  • Monsoon season ramped up big time in Southern Nevada on Friday, drenching the Las Vegas Valley with rain. Several major roads were completely covered with water, stranding drivers in their cars to await help. The Channel 13 team reports from across the valley.

I live in Vegas. The first part of this video shows the east part of Vegas. The east side is old Vegas and it's sewers and and run off channels are old and almost non exsisant.
Vegas is constantly adding bigger sewer pipes.
The earth in Vegas is not dirt. Its tight and compacted so too much water will just pool up on top of it. When it rains to much and to fast in Vegas we really get flooding.

Modern cars have a lot of electronic sensors and connectors all going to the computer. The connecters are sealed fairly well, but if water gets in them, it can stall the car. Also, there is a vent on automatic transmissions, and if water gets in the transmission it can be destroyed. Water can be splashed up under the hood also, and short things out. A good rule of thumb is never drive in water that can reach the frame of the car, and drive slowly so water doesn't splash under the hood.

Sure, go ahead, get AAA, and you'll wait for 6-10 hours or more in situations like that. They'll prioritize cash paying customers during severe weather situations. If you wanna avoid "rip off" tow operators, then don't be a shit for brains and drive through flood waters.

Desert doing what it does when torrential rains hit, flash flooding, especially along the natural washes. I bet if you want back 100 years and looked at land surveys, many of the flood areas where washes and or natural flood zones. It also doesn't help when man unknowingly creates washes/flood zones when they build without consideration to the occasional heavy rain.

The streets are flooding due to no storm drains or inadequate drainage systems are the reason that is going on if the city put in storm drains flowing to a river or to a storm ponds the streets would stay clear when it rains as long as it's free from trash and other things that can block the water flow. It's really simple to do.
