll alwas wait until it has reached 33c since the solenoid would have opened up and released the air. Otherwise good video

    • @mythos000000025
      @mythos000000025 Před rokem +1

      The pan, no. New fluid...maybe but more than likely you need a new filter,,fluid and a trans reflash to increase the internal pressure (also handles more torque that way)

    • @joelsnellman3443
      @joelsnellman3443 Před rokem +1

      Depends on if your transmission has been serviced properly and on time. Genrally it is not advisable to service a transimission at all with an oil-flush/change if you have driven it too much, but if you are still within, say, under 130.000km it should make it feel less sluggish.

    • @zsolthajdu3774
      @zsolthajdu3774 Před rokem

      Depends, if you have older oil in there (60k miles) it might, otherwise i doubt

    • @maxwellkeeling3781
      @maxwellkeeling3781 Před rokem

      By adding in fresh fluid and for the most part completing a transmission re-learn, there is potential that the overall performance and drive ability will improve. The first little drive will be rough as it has to determine optimal fill times of the multiple components, solenoids actuations etc. Soon after I would expect things to improve.

    What makes this an upgrade? Does this have a higher capacity, better cooling potenital, or is it just made of aluminium instead of plastic?

    • @damians8498
      @damians8498 Před rokem

      Just aluminum vs plastic. The alum has better heat dissipation properties. The PPE model gets an extra qt of fluid but unless confirmed, it's tough to say if extra fluid in the same size pan has any positive benefits.
