My boyfriend watch this video and was relieved to know that he isn't the only one who struggles with getting a forge weld correct it is very hard and requires a ton of preparation he is seeing other people do it on CZcams but even some professional Smith's have not done it every single time and even they say it's nearly impossible to get a forge weld correct every single time you attempt it and if they had their share of failures when they started beginning to try it thank you for the video he is wanting to be able to forge weld correctly every time but he says he needs an actual forge not something that he threw together lol

I would enjoy a continuation, or a reprise of the serpent in the sword.

And now imagine doing that with a striker instead of a power hammer, without a gas forge or a welder and using files instead of a grinder, fluxing it with sand :0
Really great project, I really hope I will reach that level of skill some day! Looking forward to the next one!

I will likely release all new videos in HDR. I am also considering re-mastering some of my older videos in HDR. That said, I expect that most people will not be able to watch these videos in HDR, so that might not make all that much sense :-)

What did they use for flux in ancient times?

Is the hdr the reason my screen is flashing brighter on the hammer strikes?

how do you usually ensure your welding doesnt crumble up on itself.... you know, forging on the thinner side, not the flat side... I find it quite difficult to maintain straightness on that "edge"

Maybe you should spend a week with Alec Steele in England. He does modern Damascus steel regularly and may be able to help you eliminate the issues that are hindering you from achieving your goals.

Neils, I've watched several American Blacksmiths. ALL of them apply their borax from an old coffee can with a regular spoon from the kitchen table set. Your borax application may be part of your welding problem as it doesn't seem to be depositing very much borax on the hot surface.

You should get a separate Facebook account for your metalworking. No offence, but I have 0 interest in your opinions about crypto-currency and politics.
