USA dart player here, what a great Final I think Peter would have won it sooner than he did. I watched the hole match live stream. I'm going to keep this as clean as I can, but the jakeoff that was whistling when Peter was shooting his out in the 7th, 8th & 9th sets needed his whistler removed. I was pissed and if I would had been there I sure would have let him know how I felt. The ref should have called that to order.
5-4 (2-0) down... and came back like that! Top notch under pressure. Smith just cannot get over the hump.

It's wasted talent if you can't deliver when you really need to. With the right mindset he could be one of the greatest. But I fear he will never break the barrier tbh.

As a Scot I was rooting for Peter but I do hope Smith breaks his duck eventually. Class player. He just came up against a champion who has perfected the art of diggin it out under pressure.

I wanted Smith to win, he was brilliant all throughout this tournament, but you have hand it to Wright, he was down 4-5 (0-2) and played his best darts from that point on.
Like you, I wanted Smith to win but Wright is a decent person and a worthy champion. I feel that Smith just achieving one finish of over a ton (if that stat is right) is significant, he wasn't stealing legs often enough.That spell of losing eight legs successively was partly down to Wright but also partly down to Smith not quite being consistent enough, his average wasn't too bad during it but the distribution of scores was too extreme or untimely in the legs. I really hope he wins it one day. The prize money in the tournament is incredible, especially when you consider how poor darts prize money was many years ago.

As sad as most of us will be for Michael Smith; I think itâs important to remember how far Peter Wright has come; he was known for so many years as a âbottlerâ or âchokerâ, could never get over the hump and despite having the UK Open, once he finally beat MVG in that final two years ago, after losing to him so many times, in all those major finals, you can only be amazed at what heâs gone on to win now. Itâs brilliant for Snakebite but also to think once Michael gets over the mental hurdle like Wright did; he can do similar feats in darts. A fantastic final overall and congratulations to them both for giving us that entertainment!
^^^^^Exactly. I remember Peter looking over at Michael after losing to him and saying, "I'm the best runner up in darts" or something like that. Now he's just the best in darts at the moment.

I'll say, even tho he lost, this tournament really improved my opinion of Michael Smith. He never looked resigned to his fate in the same way he always used to. Just got beat by a man who ramped up the jets when he needed to. Congrats Peter! đ€
It's very important that he doesn't let his head drop after this and uses the momentum to win a big TV tournament, I honestly think once he's won something 'big' it will make life a lot easier for him.

@@youfreaker Losing 9 of the following 10 legs is bottling. C'mon Smith suddenly couldn't score anymore. It was obvious, and he simply choked.
I know there's been a lot of criticism in the past of Smith bottling it but those last 2 sets he averaged well over 100 and simply got outplayed for 2 sets. Definitely didn't bottle it today and kept his form all the way so you have to applaud him for that đ well done Wright for finding the extra in the end to win
Yeah he didn't bottle it, bottling it would be if he'd gone 6-4 up and had match darts but blown it. As it stands, he did all he could but just got beaten by the better player. It's very hard to argue Wright didn't deserve it after that run he went on when he was 5-4 and 2-0 down.
Wrights last 2 sets were 113 and 114 av. Not much to do about haha.
He didnât bottle it, but even if he had - a lot of great champions in a lot of different sports were known as bottlers at one stage or another. Roger Federer comes to mindâŠeveryone was calling him a choker in 2001/2002 - then he broke through in 2003 and became unbeatable. Smith has plenty of time left and will be a multi world champion.
We wonât find out if heâd of bottled it as he didnât get 6 sets, his own final set for the title would of shown if he was gonna bottle it, he played well just Wright knows how to turn on at crucial times. Experience got him there. Smith had a great tournament.

Yep that tenth set really kicked Smith in the balls. He never recovered but when a champion is at his height then nothing you can do. Peter was imperious.
Unlike many of his other losses, canât see this one scarring Smith, he didnât throw it away, Wright just applied the turbo at the perfect moment. Keep playing like that and Smith will be winning TV titles this yearâŠ

Both fantastic darts playerâs, Wright kept his cool and won through in the end. They both played great darts.

Amazing matches throuout and the final didnt disapoint. 3 Finals in 2 months, the form guide was spot on.... best of luck to Wright, and Smith will have more chances for sure, a very solid player.
Smith didn't bottle it, Wright just hit an insane patch of form JUST at the right time when he was 5-4 down in sets and 2-0 down in set 10. From then on he was exceptional, if Michael could have won set 10 and taken his lead to 6-4 it's a totally different game. Key thing now is he doesn't let his head drop and he uses this to push on and win a big tv tournament, I think once he wins one it will open the floodgates for him.

Amazing focus that Wright found at the literally perfect time.
Averaging 112 and 113 ish per set to finish it off. Smith trying to keep up at 104/5. But that's what Wright is capable of. Go back to the days when MVG was destroying everybody, PL, Wright trying to stay up there with the nearly 120 averages...hes's got it in him and he pulled it out here.

The organisers really need to do something about the crowd - itâs supposed to be a World Championships, not the English Championships! The level of booing is off-putting, especially for families watching at home

amazing match. congrats to PW for his second title. i feel for Michael as he played superb and at 5-4 up was looking likely. top class comeback and great back and forth until the final set when smith looked beaten. crowd was absolutely atrocious again. its embarrassing a former world champion gets booed at all and this booing missed darts for 9 dart attempts is just ridiculous. worst crowd i've ever seen all tourney long. the dickheads booing steve beaton against sherrock should be banned for life. anyways, i turned the sound off and enjoyed a wonderful game. high quality tournament all the way through. smith must break through one of these years and wright is just brilliant. i will say its a travesty that MVG got sent home but wright fully deserves this title.

I don't understand the British concept of 'deserves.' You know who deserves a title? The man who put in the hard work and won it. I really like Michael Smith> But what Peter did was just on another level for those last 3 sets. Smith can stay on the up or give up, it's up to him. He's a great player and I wish him well.

Smith was great till 5-4, then he suffered the shock of 10th set and never recovered ... as unfortunately always did in his whole career
...but he's still young and a lot of time to get better player
Peter switched between two sets of darts 5 times during that match.
It was clear to me that the ones he had used during the Matchplay were clearly the ones working better but he kept switching and insisting in using the other ones.
Thank God he made the right decision in the end. That allowed him to win 9 out of the last 10 legs.
Maybe it was all for show, as he sometimes says. LOL
That seals the deal. I am no longer a Smith fan. Iâve been a fan since 1982 and a season ticket holder since 1996. I officially will not be renewing my plan next season nor will I watch on tv ever again. Smith is officially the worst player in history.

Wright seemed to be unbeatable during this tournament. He can achieve super level under pressure and when opponents are starting to make mistakes in later phases of the match, he starts playing his best darts. Amazing player. To tell you the truth I had a hope that Rydz will win it. He played so fantastic darts during this tournament. So fast and accurate. He just lost it during the final phases of the match with Wright. I think if he won with Wright he would be the world champion now. The real black horse of this tournament
oh what a tournament, nice to see a different final and a great one as well. shame smith couldnt take 3rd ranking off MVG. But defo one to watch.
