“MASSIVE Issue” | JK Rowling Slams Labour’s Anneliese Dodds For ‘Woman’ Definition In Past

  • JK Rowling has described as “nonsensical” past comments made by Anneliese Dodds on gender as the Labour MP was announced as women and equalities minister.
    The Harry Potter author has previously accused Labour of having “abandoned” her and others campaigning for women’s rights.
    Ms Rowling has become known as a fierce advocate for the rights of biological women after criticising Scottish Government proposals to introduce self-identification for transgender people.
    Assistant editor at The Critic Jo Bartosch joins Talk’s Julia Hartley-Brewer to discuss this further.

      How is this protecting women. It just contributes to a pointless divisiveness. People with gender dysphoria should be treated with respect others who want to dress up in women's clothes should just shut up and let the rest of society get on with their own lives AND keep out of women's safe places.

      I think the issue is that, for too long, many people have been (conveniently) convinced that voting makes no difference. That may well be true when we look at the main two parties.
      Labour only won because many people did not bother to vote, particularly from the rightwing.
      Next time, we need to promote the idea that voting should be done regardless. It only takes a few minutes and we will never know if it is truly a waste of our time unless as many of us get out there to try as possible.
      Disenfranchisement has allowed Labour power for the next five years. We cannot afford for them to have five more after that.

    1 question why does the number of men transitioning far out way the number of women transitioning Surely it should be roughly equal .

    • @hmsealey3243
      @hmsealey3243 Před 26 dny +16

      There are different reasons for transitioning. The two largest demographics are middle aged men for whom it's a sexual fetish, and young, confused girls trying to escape the discomfort of their growing female bodies. Utterly different reasons. In little children, nine times out of ten its the parent or a caregiver who has some weird, rigid idea of gender, so a little boy who wants to play with Barbie dolls must be a girl, not a little boy who likes Barbie. It isn't a sexual thing at such a young age so there's absolutely nothing a 5 year old girl can do or wear that a 5 year old boy can't.
      Very few middle aged women suddenly decide to become men, and a huge proportion of trans identified men are from this category. For them it is almost entirely sexual.

    • @susiegluxman9041
      @susiegluxman9041 Před 26 dny

      Actually the statistics now show that the majority of people identifying as "trans" are female, girls and young women, followed closely by middle aged men. The reason for the perception that it is mostly men transitioning is because they are the only ones demanding access to spaces where they don't belong, and uniquely able to benefit from male physiology in sports etc. Ask yourself why you hear of no cases of women demanding and receiving access to men's prisons, etc? The entire thing is misogynistic and inherently homophobic and incredibly regressive. It's driven by the p0rn1fied culture we find ourselves in, represented perfectly by the aforementioned statistics, the two groups wishing to opt out of objectification(young women/girls) and the males who wish to opt in to it.

    instead of asking 'what is a woman' ask: what are the consequences of changing the definition of woman from 'adult human female' to 'anyone who says they are'? And who benefits from those consequences vs. who loses? The answer is very clear: the consequences are dire, and only women suffer - while transidentifying males and predatory men benefit. So: the question is not whether transwomen are women, the question is: should we change the definition of woman - and the answer is NO. Transpeople can have protections without a semantic trick that harms women and girls across all areas of their lives.

    I have no problem with those who are attracted to their own sex or wish to live as a member of the opposite sex. This is their choice and they should accept the restrictions, particularly on safe spaces for women!

    I can go back to the 50s living in a rural area when a local couple of females lived as man and wife. Local people just accepted them and walking by we often stopped to pass the time of day with them. One dressed very much as a man while the other was very feminine. I'm sure there was a little banter in the pub but in reality they were accepted and had the support of the community.

    I have always viewed Anneliese Dodds as a strange one! I am sure she is a well-meaning, nice lady, but to me, she is a bit weird. (She could also do something about her hair - jeez!)
    Her appointment is akin to appointing Dr. Josef Mengele as Minister for Health & Social Care!
    This is the lunacy which pervades our political class, who should really be the "sensible ones"!

    X team good, Y team bad? So, 1) There is likely nothing that will improve peoples lives in the next five years and new additive taxes will be collected, Joy! 2) We know the last government also did not improve peoples lives and was horrible, Joy! Knowing 1) & 2) you not only would not consider a new approach you are also so certain of this that you rally against a new approach. It would be refreshing to actually hear your thoughts on what you think is wrong with this new approach and why you think the current government approach is right? (i.e. Mass immigration is good because it generates £xM is revenue -please cite-, reduces crime -please cite-, eases the burden on housing, heath and welfare -please cite-, unifies the country as a whole whilst enriching local communities - please cite- and helps reduce carbon emissions -please cite. Otherwise all I understood from your post was X team good, Y team bad.
