So after basically ordering a backhoe I can now say for all those wondering how he drives while operating the boom. Engcon is a company that makes the modification for the backhoe, they make them for a range of different backhoes. They install custom joysticks which replace JCB's with rollers for steering - They also install a brake and accelerator pedal on the floor. Gears are controlled by another roller installed on their joysticks which also have controls for the tilt/rotate bucket attachments that they offer. They also offer a hydrolic quick couple system so you don't have to leave the cab to switch hydrolic powered attachments. big $$$$ though for this setup...
This is the first I've seen or heard of a backhoe that can be remotely operated from the rear seated position. Total game-changer you would think. Awesome operator too. Makes excellent use of the new technology.
Rear controls has been stantard feature from somewhere -80's at finnish Lännen and swedish Huddig, for example. For Jcb and other imported machines Scandinavian dealers had to built the controls from parts. Throtle, brake, drive and electro hydraulic wheel steering. Without rear controls, markets would be very limited for import backhoes.
A skilled operation can really make it easy on the other guys,,,I do water line repairs and they don't even have to use a rake when I'm finished, but this guy with that articulating bucket is amazing
they dont talk to each other, no silly screaming. A team of skilled workers knowing exactly what they are doing. Result of working together as a team for a long time. Nice to see this.
This guy is a true master. I have never seen a backhoe used in this way. I didn't know the backhoe could be used while the machine was moving, only ever seen them used with the rear stilts down and the front loader bucket lifting up the wheels. Is this unique to the 4CX?
I tried a 4CX in Sweden for a short while during one day about 10 years ago, that had aftermarket modifications by Engcon (also Engcon controls), also had a Engcon tiltrotator, and I think it was Engcon that "fixed" it so it could do that. JCB might offer that natively now though.
thats really a thing ive been laughing about to you in UK. We have literally every machine equipped with that tilttotator and rear side driving here in Funland
I was never a fan of the JCB backhoes, but this operator is doing a very good job. And the compactor he is using is awesome. I hated the old Whacker type compactors. Job well done, and the RIGHT way!
The guy is a master operator,he knows his machine, the crew has his back, this crew works as one, I like how the operator spreads the material in the trench he is also compacting the material. Good job. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
Prime example of a good worker on the tools / working the job on the ground before he progresses to being a machine driver. Too many people go on training courses and call themselves machine operators !!! Few and far between good ops like this one . Working with a good well disciplined crew helps aswell .
Very skilled JCB operator, and always aware `foot soldiers`. This is rare on jobsite`s that I have seen in my area. But then again,...those guys in the trench would probably be `written up` for numerous safety violations; ears, eyes, head protection to name a few. Not to mention too, the Supervisor will have to share a greater portion of blame . Notwithstanding all of this,..the job is progressing smoothly.( no pun intended!)
I have a feeling that a lot of people commenting are not real (employed) operators, they're are likely weekend warrior operators, and don't understand much about how this stuff is suppose to be done. These guys are all doing great work, and that operator is good!
id like to see everyone complaining about his awareness try and do his job. if it was that easy you try. he obviously knows wher the other work colleges are and the colleges know es doing a good job. shut your moaning and look at the way he make the machine part of the mind. he knows what hes doing. we need more operators like him.
He backfilled it with soft sand first before putting in the mixed rubble and sand. Good practice like this ensures that the pipe is never 'point' loaded by a sharp rock/stone. That pipe run will never fail due to stress or punctures. But just make sure the cement lorry boys don't wash down their chutes after a delivery near the drains.
he must have custom drive controls in this unit. I don't think you can drive a cx4 while sitting in the excavator position. Correct my if I'm wrong about that. Bloody awesome opperatior in any case.
Operator is very competent, the drainage is awful though, the pipes are not straight, the levels are all over the shop and no gravel under the pipes either, poor job, great machine operator.
Does this machine have some type of switch to control movement from the sticks? Never saw the operator turn for the steering wheel once. Also must have a high pressure in the back tyres to have extended boom out all the way with engcon on and full bucket.
Lol ya but that takes the fun out of it someone will be running a nice service finder there someday and will be really hoping their insurance is up to date
No need and no regulations about having warning tapes on sewer pipes, at least not in Sweden and it might be the same rules in Denmark (where they say that this is filmed).
Every one uses the tape wrong. Even the los angeles inspectors. In the tape it says to use it between 12" to 24" from.the surface so it can be traced no need for tracer wire. But they all put it like 2 feet from the pipe.
Hello can you tell me how this guy can drive this backhoe without turning to steering side? I have 4cx froam 2018 with easy control advanced and i cant do this like him. Sorry for my english.

It all depends wether you have capable workers or working individuals. If you have capable workers you can be sure that nobdy will do anything wrong like running around the operating area of the machine. If it is a rule everybody knows you can depend on it and work more confident focusing only on the job. And somebody said it could have been done with the front shovel... well no. If you drop a big load on the plastic pipes they may break and you have to get it all out again. Not to say it would spread unevenly and the surface would later drop way more after it settles. Some parts may have looked like it was not really nescessary but on the other hand having a worker enjoying his work is the best motivation to get things done. Not to mention that he will be able to control the machine like his own limb. And that is a skill crutial to any working site.

Weird comments from people who probably never operated a machine ??!! What is that type of bucket which rotates and has grabber jaws? Never saw one in the states... You can't just push all the fill into the trench at once..I have a JCB 214 site master extend a how plus forks and clam bucket. Love this machine. שלום
It has Engcon tiltrotator with grapple and S45 (i think) type quick coupler. Tiltrotator can be attached to machine by direct fit or under various types of quick couplers, so it is easy to take away for heavy works.

Since no one leaving a comment knows anything about construction, allow me to explain what's going on to the women and construction wana bees that are criticizing this highly talented operator. He is filling the trench in lifts and smoothing it out for the plate compactor in order to properly compact the trench back. Impossible to do with the loader end. You don't just shove all the dirt back in the trench all at once unless you're an idiot who dosent know what you're doing. And the tape goes after there is compacted cover over the pipe, not right on the pipe, that would defeat the purpose of the tape. These guys are doing everything right. BTW, no hard hats? They aren't wearing seat belts either, because neither is needed in this situation.
