Hard to believe that the director of this also directed the family film A Christmas Story. This is one of the earliest slasher movies.
The director also did the popular Porky's sex comedies which I'm sure J would enjoy.
Peter came to the basement because he’d heard a bunch of screaming coming from there & the killer knew about the conversation between the two of them because he was in the house, listening to them talk about her wanting to get an abortion.
6:23 actually yeah! Halloween exists because of this movie. You see, John Carpenter LOVES this movie, and once he asked director Bob Clarke if he’d do a sequel. Mr. Clarke replied that if he did, he’d make it around Billy (the killer) actually having being caught, but escaping the mental asylum and returning to the sorority in Halloween, which, in Bob Clarke’s own words would be named simply “Halloween”.

@@marquisdesade3025 I’ve never heard this. Obviously Carpenter was inspired by Black Christmas, but it wasn’t his idea in the first place, was it? It was Yablans’ idea and Akkad’s money. Never have I heard that Clark came up with a “slasher-on-Halloween” concept

Excellent choice! Still holds up today. I love the colors and tone of this movie. I love a drunk, Lois Lane original, Amityville, horror homeowner, Margot Kidder!
I always liked the fact that this movie has not just one, but TWO alcoholic characters. Most TV shows or movies just have one alcoholic character at a time.
One of the few films that ALWAYS manages to unsettle me to the core..
Soooo excited!! Everyone is reacting to this movie this Christmas, but I’m most excited for this watch 😌
This movie is seriously one of the best slashers there is. Legitimately unsettling and it grandfathered in a lot of the same tropes and clichés that would be utilized in later entries of the genre. The fact that it influenced a film as iconic as John Carpenter's Halloween is quite the astonishing testament to how effective it was.
This is not a whodunnit that can be solved or have an, aha, so you’re the one, moment. The killer is not amongst the actors that are full seen on screen. Billy is an outside force. Billy, like Life, is what happens to you when you’re busy making other plans.

This and the 1st remake are Canadian cinema hall of famers.
Only series I can think of with more of a following is Prom Night (specifically Prom Night 2: Hello Mary Lou) or possibly The Gate.
The Ginger Snaps trilogy is probably the best Canadian horror movie series.

Black Christmas was Halloween before Halloween was Halloween.
Halloween was a smash hit, so many people believe it was the first real slasher but that's wrong. It's just that Black Christmas wasn't a hit and is/was unknown to most people.
Love the content. Hopefully, you come across the movie "when a stranger calls" one day since we're going back to the old school movies!
I'm glad you watched the original. They make so many dumb remakes that many reactors just find the first movie with the right title and end up watching some piece of shit, like Black Christmas 2019.
the remakes of this movie are so much worse than most other remakes. but unlike most people i actually hate the 2006 one the most. the 2019 is dumb as rocks but it at least tried to have a message, whether I thought it was ridiculous or not. it had a point and the people who made it, made it for a reason. It’s really bad and the twist was idiotic, and it hammers you over the head with the point, but it does have a point.
the 2006 is literally just jumbled up, nonsensical gore and boring hateable characters. and literally nothing that happens matters or has some kind of purpose. it’s just a shitty stupid movie and every second that it’s on I’m actively getting pissed off because the original is so subtle and creepy and that one is just titties and gore.
@@robertyeah2259 I get what you mean about the creators giving a shit about the message they're conveying, but I'm too cynical to think earnestness matters. I found the preaching of BC2019 insufferable. Give me titties and gore any day. It's like comparing the average attempt at modern art versus a Garfield comic strip.

Watched A Christmas Story with my kid today for the first time this year. Every time I watch A Christmas Story I always try to follow it up later on with Black Christmas as a palette cleanser, so seeing that this went up today was an absolute synergistic delight. They seem to show the face of the killer right at 25:49 which looks like Peter. Freeze that frame. I must say however, that to me the voice seems to alternate from a crazy man and then sometimes like a crazy woman. (Just guessing.)

The original is obviously way better but the 2006 remake isn't bad.

The original is way better
that remake gave me several terminal illnesses. all i can say about it is that the lighting was pretty and the girls were pretty. but i hated everyone and the gore was just annoying. i hated every second of it 😂 im always surprised it’s somewhat liked i feel like the 2019 one softened people’s perspective on it. but i don’t care i think both remakes are just disgraceful movies period, and they just happen to dump all over an old good movie too 😂
